Japanese Thrash?

Does anybody have any recommendations for some good Japanese thrash......the heavier and weirder the better.

Thanks!

sonicl 02.28.2007 01:09 AM

Can you name a few western bands in the genre that you're looking for, just for guidance sake? I'm not entirely sure what counts as thrash any more.

krastian 02.28.2007 01:13 AM

Hmmm, I'd say Slayer/Sodom/Sepultura/Motorhead sounding thrash?? With weird jammy freakouts if possible!!;)

Wait, I think I just described the new band that I want to start....he he.

Onani Nic 02.28.2007 02:37 AM

Sabbat are the only one I know. Weird waaaaaay over the top blackened thrash (or trashed black metal?)

sonicl 02.28.2007 04:34 AM

Give High Rise a try. Not exactly what you're looking for, but monumentally excellent anyway.

High Rise - Disallow

High Rise - Desperado

High Rise - Live

Volcanic Tongue's High Rise stocklist

Mainliner (High Rise offshoot) - Imaginative Plain

Tokolosh 02.28.2007 04:40 AM

You might find some japanese thrash here, but it's mostly punk.

porkmarras 02.28.2007 04:42 AM

High Rise are a good call. There's a band called Do Thank Anal that i've known for some time but i never seem to be able to find much information about them even on the internet.

Savage Clone 02.28.2007 10:37 AM

I was going to recommend Sabbat as well.
Pretty weird and prolific band, but be prepared for screechy vocals.

High Rise are one of the best bands ever.

Tokolosh 02.28.2007 11:38 AM

Doom

Everyneurotic 02.28.2007 01:16 PM

it seems no one in japan or the west calls it "thrash" because it's actually an amalgam of sounds that pretty much go from hardcore to grindcore to crust to crossover; most call it japanese hardcore, but it's very thrash and more extreme than most thrash anywhere else:

s.o.b.
deathless mass
deathside
lipcream
rose rose
gauze
fuck on the beach

i recently got a bunch of these on tape from a trade, i also got a tape with 4 bands, i don't know if all of them are japanese but:

outo
suffle
chicken bowels
googol plex

thewall91 02.28.2007 02:06 PM

peelander z are punk and not thrash, but they're a whole lot of fun if they ever come to a town near you:

voided 02.28.2007 06:09 PM

Gauze amazing band... SOB, Lipcream, Outo the 4 way comp pushead did mid 80's is a kickass 12" if you can find that.. Hellchild sways a bit more metal but a good band for sure.. Warhead, Forward, Rocky and the Sweden, Zenigeva is an amazing band but a bit more metal noise stuff... bathtub shitter is more grind but cool saw them recently actually on a US date.

Toilet & Bowels 02.28.2007 06:12 PM

these bands are japanese, fast, loud, heavy, crazy and great

gore beyond necropsy
bathtub shitter
melt banana
200 mph

D: you just posted for me...

fuctimwavinmadik 03.01.2007 12:33 AM

hey couldn't open any of the .rar files on the japanese blog, it has like a password or something but the site says file not found anymore
anyways, seems interesting all those bands

hey Krastian try Guitar Wolf, the holy shit around that sound, its not specifically trash, or grindcore, but the sound will resume anything yr looking for, for real Zeni Geva also, or Melt Banana

krastian 03.01.2007 12:53 AM

Awesome, thanks for the ideas!!

Phlegmscope 03.01.2007 05:53 PM

U.F.O Or Die? not thrash, but thrashy.

Massassinated 03.04.2007 06:53 PM

Melt Banana are fucking great indeed.

Everyneurotic 03.04.2007 09:31 PM

sorry, i forgot:

systematic death
swarrrm
mortalized

although the last two lean more towards grindcore than thrash.

DJ Rick 03.05.2007 08:40 PM

I used to collect this stuff pretty heavily. I was practically subscribed to certain distros to sell me one of everything...for years. And I lived off selling this collection for a whole year after the dot-com bust.

I second the recommendation of Lip Cream, Deathside, Rose Rose, SxOxB, and Outo.

I'd like to add...

S.D.S.
Voidd
Paintbox
Unwise
Slight Slappers
Exclaim
Toast
Ego Fix
Vivisection
Shikabane
DxRxY
Flash Gordon

While it wasn't until the mid-80's that most North American bands on the punk side of the punk/metal divide would incorporate metal elements (e.g. D.R.I., Desecration, the Accüsed, etc.), in Japan, there was no such taboo, and as early as G.I.S.M. in 1981, there was thrashy metallic HC punk that was very much "punk" in ethos.

krastian 03.06.2007 12:52 AM

Woo!!!

sonicl 03.06.2007 09:47 AM

I can't beleive I've omitted this:

Once again, not thrash, but stunning anyway.

Outo is Japanese :)

There's also Confuse. I did have a couple songs by them but they've disappeared?

V/A - JISATSU OMNIBUS- 8" Comp. EP (Jisatsu Records, Japan, 1984)

Totally classic but sort of unknown Japanese comp. Released on the lovely 8" size and featuring hit after hit from SEXUAL, CONFUSE, ZIGA (written in japanese letters) and M-78.
You'll get the regular japanese dose of brutal, melancholic, sometimes metallic thrash. SEXUAL had one or two flexis, CONFUSE are among the most popular japanese bands (I've had the bands debut here already - check the search function) and ZIGA and M-78 are unknown to me, besides these fine tracks here. Check m-78's guitar solo at the end of the song - incrediblle, total GASTUNK style! You will probably know the CONFUSE songs from the german "Atrocious Madness" Bootleg 7", btw.

There was a follow-up to this, on Hold-up Omnibus Records, in 8" size as well, with live recordings of SYSEMATIC DEATH, GHOUL and others, but it's nowhere near the quality of this collectible babe.

SEXUAL: Devil Reversion.mp3
SEXUAL: The End approaches.mp3
CONFUSE: Atrocious Madness.mp3
CONFUSE: Kill the .....mp3
CONFUSE: Hunger.mp3
ZIGA: Out of Place.mp3 / Minded child.mp3
M-78: [japanese title].mp3

yes, on closer inspection, from that four way tape i have, all of the bands are japanese. suffle are oi! though, japanese oi! is pretty funny.

krastian 03.15.2007 11:37 PM

Did you listen to that comp, krop? How is it? The cover is great.

SonicSam 03.16.2007 10:34 AM

Great thread! My favourite Japanese 'thrash' bands are: gudon, SOB, outo, lipcream, deadless muss, damnable excite zombies, slight slappers, nightmare, mutant, mind of asian, ghoul, zouo, gauze, gai, paintbox, dudman, googolplex, chicken bowels, unholy grave, asbestos, dead cops, inzest, warhead, judgment, LSD and the bones

check the japanese section on www.7inchpunk.com. For an endless supply of top stuff.

sarramkrop 03.16.2007 10:34 AM

Well worth it but i'll have to give it a few more spins.

Edit - That was directed at Krastian.

golden child 03.17.2007 01:38 PM

the only japanese thrash band i am familar with is gauze, but they are great. highly recommended. great thread also, gotta remember to check out some of these names...

vulva 02.08.2008 10:48 AM

Cool! I love thrash and I love japanese music. Downloading that compilation right now, can't wait to hear it.
Also, from briefly glancing through this thread, I've developed an interested in Fuck On The Beach. Any suggestions where I should go with them?

krastian 02.08.2008 12:16 PM

^I guess I'd check out Fastcore on the Beach first.
