disappointing bands
Talking about your worst disillusions.
Exemple : Sometimes, a friend told you about a new band, sayin' "it's cool you should give it a try"... You listen to 2 or 3 songs on the radio, the net... it's pretty good, and you decide to buy the whole album. and then, you discover it's shit. Fuck... Or bands who have done a good first album and then released a crapy 2nd album. Mine : Silversun Pickups. the whole album is boring. |
I dunno, too many to name. Most bands.
|
a name, Adam, I want you to give me a name. Now !!!
|
why the obsession with listing things on the board?
last one i thought "ehh, they are not that great" was holy fuck i guess. not bad but certianly not amazing. |
I don't want to list them, just talk about your bad experiments.
|
if you listen to enough new music (at least to you, not chronological), then you're bound to find bands you don't like.
speaking of which, the new weezer album isn't too bad, not as bad as i thought it could be. |
I always liked weezer. i thought the green album and the one right after that were alright, not great or anything but certainly not as awful as most people said. never bothered with make believe though.
|
pinkerton was wonderful! make believe sucked. come on, rivers, show us your emo side!
|
say it aint so is still a beautiful track. thats the only weezer song i ever listen to still.
|
Funny! I find most Weezer disappointing.
|
i love the blue album and pinkerton so much you have no idea.
the green album was like half good, "o girlfriend" has to be rivers' most underrated song; maladroit was weird and never gave it a chance and the last one..."beverly hills" is one of their worse songs (if not their worst song period) and the one with the video of the chick singing instead of rivers is pretty awful too so i'm really not interested in listening to that one. but the new one is tuneful and funny, no blue album or pinkerton, but better than their last couple. |
Make Believe was awful, but all their other albums are great. Even Maladroit.

A few recent disappointments...
Joanna Newsom Animal Collective Vampire Weekend Deerhoof I realize that these acts are popular with some of the members of this board. I am NOT listing them to be controversial or anything silly like that. I actually checked them out because of mentions/praise on this board. After downloading a couple of albums, I honestly did not find anything to like about any of them. Vampire Weekend are dull, Deerhoof are too silly for words and both Newsom and Animal Collective are simply unbearable. Maybe I just don't "get it" like some people "don't get" Sonic Youth. Actually, I can completely sympathize with people who hate Sonic Youth. I just happen to like SY's brand of weirdness/uniqueness... these other artists, not so much. (The good outweighs the bad though... this board introduced me to many artists who I've been loving... Ex: Boris, Jesu, Mission of Burma...etc...) |
If it wasn't for Greg Saunier's drumming, I wouldn't be as favorable to Deerhoof as I am.
Although I haven't bought an album since Reveille. The others, I never expected anything good in the first place but yeah I suppose. |
animal collective are 'unbearable'... and you like jesu.
|
feels is unbearable to me too.
hollinndagain is blissful on the other hand, strawberry jam is tons of fun. |
The Ramones
|
My best friend once told me to listen to Panic At The Disco and Taking Back Sunday, because they're similar to what I listen to and I'll definitely like them. I listened to them on the internet. I was disappointed.
|
when i was younger my friends said i should listen to fugazi, what an utter dissapointment.
|
after years of having them on my list of bands to check out i checked out slovenly & pell mell for the first time this weekend, disappointing ,and Zoogz Rift were sheer awfulness. Universal Congress Of i liked a lot though.
|
Good call on Animal Collective, I was expecting some mind-blowing stuff and it is just psychedelic fluff.
|
guided by voices also. i was really exited to see them and they were really bad.

The last Mayhem album was hailed as a return to form by many a metal mag. What I actually bought was a CD of over-produced "no ma, no decent riffs" tosh. Bah. Kids, stick to Girls Aloud instead, they rock a billion times harder.

Nothing |
No Neck Blues Band were a major dissapointment for me, especially seeing them live.
|
i love guided by voices but they were crap when i saw them, and they played for about 2 and a half hours to boot.
|
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - s o many people told me to chekc their shit out and I hated it. I wasted about $20 on that shit music.
Leaonard Cohen - same shit. people kept hyping him and telling me how much of a lyrical genius he was an al I hear when I listen to his boring shit is a fucking old man warbling baritone songs about his fucking shit life and his fucking shit emotions. |

cumming on scarlet johansons tits. they played for hours, the bassists kept swinging his head from side to side ala paul mcartney and the songs were dull and lifeless. |
the bad seeds are an awful awful band.
|
i dont see how leanord and animal collective can apply. o well.
|
It's because it's a free world.
|
Birthday Party - yet another band heard mentioned by al the "right" people so foetn that I had to check it out and HOLY FUCK are they boring and dull. so dull. what a waste of another $20
|
animal collective is allright stuff. I'd give it all a 7 out of 10. nothing spectacular. their albums have that most dreaded of contents, FILLER

I agree. I suppose "disappointing live bands" is the implied tangential topic here. Maybe somebody will start that one. |
disappointing live bands is an odd thing, because anyone can have an off night, and if you happened to be waiting for weeiks or months and the band happens to have an off night then you get a false impression of their capabilities.
|
It's easier for me to list bands that I've discovered in the past few days that I think absolutely rip. Most things are disappointing.
with that said: Witchcraft Hail Mary Encyclopedia of American Traitors do yourselves a favor. and in response to all the Nick Cave and Leanard Cohen shit talk... I totally agree. Neither of those artists ever did anything for me. |
vampire weekend - liked that one song Apunk. checked them out at coachella and they were TERRIBLE
led zeppelin - yeah, I said it. everyones always like "dude, they are, like, totally, the best band in the world! how can you not like them?" pavement - everyones always talking about them on here, checked them out and was over it black rebel motorcycle club - when I was really into the brian jonestown massacre, I was told to check them out. found them a bit boring. clap your hands say yeah! - someone burnt me a cd. she had good taste in music, for the most part, and she hyped this band up so much. needless to say, I was very disappointed. cursive - back when i was into bright eyes in 01-02, i checked out this band because everyone was hyping them up on the internet. boring. she wants revenge - I liked that one hit of theirs a lot for a minute, checked them out live and I was so bored. |
holy shit, the birthday party? i was surprised how nuts they were. before that all i heard was the bad seeds, who yes, are extremly hit or miss, and after all those ballads i was blown away by the bday party! spazzed post punk noise psychobilly. i dont see how anyone can be bored by their tunes.
i can def see how someone can be surprised at pavement not being the best band of all time after hearing people from indie mags and sites talkin about them. i still like them though. controversial thread. |

I disagree. I guess one disappointing band for me is he Sex Pistols. |
