The most under-rated band

Ok, mine is Thought Industry. I don't know anyone other than myself who gives a shit about these guys. I only know one guy on the internet, even. I picked up their album "Songs for Insects" because it was in a $2 bin and it was produced by Dave Rave of Skinny Puppy fame. I popped it in my cd player and within 5 minutes it had achieved "Must listen at least once a month" status. Now, I'm not saying they are the best band ever to exist, but they are definately good enough for everybody to know their name.

For a taste, check out Daughter Mobius on their myspace site.

Anyone else got one?

I only listen to what Oprah tells me.

Bluebottle Kiss.

zedius 03.02.2007 11:54 PM

Hey I really like Gertie Fox and Bluebottle Kiss, and would buy their albums in a second. Blue Bottle Kiss sounds so much like sonic youth, in a good way.

Weird War, I dunno, I like it alright. Still on the fence.

Terence trent d'arby's out of my juristiction.

I couldn't find Come, but would definately like to hear some for the foetus connection.

Norma J 03.03.2007 01:39 AM

You get repped my friend for liking Bluebottle Kiss.

Come

http://www.matadorrecords.com/come/

they have sevral records all good.

prior to come was uzi (one ep sleep asylum and the other band live skull)

zedius 03.03.2007 02:33 AM

! Oh ha ha I looked up Come on wikipedia and it listed a US new york band from decades ago and a UK rock band from the 90s so of course I assumed the previous one, which is why my post references foetus. Wicked, thanks for the link. I can't get the real audio to work but I am listening to thalia zadek's solo and I think it's quality for sure. I'll add come to my list of shit to look for in snobby record stores.

SYRFox 03.03.2007 04:46 AM

Liars or Gang Gang Dance

demonrail666 03.03.2007 10:05 AM

McLusky. I'm the only person I know that listens to this band. They were so fucking amazing.

Also, Mission of Burma never got their due.

zedius 03.03.2007 02:52 PM

^ I like it. Sounds kinda like Seasick to me:

I don't like the idea of a 'most underrated', but I think that Datblygu are overlooked far too often. Schnittke doesn't get the kudos he deserves, mainly because he doesn't sit comfortably in the general notions of 20th century 'classical' music. I'm in love with the Bragod CD I got, a few tracks of which I upped in the world music thread. On the Japanese front, in a world of wrongly over-looked peeps, Kazuo Imai and Shuji Inaba (the latter being a PSF artist, the former a student of Masayuki Takayanagi) don't get mentioned enough, even by people who're into that sort of thing.

I might come back here with a list of un-signed bands for the collective interest, but then again I might not.

Jimmy Donely. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Donley (crappy wiki article that I made)
He redcorded/wrote tons of songs, and hardly made dime off them.
In my opinion Jimmy Donley's songwriting > Hank Williams songwriting
I have the only album available. If anyone wants to hear, PM me

drrrtyboots 03.04.2007 08:37 PM

Either Unwound or Polvo. Two of the most innovative noise-rock groups during the 90's by far.

atsonicpark 03.04.2007 09:18 PM

I don';t think unwound are underrated, but polvo is the first thing I thought of when I saw the title of this thread.

Them and swirlies..

zedius 03.09.2007 06:32 PM

I got another one: The Gandharvas. They got "famous" for "First day of spring" but never really went anywhere after that. I think they had an incredibly original sound, and at the same time really accessable.

I have 2 of their albums and I like almost everything on both of them.

badgercorn 03.09.2007 06:39 PM

McLusky were great and split before their time.

As were the Yummy Fur. Some of them are now in the 1990s, but they're no Yummy Fur. Check out Male Shadow at 3 O'Clock

Cardinal Rob 03.09.2007 07:14 PM

I honestly think that Paris Hilton is underrated.

ZEROpumpkins 03.10.2007 03:03 AM

Pavement weren't under-rated, but they deserved more attention then they got. No one I know knows who they are.

Trasher02 03.10.2007 03:11 AM

The swirlies, polvo and unwound.

Rob Instigator 03.12.2007 11:13 AM

most underrated?

archers of loaf

Sun City Girls
Caroliner
The Ruins

I agree about Shuji Inaba he's pretty intense, to me he's only second to Haino but he's different.
