Pub music quizzes

What do you think of them?I generally don't like them apart from the odd one. There was one in the pub i was in with some friends yesterday and it was one more chance to draw cocks and write 'twat' and 'cunt' on the quiz form.Of course my team lost big time and by the end of the night the form had animal pornography drawn all over it.Any good experiences?

I'm not into pub music quizzes as they generally cover eras about which I know nothing. I like general knowledge quizzes though, as my brain is a vessel for the storage of useless information.

the ikara cult 01.24.2007 08:17 AM

We came last once, and the team that came last got to choose the music round for the next week, so i said "Radiohead". Everyone else in the pub went "Who?". This gives you an idea of the kind of place it was.
The next week we came and, sure enough, our indie knowledge won us the prize. The long haired rocker propping up the bar went "Its not fair, noone else had a clue", we called him a bitter old man and made off into the night with the crate of beer, never to be seen again.

i like play your cards right in the pub thats always a laugh.

noumenal 01.24.2007 09:02 AM

I used to play trivia every Tuesday night in a Nashville place called The Flying Saucer. We would win sometimes and they would give us a round of drinks...It was sort of academic trivia for the most part.

hm, ive never heard of these until now, must be an english thing, but seems like you did have a good experience with the animal pornography & all. was it sheep? goats? horses?

along those lines... i just read some strange news the other day. arabian horses... was it here??

oh anyway.. . i have nothing to say about that thing you were talking originally about...

porkmarras 01.24.2007 09:08 AM

It was just one of those where they asked us to recognize the band that was doing a terrible and hipster-chic version of 'Teenage Kicks' by The Undertones.

wow, sounds like a very organized place. here people just go into bars and get shitfaced, make attempts at hooking up. oh, wait-- the jukebox is where one makes the musical display thing. these new jukebox the other day charged me $1 to play one song. one!! but anyway it seems that noumenal has seen different. but then again nashville is some sort of music mecca. or maybe i just go to the worst dives. maybe i'm still a little hangover too? but im supposed to be working. i need to make coffee.

The friendliness of the Retro Bar is astonishing. For a London bar to choose its staff based on their competence and friendliness is something of an innovation these days but the staff at Retro Bar seem genuinely pleased to serve. They're transparently fond of the bar they work in. On top of that, the music is not your typical gay fare, showing a stripe of intelligence and crediting the customers with the same. On Karaoke night (Wednesday), Quiz night (Tuesday) and DJ nights (Friday and Saturday) nights, there's always the more chilled out upstairs bar to escape to. Wendy (the manageress) has given the place such a strong sense of personality that you'd never guess it was owned by a corporation. Retro Bar is the best bar in London, whether you're gay or not.

Dunno who wrote that review but Wendy is a really nice person.

love em. love table quizzes. dont take em too seriously tho. in ireland there is way too much political and gaelic games stuff in them tho!!!!

fishmonkey 01.24.2007 11:15 AM

i went to a pub quiz once and got really drunk and on the walk home afterwards i started a big "fuck off" argument withme friend and ended up having a pop at him, to which he put me on my ass basically - as he was much larger than me. then i have to ring and say sorry the next day and all that shite blah blah blah....

PAULYBEE2656 01.24.2007 11:30 AM

they are actually quite fun, the sports one is deadly.

porkmarras 01.24.2007 11:43 AM

Anything for as long as they are not drinking games. They are for unimaginative students and people who turn alcohol into a lifestyle status symbol rather than an amusing way to argue with your own liver.

PAULYBEE2656 01.24.2007 12:07 PM

im banned from getting the sports one as th missus is anti soprt, well she likes motorsports so i cant argue that one. the music quiz is grea and the jungle fever kiddies one is insane with a few beers inside em (adults that is, i would never support kids drinking!!!)

Rob Instigator 01.24.2007 01:36 PM

jon boy 01.24.2007 02:15 PM

The best part about those quiz game things, is that most of the time no one knows who is who, so yelling obscenities at the leader or winner, goes pretty much unnoticed.
