Ghost With Chains is their third official full-length (not including some EPs and a killer split) and it’s as beautifully moon-burnt and highway-swept as anything they’ve done. Recorded in August of ’09 at Nicollet Park, the LP’s seven songs swerve from spectral Sturgis road-burners (“Hexagram,” “Bell Of The Barrier”) to lower-keyed percussion meditationals (“Busted Realm,” “Ghost With Chains”), spiced with the occasional earth-toned ghost drone piece or floating flower acoustic mantra-ballad. The magic is, it all works. The D.O.T.S. gang co-run a tape label, Never Ender, and each helm their own exile-consciousness solo project (Camden, Elven Thief, Wavepool), so roots run deep. Unbreak the Chains and scope ‘em on tour next time they pass through yr local badlands. Black vinyl LPs in jackets with artwork by Oakley Tapioca, plus a full-color pro-printed insert. Edition of 490.

These guys are fantastic. I am pretty friendly with them; great guys with great taste. They keep getting better all the time.

The new Gay Beast LP on Skin Graft is excellent as well.

Savage Clone 02.09.2011 01:15 PM

Yeah, it's out. Took a bunch to Chicago Independent for wider distribution a couple of weeks ago. I think Burning World has them for sale in Europe as well. You can get it online at the mutant music site or on discogs from me or Burning World.
PM me for details on how to get one of the very last copies (I'm talking like two copies) of the first one.
Shipping costs might equal out the slightly higher price from Burning World vs. buying from us here in the USA.

atsonicpark 02.09.2011 07:48 PM

new krallice soon
new necrophagist soon

krastian 02.10.2011 09:10 PM

Krallice are pretty much my favorite band making music today.

noisereductions 02.11.2011 10:08 AM

I havent' heard any good 2011 albums yet.

Though I'm waiting for physical CD for SYR9.

toxic johnny 02.12.2011 07:37 AM

So far I'm enjoying the new Sic Alp's...

Stu and Sav Clone *I'm going to check out Daughters Of The Sun*

batreleaser 02.15.2011 09:04 AM

i think it's 2010, but the new Peaking Lights lp "936" definitely belongs in this thread...

pad_023 02.15.2011 10:09 AM

Yuck's album is pretty great

It kind of draws on a lot of sounds from the 90's. Quite heavily influence by bands such as Pavement and Dinosaur JR. It's not particularly new buts it is a nice record to listen to.

such a great album its not true...took a few listens to but its a peach.

Pelle 02.16.2011 11:43 AM

Rush - clockwork angels

It's out in May, I think ?

Savage Clone 02.16.2011 03:26 PM

Oh yes. Who could resist the lure of a latter-day Rush LP with a "Steampunk" concept?

I think it's fair to say that 'me' would be an accurate answer to that question. Although I don't mind rush, I'm having none of this steampunk bollocks.

Savage Clone 02.16.2011 03:51 PM

I wonder if the LP is shaped like a gear of some kind.

Yeah it really is great. I was meant to see them tonight but unfortunately a fire in the abandoned noodle bar next door. Pretty annoying considering I have missed them twice before due to illness.

atsonicpark 02.22.2011 01:49 PM

new NEIGHBOR album

http://neighbor.bandcamp.com/

they posted it for free

great band, sometimes they're like HOT WATER MUISIC with the background vocals and stuff, TODDLE because of the catchy guitar lines.. but they have a distinct lite-shoegaze sound. So it's tough as hell but pretty. Great stuff.

loubarret 02.22.2011 02:07 PM

Sic alps is great, destroyer is great, mostly waiting for the new cold cave

atsonicpark 02.22.2011 02:09 PM

gorguts and obscura and krallice and necrophagist are my most anticipated albums definitely

loubarret 02.22.2011 02:10 PM

Ah yeah kralice is pretty high up also.

atsonicpark 02.22.2011 02:13 PM

...

uh, anyway, just as i expected, the new LONGMONT POTION CASTLE is awesome.

New Kurt vile was.. alright. New Deerhoof, I dunno, I don't think I was in the right mood for it. New Tim Hecker was cool. New Six Organs very soon.

loubarret 02.22.2011 02:25 PM

and two albums of that project with his girl/wife

jimbrim 02.22.2011 06:22 PM

I haven't really heard much this year besides SYR9, which I thought was pretty good.

I'm excited to hear stuff out of John Elliott (from Emeralds) new Spectrum Spools imprint, I'm sure it will deliver some quality sounds.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.......

TheDom 02.22.2011 10:25 PM

tim hecker & kurt vile got the goods so far. deerhoof vs. evil was a total let down...

& syr 9 but that kind of goes without saying...

startur 02.22.2011 10:46 PM

i like nicholas jaar - space is only noise

atsonicpark 02.22.2011 10:52 PM

^ Strange, I listened to that for the first time ever today. And I FUCKING loved it.

Bal 02.23.2011 09:01 AM

Kurt Vile "smoke Ring For My Halo" Album Of The Year

batreleaser 02.23.2011 11:04 AM

chain & the gang-down with liberty rules

gentleman jesse-introducing rules

ive heard some rap mixtapes that i really like, from the bricksquad crew.

batreleaser 02.23.2011 11:05 AM

still havent heard six organs or kurt vile.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 02.23.2011 11:08 AM

I don't know what confuses me more, the obscurity of some of these bands or that fact that everyone but me seems to totally be aware of it all. SYG music tastes is like a foreign language

Derek 02.23.2011 12:14 PM

A lot of people's tastes here are pretty standard for a forum.

thats all I've bought this year as well - I do need to pick up the Metal Mountains lp, but I was waiting for the CD so I don't have to flip it over.

toxic johnny 02.27.2011 05:24 PM

I'm loving the new Organ's platter.

Stripped down acoustic/drone heaven.

Also Stu and Sav C thanks for the Daughters Of The Sun tip off...

atsonicpark 02.27.2011 07:10 PM
