What music never fails to cheer you up?
Things have felt a bit dull this evening, and put me in a resultant funk.
What music always succeeds in pulling you out of your funks? Two examples for now are The Buzzcocks and Big Black. More to come, but my tea is steeping. |
butthole surfers. haha

Adam Green and pretty much any anti-folk.
|
You answered your own question. Funk.
![]() Dig? |
Ah, folk has its moments, but it doesn't typically cheer me up. I usually save that for melancholy or retrospective moments.
The Boredoms are usually good for energy, and lately I've been diggin' me some Goatwhore and Make-Up. And for some reason, though they get some flak, Grandaddy always equals silly good cheer to me. |

Music that cheers me up and also because of its visulal connotations(i.e. videos):
Duran Duran - Wild Boys Arcadia - Election Day There are tons more. |
I love you, luxinterior.
And good point about the visuals, porky. Devo gets a nod for that. |

anti-folk is a bit different. It's very honest but also pretty funny |

Sunday Morning by Velvet Underground Meat Puppet's version of What to do |
All the music I like makes me happy in the same way, no matter what it is.
|
The Velvet Underground & Nico
The Arcade Fire- lots of the EP and a few tracks from Funeral (good memories, nostalgic) The Blood Brothers Animal Collective (most) Broken Social Scene (most) Daughters Dinosaur Jr Sonic Youth (most) Minor Threat Fugazi Islands XBXRX (and anything that I have good memories attached to). |
I've actually always found In Utero to be great for getting out of a bad mood, which is odd, since it's essentially a suicide note to music. I think that's what made Kurt's suicide so especially depressing, the way so many people used his music to get out of the very mood that he wasn't able to escape himself.

"We're all water" and "Sisters O Sisters" by Yoko Ono.
You can find them in the last CD ("A Story") of the Onobox. |
Here goes the lyrics for the first one:
There may not be much diff'rence Between chairman mao and richard nixon If we strip them naked. There may not be much diff'rence Between marylin monroe and lenny bruce If we check their coffins. There may not be much diff'rence Between white house and hall of people If we count their windows. There may not be much diff'rence Between raquel welch and jerry rubin If we hear their heartbeat. We're all water from diff'rent rivers, That's why it's so easy to meet. We're all water in this vast, vast ocean, Some day we'll evaporate together. There may not be much diff'rence Between eldridge cleaver and the queen of england If we bottle their tears. There may not be much diff'rence Between manson and the pope If we press their smile. There may not be much diff'rence Between rockefeller and you If we hear you sing. There may not be much diff'rence Between you and me If we show our dreams. We're all water from diff'rent rivers, That's why it's so easy to meet. We're all water in this vast, vast ocean, Some day we'll evaporate together. Hey! |
