|
fursaxa has a new album?
i'm so not informed this year... |
yeah, its nice
|
I don't know about the 30 bests, but the Mahjongg and Fuck Buttons albums are both my #1 so far.
|
i haven't heard 30 albums this year
|
I've only got one album of this year, as I do most years that the Fall have a record out. One day I'll get round to liking this new-fangled music again...
|
Sun Kil Moon - April
Have A Nice Life - Deathconsciousness Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia Kayo Dot - Blue Lambency Downward {{{ Sunset }}} - Bright Blue Dream Just some albums I've enjoyed so far this year. |
Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks - Real Emotional Trash
Blood Red Shoes - Box Of Secrets Holy Fuck - L.P. Thurston Moore - Sensitive/Lethal Flight Of The Conchords - Flight Of The Conchords Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into These New Puritans - Beat Pyramid Times New Viking - Rip It Off Feeder - Silent Cry Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend Mission Of Burma - Signals, Calls, And Marches Various Artists - Juno O.S.T I don't know how many that is... it's not 30 but, meh. |
i don't think i even listened to 5 releases this year.
|
Haha. I'll wait.
|
even further down is the first half of crystal castles, be your own pet and foals... highly disappointing albums..... sidenote.. by the next 24 hours hopefully, the list will have a new entry at number 1... it being stereolab! btw.. holy fuck was mid 2007..... |
Just out of curiosity, how many of you own these 30 records in physical format, and how many of you are talking about things you've downloaded mixed with records [/CDs/ tapes] you physically own?
The reason I ask is that new releases tend to retain around the £15 mark, and 30x15 isn't a massive amount of money, but it's still an amount of money. |
its not a massive amount of money if you have it!!!!!
for the record.. i own probably 75% of the ones listed above |
Yeah, I'm frankly amazed that there are 30 albums released this year that are worth owning, let alone ranking in a top 30.
|
this year is probably better than last year for new releases and to be honest last year was great.
|

Yeah, I mean, I could afford to own more than that. And I'm not being Dave Pious 'records are real music'. I just find with new records that I'm pissed off for paying the inflated 'new' price and I fucking hate having shit records sat about and I don't like a lot of new music (what a prick, eh?). |
hey glice.. 100% agree with you. im one of the lucky ones tho, my mate manages a record shop so if i buy and destest (and i have to detest a record before i return it) he will take it back in no questions asked....
downloading is just a modern day double tape deck recorder... |
I don't want to make a top 30 but I loved new neptune, zs, experimental dental school, thank you, farmers market, boris, daemian frost, secret chiefs 3, the fall, autechre, kayo dot, polysics... the new stereolab's out?!?!
So far, a good year for muzak. |
Oh, also, the new scissor shock album should be done very very soon, I'll get that to whoever wants it. should be on many people's top 30 lists. no kidding, it's the best thing we've ever done!
|

yes, plus buying all the records that didn't make it in to the top 30, plus buying records that didn't come out this year |
What, are you saying that people download music instead of buying it? WHAT THE FUCK!
|
Top thirty? Er, I'd struggle enough to do a top ten.
I've liked all of these albums so far this year: New Portishead New Bar Kokhba New Fall New Sparks New M83 After that, there's about twenty-some odd albums I've heard that I haven't particularly cared for. It's only June, though. |
i forgot sensitive/lethal, the only solo thurston album ive ever really gotten into.
|
didn't really dig new m83...
|
SCISSOR SHOCK - "SYNONYM FOR THE WORD DECAY" I uploaded it here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/3jppyp 12 songs, 40:40, about 36mb. going to be released on nyc-based laser seizure records sometime this year in an edition of 50. I sent it to a few people in PM's who I thought might really want it but I fiugred I'd post it here for other people who wanted it. Enjoy.. hope you all like music! |

no neither did i, its total pants... french pants at that..... there is a band that started great and turned shite with every release.... musical erosion! stereolab aint out til august but................................ |
It's even more annoying when people who don't buy all these records have the fucking cheek of pushing their shit, redundant, risible opinions about.
|
Autechre's latest was pretty trendy.
|
i never really much liked m83. certainly not a bad band just not my thing really.
|
I'll say that the new M83 is a bit cheesy-sounding, which I can see putting off a lot of people. I personally can dig it. It's certainly not great or anything and it probably won't stay in my top five (or even top ten, maybe) when the year is done, but it's a good New Order/MBV-ish throwback that I'm enjoying as of this point.
|
The new Off Minor is good.
|
So many people were trying to download the first link that it kept giving errors, and my friend in bubblegum octopus bitched about it being a rar so here's the .zip version: http://www.sendspace.com/file/nlur3a
if you can't figure out if it's worth the download, there's two new songs on myspace... also, whoever downloads it, if you would please give me some comments, good or bad, so i can fill out the quotes thing on the myspace. okay, back to the top 30 thread! |
See my sig

thanks,, the first download DID suck, im listening to this on my ipod now. its definitley scissor shock's most varied release. i can hear a lot of your influences in this one, omoide hatoba, fahey (fahey ghost), the residents, derek bailey, some autechre on the more electronic tracks. this is good shit. ill have to listen to it more before i decide how it matches up with your other releases though. p.s. the "folk" tracks definitley work, cheers |
thanks man, glad you like... the next release is definitely going to be more folky but with you know.. weird shit I guess.. haha.
|
I'll download tomorrow and tell you what I think Adam.
|
by the way, i think my favorite album of the year so far is suishou no fune's prayer for chibi, and that's incredibly odd because i seldom have absolute favorites in my life.
but yeah, the best most powerful album of the year to this date. |
^I'm getting that if only for the cover.
