Le GUess Who Festival Utrecht Nov 9-12 2017
![]() |
Hey! Cool! Are you going?
(See dude, I can be, and am inclined to be, nice, despite our spats in the Trump thread. I’m not tooting my horn; just pointing out that I’m not a bully) |
REALLY wanna go to this. A couple of my friends were keen too. However, one of them is a pov student and the other in a crappy ass wage job. Shame cos that's the kinda line up atp would have done at some point.

Crappy ass wage job? As in, non-salary? Anyway, how does that prevent him from going to a concert? Can’t get time off? Tickets too much? I would totally fucking go to this. |
wow. paul clipson!!!
|
what a fucking lineup. i want to go.

A concert in another country... flights, accomodation. It adds up. Seems like all the best festivals in Europe these days are in Benelux. CF Kraak, Roadburn... |
I'm going!
|
Any of our "Dutch masters" gonna see & record Haino?
|
Quote:
This. But yeah, looks like a good one. Just wish Jerusalem in my Heart would tour the uk with this. |
Quote:
Oh hell yeah man. Jerusalem in my Heart is great! And I get it. There’s no way I’d be able to fly domestic just to see a concert, let alone international. |
full line-up is here: http://leguesswho.nl/lineup
Thurston is playing two sets, one with his band and one set with the jazz drummer Han Bennink Even though the line-up is indeed awesome, I don't think I will be going. But I do highly recommend Oiseaux-Tempete !!! For those that are going, go see them. |

r u???? |
I'd love to go.
However, it's not imaginable for me at this point (now that I'm a dad, I can forget many things I did before) |

Mazel tov! |
so I got full festival pass yesterday.
|

I will be bringing my Zoom recorder with me (would love to record Sarah Davachi´s set big time), if there will be chance I will record Haino´s set, but can not promise it. |

can you see any timetable of acts on their site, or is there none?
I hope none of these acts will clash thursday: Grouper & Paul Clipson Sun Kil Moon Thurston Moore & Han Bennik friday: Thurston Moore Group William Basinsky GAS Prurient Films by Paul Clipson saturday: grand there, it can clash anything with anything I do not mind, although Ben Frost is must for me on sat. plenty of acts to explore. sunday: also sunday is grand for me with Sarah Davachi is must. I have seen Visible Cloaks just recently so I am grand. seen Sun Ra Orchestra as well, but is always lovely to see them. plenty of acts to explore. 12 hrs. drone artists are something I want to explore till festival comes, coz I do not know any of them and I have been enjoying interesting drone stuff lately. |
there's no timetable yet indeed.
12h drone fest features Jessica Moss who's a member of Silver Mt Zion (and wife of Efrim of also Silver Mt Zion but Godspeed You Black Emperor too). Don't know any of the others really, except Thisquietarmy by name |
Grouper & Paul Clipson will play in a church!
|
Quote:
sounds great. |
not A church
THE church! :) |
are we going to rent a bicycle to get around easily and get full local experience :-), or are the venues within walking distance?
|
most of the venues are within a walking distance.
|
time schedule is now here
and just as I thought: it's overlap galore which is the main reason I don't go to these festivals. Take the first day: Sun Kil Moon playing at the same time as Keiji Haino and also Oiseaux Tempete and also Jerusalem In My Heart |
Quote:
cheers for the link. bollocks. Grouper/Paul Clipson crashing with Thurston Moore/Han Bennink and one of them is happening in completly different venue then within Tivolli complex. Prurient with GAS, same story with venues. bollocks. |

Sun Kil Moon vs Jerusalem in my Heart would be a tough choice |
Quote:
Yes, best to stay at home and see nothing at all than be faced with the anxiety of a tough decision. |
Quote:
So what I do is try to see them while they are not playing this festival. For instance I'm heavily considering to see Jerusalem & Oiseaux Tempete when they play in Brussels a couple days later |
I can understand that. Festivals can be costly and that money is often better spent on gig tickets.
|
Fucking strong line-up. It looks as if I'll probably be going to this.
|
Quote:
let me know if you do. |
Guess What?
A year has passed and the initial line-up and the curators for this year's Guess Who? festival has been announced! Quote:
|
I don't know almost any of these.
I was 80$ sure that I'd go this year, but now I'm not so sure anymore. |
see the last line ;)
But indeed the line-up so far appears to be less impressive than last year. FACS is 3/4 of Disappears (minus the bass player), and their new album is pretty good. Wouldn't mind at all seeing them live. But for the rest I don't really care so much, besides Breeders and Lydia Lunch. |
Quote:
According to https://www.allmusic.com/album/negat...s-mw0003149342, they're now 2/4 of Disappears. So I guess they added another guy to keep it a trio or summat. |
hey,
can anyone recommend some good festivals at autumn/late summer time, situated in Europe, besides Le Guess Who and Sonic City? me (+my wife) and greenlight would wanna go somewhere, tho I'm not so sure about LGW this year... |
there's a festival in my hometown on 24/25 August: http://www.effenaar.nl/agenda/9089/f...oven-2018-2/en
At the end of June there's this festival: https://downtherabbithole.nl/ Also in June: https://www.pinkpop.nl/2018/nl/programma/ there's also Lowlands in August, but they say on their site that it's already sold out And in Hasselt, Belgium in August: https://www.pukkelpop.be/nl/line-up/abc/ also in Belgium, but in July: https://www.rockwerchter.be/nl/line-up if you want it doom and autumn, there's Desertfest in Antwerpen: http://www.desertfest.be/line-up there used to be also the Incubate festival in Tilburg, which I would have highly recommended. Unfortunately it has been cancelled because they had a major budget cut problems. That's too bad, didn't know about it until now when I googled about the lineup for this year ... |
