Best new/most anticipated albums: 2018
woohoo! Let's leave behind the year 2017 and look what's coming up in the new year 2018 !!!!!
and here's the first one: EFRIM MANUEL MENUCK TO RELEASE SECOND SOLO RECORD PISSING STARS IN FEBRUARY 2018 I'm looking forward into this one a lot already. Looks like it will not be released on CD though? Or maybe just not yet... |
Thanks for stealing my goddamn thread AGAIN. I was gonna post this tonight.
Oh well. I don’t care. you take it this year. But ... goddamn man. EDIT: It occurs to me that it might not have actually been you who did this exact same thing last year, and if that’s the case I’m sorry for getting shouty. |
NEW TAPE DECK MOUNTAIN COMING IN FEBRUARY! First new LP since 2014!

Well, 2017 was a shitty year for music, but yeah we should probably have one. I was also planning on making one of these, but not until the end of the year. Anyone who wants to is free to. |
Screaming Females have a new release coming... a couple of tracks have been released already. Marissa shreds on the guitar on a J Mascis level, so I've got a lot of time for their stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROpZSrq4Tf8

Hopefully that goddamn new Breeders album will come out. Loved the first tune from it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5i76b0OrdIQ

Really? |
I have think about my 2017 favs. too. wasnt listening to much of a new stuff anyway.
William´s Fowler Collins new record should be coming out soon and I am craving for this mother fucker release big time. |

I forgot all about the fact that a new Breeders album was supposed to come out this year. Dammit. Hell yes that thing needs to come out! |

Kind of. For me anyway. I have a list of about 30 albums that I felt were worth noting this year. Of those 30, I might have 10 that I’d be willing to put in a “best of the year” list. I normally have just an absolutely obscene amount of music by this point in the year. It often takes me until well into the following year to sort through the good albums, pick out the great ones, and then place them in order. This year I’m pretty sure I already have my list finished, and I haven’t even started it yet. Maybe I’m wrong and totally missing out on a bunch of shit though. You tell me. |
Quote:
I’m not questioning you, merely, you’re the only one I’ve seen sum up 2017 this way. I’m not position to debate as I’ve missed out on so much. |
Quote:
I might have missed out on some stuff too. I wasn’t being sarcastic or anything. I really am open to the possibility that I’m wrong. But what I’ve noticed is a lot of OK albums by good or formerly good artists, a lot of albums that are supposed to be good by newer artists that are actually quite boring, a shitload of truly mediocre releases from indie legacy bands like Iron & Wine, Grizzly Bear, Arcade Fire, GY!BE, etc., and a handful of really mind-blowing albums that are either be super obvious (like Kendrick) or went by without making any waves at all (like Blanck Mass’s excellent “World Eater”). Some artists I really admire like Ben Frost have come out with good albums that are also their least remarkable. I was pleasantly surprised by a few records in the rock realm, but not a lot. Yossarians, Milk Music, a few others I can’t recall just now. I dunno. Feels like a very so-so year. |
DJ Koze is working on a new album according to his social media ... uh... presence. Or maybe it was Resident Advisor. I dunno.
New Koze has been my #1 most anticipated non-Kanye album for the past five years. |
Can’t say it’s “anticipated” nor an “album,” but this Acid Bowie -Acid Bowie has infinite mixtape possibilities. Those who venture the samples will experience lush treats.

They are one of the best pop bands ever! :) |
I hope that OM or Sleep will release something new too.
|
Quote:
Is there some chance of Sleep releasing something? Om would be awesome too. Good guitar music is badly needed. |
Quote:
I am not saying...:) did not Pet Shop Boys released new record recently? another one after a long, long hiatus. why not! |
Quote:
Between Fundamental (2006) and Super (2016), PSB released a total of FIVE albums......no hiatus for them! Matter of fact, I’d venture to say there is no pop group from the 80’s releasing better music today! I had no clue Tears For Fears had a new album pending......cant wait to hear it! |
Quote:
seriously? did not know that. i thought they were on hiatus. I must have heard something new of theirs then. it was solid. seems like they're still digging it. |
off topic.
fact´s mag top 50 albums of 2017 http://www.factmag.com/2017/12/20/best-albums-2017/ somehow missed new Aaron Dilloway´s album! have to check it out! Fernow´s project Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement dub epic Ambient Black Magic on 32. nice! Visible Cloaks on 12th.? I haven´t heard the album, but I have seen them live performing new stuff and it was one of the most boring listening experiences of this year for me. sound wise they were good but content wise, just boring. |
Quote:
YES - so worth checking out! It’s Aaron’s first totally solo release since, Modern Jester (2012). I believe it’s all generated from tapes? His approach and textures result in a creepiness that Wolf Eyes hasn’t approached in their past couple of releases......you won’t be disappointed!!! Quote:
Is Stereolab the band on hiatus you were referring to? Not Music (2010) was their last release. |
There will also be a new Rivulets album out in 2018, the name is IN OUR CIRCLE. No idea when, but it will be on the French label Talitres
|
Quote:
Fucking hell, the Visibke Cloaks album has been one of the only real surprises of this largely stagnant year. It’s a hell of a freaking record, even if it doesn’t make for much of a live show. Really, seriously, genuinely glorious. |
Quote:
Well this is an ambitious little list, but it goddamn well fucks its credibility by putting Future’s HNDRXX in the top five?!?!? Please. No freaking way. No. Otherwise, good to see Jlin getting consistent love in these lists. And Visible Cloaks. But putting DAMN. at #41 makes no earthly sense. I expect some folks are just tired of giving the top spot to Kendrick, which is a shame because it’s wirhout question the year’s best, most realized and most culturally significant album. They forgot Botany and Mount Kimbie and Blanck Mass. |

Yob so far beneath Deafheaven is hilarious. Lists are funny, and seem to exist to give us dorks fodder for arguments more than anything....

I had a chance listen to first 3 tracks of Aaron´s new album. not bad at all! he has incorporated his voice into his music now. can´t wait to give it a proper listen over the wknd. No, seriously, I thought PSB were on hiatus and have not released anything since 2000´s. I know, it looks like my general knowledge about music releases went downhill. I used to be better in those things. I guess since 2005 I was in totally different waters and I went on hiatus myself, hehe. btw I listened to Negativeland´s Escape From Noise. I was not blown away by it. it is good, the idea is very nice, soundbites or samples are mixed, cut and poduced very professionally. I love (I would call it) "radio techniques programming" stuff. I was just missing something that would attract me. |
Quote:
that is exactly what _slavo_ told me when we went to a gig. he also didn´t enjoy them as much live as he enjoyed the album. o. k. I might give it a go and listen to the album. |
Quote:
I like yr. typo there. nice. cheers for the list. yeah them lists are weird, they are pretentious, esp. those by fact mag, pitchfork whatever. but still.... I prefer lists by more of a "underground" sources and even then, they are giving us fodder for arguments more than anything as Savage Clone wrote. |
Quote:
Yeah, check the album. Not the live show. It’s freaking headphone music. |
Quote:
I don’t know if I’m supposed to be insulted, but I’m not, so... thank you. |
Quote:
sorry if it sounded like a insult. opposite. srsly like the typo! in a good way. |
Quote:
I’m getting ready to get the year wrong every day for the next month or so anyway, so it’s good to get some practice in beforehand. |
