Is Sonic Youth your favorite band?
Well are they?, Poll on it's way.
Hip Priest started a thread like this when the board first opened, http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sho...th+favouri te But that was ages ago, new people have arrived and old people have sadly left. :( and opinion's change, So what is your opinion now? If Sonic Youth is not your favorite band then WHO IS??? (Sorry for staring so many Poll's recently) |
no, but theyre in top 3 bands.
yes...after 16 years, they are still number one to me. oh, i won't deny
i have been tempted by other juicy fruits. but no one has toppled nyc's finest from the perch. |
Same here, i have been tempted by a few other bands and musicians, But i always come back to Sonic Youth.
Sonic Youth have been my favorite band since 1987 and they remain that to this day and for all days.
yes and no, depends.
I don't assign "favorites", but I can't deny that I hype over them over most of the other stuff I listen to.
I don't have an absolute favorite. But they are one of my favorites.
I don't like to say I have one single favorite band. SY are just one of many favorite bands that I have.
no. they were my favourite band for about 13 years, but i was spurned by the Great Betrayal (rather ripped).
i didnt think it possible to have a favourite band, then i got about ten of their albums and by the time i'd properly listened to them all they were easily way ahead of any other band. they just cover so much ground.
emphatically, yes.
and unlike a lot of other bands, their music still gives me goosebumps. Quote:
that album owns me! |
it's the only sonic youth album i don't own
they're my all-time favorite but sometimes other bands are my favorite for the day.
No, they're sort of obnoxious.
no, but they are Top 5....
its almost a tie with like another 1000 bands , but overall , yeah they are my fav, without a doubt, maybe its cuz of nostalgia...who knows?
I don't really have anything after SY in order or anything, but the Youth are my faourite band of all-time, and have been for a couple of years now. They utterly changed my life, and destroyed my concept of what music could be, were, and remain to be the biggest impact on my own music, and just simply are the greatest thing ever. No other bands even come close to the level of respect and love and admiration I have for Sonic Youth.
Nope.
yes.
I don't have a single favorite, but if someone asks me some of my favorite bands, they're always on the list.
One of the favorites for sure, pretty hard to quanitify it though, its like you ask someone what their favorite movie is, hard to say...
Yes. Sonic Youth is my favourite band and it will always be like that.
Most certainly.

yeah i agree, its like i love sleater-kinney but they have only done 7 albums, sonic youth have done millions!!!!!! and they are all amazing!, so it would have to be someone with a body of work like Neil Young that could top sonic youth. |
I voted YES, because right now I just love them and every single SY member has something that i like beyond their music. And I'm not gay.
That said, maybe I'll change my mind in a near future. Hopefully I'll listen to even better bands in a few years, who knows. |
p.s. and seeing them live over the years made me love them more and more, and that's a very important thing to me.
I have a real love hate relationship with the band. Love the music but not at all into them as people (well a couple of them anyway.)

I think that's exactly it. They're now an institution in the same way bands like The Fall or The Cramps are. I feel more of a respect towards them these days than any real enthusiasm about what they're currently doing. Whilst I get in and out of other bands, SY are like the Beatles for me in that they provide a nagging constant in my life. |
They have been on the same level as The Velvet Underground for years now.Last two albums let me down but being let down by Sonic Youth is not the same thing as,say, being let down by The Rolling Stones or rubbish like that.
Not now.

to me being let down by SY is worse than being let down by some old rubbish |
what porkmarras means (i think) is that if you are let down by sonic youth then it means the music is good but just not as good as it should or could be. But with the rolling stones or someone else the music is only good at its best so if you are let down by it it must be terrible!
I have to admit that most of my other all time favorite bands, from Sun Ra's Arkestra, to the Stooges, the Ramones, and Teenage Jesus and the Jerks, I became aware of, or was influenced to appreciate more, because of Sonic Youth going back the the mid '80s when I first heard them.
sonic youth is numero uno.
rather ripped rules. it beats the shit out of every stupid over emoted emo fucking shit out there. it makes my chemical romance look like the whiny suburban rich kids they arem, with their 200 dollar haircuts rather ripped rules. |
I wanted to vote yes, but Sonic Youth is to me the second best band after Swedish Kent.

Quote:
question is, will that intensify your skepticism and possibly alter your perception of their next full length, and does it ever extend to the side projects? |
Yes they still are. Although ironically enough they aren't in the two albums of all time.
Also, isn't it meant to be "Are SY youth your favorite band" |

there is a great webbsite called WHY I HATE MICK JAGGER
Charlie Watts, the drummer for the Stones, once punched Mick. Keith had taken Mick out to party and get wasted and they came back to their hotel around 4:00am-5:00am, loud and drunk. Charlie was in his room asleep when the phone rang and woke him up. It was Mick calling drunk as all fuck, yelling "Where's ma drumma? I need ma drumma!!! Where's ma drumma boy?" into the phone over and over again, and laughing. Charlie Watts got up, showered, shaved himself, got dressed, walked over to Keith's room and knocked on the door. When a drunken Jagger opened the door Charlie, a man of few words, reared back and cold-cocked Mick square in the jaw, sending him flying back, as Keith says, onto the room service cart and almost out the window. Mick started bawling and Charlie put it to Mick clear as crystal: "Don't ever call me your drummer boy again. You're MY fuckin' SINGER." charlie watts rules. |
