top 5 "seminal bands" you despise
 

this is purely my opinion, no offense intended, but im sure everyone has a few bands that are supposed to be good, but you just fuckin hate them

1. the cure
2. sioxie and the banshees
3. sleater kinney
4. the talking heads (except remain in light)
5. daft punk

pretty much all the bands you listed honestly.

Metallica
Oasis
Red Hot Chilli Peppers
Sid Vicious (not really a band though)
Lynyrd Skynyrd

That's a great list. I like some Cure and some Talking Heads, but honestly I would be totally satisfied with greatest hits from both those bands.


I loathe AC-DC, The Rolling Stones, and Radiohead all to a certain extent though I recognize they've done good stuff.

acdc ive alwayd had issues with, they have some rockin tunes tho, and i worship stones-let it bleed and exile.

i love sleater kinney. one of my favorite bands. heavens to betsy were amazing too and so was excuse 17. the cure, ehh, some good songs. i like some talking heads also, but they're pretty boring overall. early siouxsie and the banshees is pretty damn good. she and her band lost it after their first few albums though. daft punk have some cool songs, but again, ehhh whatever.

Someone bought me all hands on the bad one and though I haven't listened to it in a long time, I remember being rather bored by it.

Those 5 are good choices. Throw in GnR.

appetite for destruction will always be amazing. but yeah, guns n roses, stones, theybe become parodies of themselves. the stones shoulda quit after sticky fingers, not gone on for another fuckin 30 yeats, but exile and let it bleed are rock n roll masterpieces.

I can't name anything, I usually end up liking them. However, if there is a band I dislike is U2. Me and my BF always fight about this, he says they are god, etc, etc.

It's a matter of personal opinion. I can't stand them at all.

I'm sorry but i must agree wtih Zero . Ive tried to take in the jesus and mary chain and end up shaking my head . i honestly dont get the appeal .

Well i spose I like Pumpkins a bit still because I used to listen to them a lot when I was younger and I still enjoy their tunes circa 1993-1996. But I used to be way obsessed with them when I made this account.

Yeah Bono is way overrated and a hypocrite, but U2 has some good stuff, their old stuff at least. Not Joshua Tree though (Snooze)

Ok, I have to agree they do have some ok tunes, but overall their discography is a bore.

Haha, I meant of Green Day's vintage. Ramons were responsible for loads of great punk bands of the late 80's, and Sonic Youth as well.

As for the Buzzcocks, I don't listen to them. Old school punk isn't my thing.

im not sure what qualifies as seminal but five 'classic' bands ive never seen the point of (much) are

3. led zeppelin

5. janes addiction

I hate Bono but some of U2's music is actually amazing (Achtung Baby especially).

Seminal bands or not, I don't like the following at ALL:

1. AC/DC (God, does ANYONE here actually like them?)
2. Dinosaur Jnr (They were OK when Lou Barlow was in them, but after that they became a sort of Steppenwolf for the Converse generation)
3. Shellac (Boring, boring, boring, etc.)
4. Smashing Pumpkins (I've never knowingly listened to a single record they've made, but just by looking at them and reading their interviews I just know that they're rubbish.)
5. Nirvana (I know they meant a lot to some people, but I'll be buggered if I know why.)

Fair enough. And there was me being all deluded and thinking they were crap. You live and learn, as they say.

well, i'm not saying you're deluded, but you did ask if anyone actually likes them. personally i don't understand what's not to like.

I suppose I've just never 'got' them. I've tried a few times but, nope, nothing. Maybe its the vocals, which play a massive part in my inability to fully appreciate other bands, such as Led Zep.
