Besides my bloody valentine, what are ur favorite showgaze bands and why? i think after MBV, my favs are slowdive and ride, but i havent explored much outside besides them. anything i should check out?

Everyneurotic 04.16.2006 10:27 PM

when i saw them live, they were sometimes staring at their shoes

that's what shoegazer means, right?

RockerNino 04.16.2006 10:28 PM

oh yea, of course.

atsonicpark 04.17.2006 01:52 AM

Swirlies (who have shoegazer tendencies) and Slowdive.

RockerNino 04.17.2006 01:56 AM

"Then there was the whole “shoegazing” scene that we weren’t really into. We had that term tagged to us, and it seemed slightly derogatory. It was partly because a lot of the people in those bands used to go see us when they were younger, then they all formed bands, and they were openly into us. But they all kinda had their own thing going, but what they all had in common was chorus and flanger pedals. That wasn’t what we were doing. It was literally that approach to music that made me do what I was doing. I couldn’t stand that you could hear the pattern of the effect. So instead of being psychedelic, it was the opposite. It was something that your mind immediately recognizes, and ignores. So it was weird being linked to something that was in many ways the exact opposite of what we were about."

at the amusement park... its a great neo-shoegazing band, anyone into them?

SonikJesus 04.17.2006 02:46 PM

I was going to say Swirlies too.

doctor dan 04.17.2006 04:05 PM

at the amusement park? do you mean amusement parks on fire?

if yes then i most definetely am into them. theyre from my hometown of nottingham, and theyve helped completely rejuvinate nottinghams local scene. cant wait to hear their new album, its recorded at sigur ros' studio in iceland apparently...

gonna see them for like the 4th time at the dot to dot festival in may...

The 97th Hammer 04.17.2006 05:55 PM

It seems like every shoegazer tagged band has an argument going against them for their not being so.

Bertrand 04.18.2006 02:06 AM

I liked the first Telescopes album (with the Perfect Needle), before they signed to Creation to sound like Chapterhouse & others

sonicl 04.18.2006 03:10 AM

Loop, by a long long way.

SolidGoldHell 04.18.2006 03:12 AM

JAMC plus the Swirlies......

_slavo_ 04.18.2006 08:47 AM

Slowdive
Pale Saints
Cranes (not really shoegazer after all)
Curve
Lovesliescrushing

i put isis in the same sorting as mogwai, EITS, pelican, jesu, but yeah i think they are a modernized shoegaze band in a way. kind of like sigur ros.

my shoegaze elite would definitely be:
slowdive
swervedriver
pale saints
the verve
lush
catherine wheel
jatmc

dirty bunny 04.18.2006 05:55 PM

I'm not sure if Swervedriver actually count, but they're SO awesome why not. I also think Ride are wonderful, at least their first album. Another great album is The Buried Life by Medicine.

hey alex 04.19.2006 12:16 AM

hey I'd like to thank you all for these. I've always liked the sound of loveless, despite only hearing it like twice. I've been wanting to check out some shoegaze so this is helpful.
Also I've heard a few amuesment park on fire songs and thought they were cool.

Fox 04.19.2006 11:03 AM

After MBV, my favorite shoegaze band is Slowdive

In fact, shoegaze is my favorite scene :D

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.19.2006 12:17 PM

Loop
Jesus and Mary Chain
My Bloody Valentine
Spacemen 3

Rob Instigator 04.19.2006 12:25 PM

i don't knoiw about shoegaze but I loves me some CODEINE!

I bought two COME albums at the used store yesterday. chris brokaw from codeine plays guitar in COME

are COME shoegaze?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.19.2006 12:29 PM

Is it super fuzzed out trippy stuff with melodic vocals?

Rob Instigator 04.19.2006 01:01 PM

haven't heard it yet!
I listened to the specials and Ron Carter and Woody Shaw all night!

RdTv 04.20.2006 07:32 AM

trainyard bliss 04.20.2006 09:32 PM

shentov 04.22.2006 09:37 AM

Damn!!! I love Slayer..........
They're my favorite Shoe-gaze band too!!!!!!

Confusion is Dante 04.22.2006 11:14 AM

Okay.........When did this 'new' genre come about?
It seems to me that there are too many bloody labels being thrown around these days.

LittlePuppetBoy 05.03.2006 08:03 PM

I've become relly interested in MBV lately.
I've downloaded Loomer and Sometimes, and I think it's pretty damn good

Daycare Nation 05.03.2006 08:17 PM

I don't think anyone mentioned the records Swallow "Blow", or Henry's Dress "Henry's Dress." Other bands/artists that were/sound shoegazy that haven't been mentioned are Jessica Bailiff, Bowery Electric, and Chapterhouse.

soapbars 05.03.2006 08:30 PM

the ecstacy of saint theresa, not so much their later efforts but debut album sussurate is a fave,

its like an extreamly noisey heavier isnt anything, expect all the words are in french or something, not that you can hear them anyway,

doctor dan 05.03.2006 08:34 PM

confusion is dante-

i believe the term shoegaze is about 15 years old. certainly, most bands of the genre died out by the time grunge hit the uk...

holy-reverb!! 05.03.2006 08:36 PM

slowdive/ fukin love them

oh, ecstasy, y'know them?
they're from Czech Republic, really quite a mysterious project. I've seen them live on a summer festival three years ago at like 3 in the morning, it was quite a stunning experience.
Lately, they've been experimenting with ambient and soundscapes, however the 'sussurate' CD is the shit.

soapbars 05.04.2006 01:56 PM

darn tooting,

i knew they were from somewhere in europe i just forgot where exactly, so thank you,

mafushkwa 05.04.2006 04:43 PM

I really think that henry's dress is more of like a noise-pop band, you know? They aren't really too much of a shoegaze band.

Now rocketship on the other hand, I really think alot of their early stuff was shoegaze stuff.

I always associated a bit more noise with shoegaze for some reason. But yeah Rocketship does resemble MBV.

You're probably right about HD being noise pop, but then you would have to say that JAMC is noise pop too because that album sounds like JAMC quite a bit....and people are always saying JAMC is shoegaze (which they can't be really, because there was no such thing in 1985).

darthblav 05.05.2006 04:56 PM

for you jamc fans, a decent modern shoegaze band to check out would be skywave.

other great modern shoegaze bands -
brief candles
ariel
high violets
tom spacey (they are not around anymore)
dorian gray (ditto)
sigur ros (of course)

let try to keep the list going?
