The band most influenced by the Velvets
 

Sounds a bit of a weird question considering that 99% of the bands mentioned here have to some degree been influenced by them, but who do you think has been the most explicit?

they even played the Velvets in Mary Harron's "I Shot Andy Wharol"

Big Star. On their third album they completely captured the feel of the Velvets third album.

After that, Galaxy 500.

I suppose maybe The Modern Lovers are the band most selfconsciously saturated in them.

Oh, wait, I almost forgot. The Dream Syndicate. Duh. Days of Wine and Roses was practically a Velvets tribute record.

there's a dutch band called bingo trappers who sound a lot like the Velvets. but yeah, i'd say yo la tengo or the modern lovers.

YLT for sure. Ira sings a lot like lou reed and theyve covered a few songs of theirs i believe. They played "She's My Best Friend" when I saw them a year ago.
