Baseball Fever

This thread is for the handfull of us on here that like baseball. Post about your favorite team(s), predictions, hopes, worries etc. here.

I've had the fever since 2 weeks before catchers and pitchers were scheduled to report to spring training in February.....it's sick. This shit has been such a huge part of my life ever since I was 4 or 5 and the love I have for the game is a bit hard to even put into words.

Opening night is Sunday with a rematch of the NLCS between the Mets and Cardinals.

Save the "baseball sux dudez" comments......I mean really.

davenotdead 03.27.2007 02:14 AM

yeah, thought i could get away with living without it for a season...since im in australia right now, but thats not gonna happen....i already have 3 fantasy teams....im addicted...cricket sucks...just so all you Euro people know...it sucks pretty hard compared to baseball...it is more boring than baseball and the guys look goofy running after the ball without gloves/mitts...they look like poor Dominican kids who can't afford gloves...and there is no chance for excitement because they don't use gloves, and they use paddles instead of bats...and they throw to the ground instead of to the batter...

davenotdead 03.27.2007 02:15 AM

and and i hate their snooty sweater vests.

So I'm assuming you are from the States? Do they show games over there or do you just read about them?

I have nine fantasy teams right now....been playing since 2000.

Who is your team? I'm a diehard O's fan (obvi).

Norma J 03.28.2007 04:22 AM

I like baseball hey. One of them sports I actually like. Never watch it though. I mean to but then forget as soon as I thought about it.

davenotdead 03.28.2007 09:05 AM

si, je suis american....they might show games on cable, but i wouldnt think so...so the internet is my key...don't really have a team...just like certain players...for fantasy/investment purposes...

fishmonkey 03.28.2007 09:37 AM

i went to a Yankee's game when i was in NY last October, it was the first game of the play-off's and to be honest it was the best fuckin part of my holiday, in fact after Man U games it was one of the fuckin best nights of my life, i'm telling ya the atmosphere was electric. i've always been a kind of a Yankee's fan since.

jennthebenn 03.28.2007 09:42 AM

nationals fan here, hoping to get to several games with patrick this year.
(he's still clinging to hope with the o's, though) very curious to see how
the young squad with a new manager will fare in the same division with the
mets, phils and braves.

on a completely unrelated note, i hope the cubs lose 102 games and
alfonso soriano gets batteries thrown at him by overweight schoolchildren.

something 03.28.2007 04:20 PM

red sox born and raised in boston so yea i really dont care if they win the wolrd series cuz ive already seen it once in my lifetime and thats good enough for any red sox fan but it is cool how we have dice-k and how they gave him johhny "the sell out mother fucker who will have an anvil dropped on him" damon's old number (18)

Пятхъдесят Шест 03.28.2007 09:00 PM

Another year, another last place finish.

Wow, that's pretty awesome.....as much as I hate the Yankees I still would love to go to Yankee Stadium before they move to the new Yankee stadium. A regular season game would be fun, but WOW a playoff game?!? That must have been insane. How did you get tickets?

Yeah, it's a shame they didn't get anything for Soriano......NOTHING. They HAD to trade him.....def. a head scratcher. I wouldn't be surprised if they traded Cordero this year to get a couple good young players. Zimmerman rules, Patterson is good, Lopez is a pretty good player (who I liked in CIN) who can steal you a bag, and Nick Johnson can hit if he can only stay healthy. I should prob. hate the Nats, but they are def. one of the handful of other teams I root for.

Have you seen the 3D/digital pictures of the new stadium? It's look pretty awesome and the Cherry Blossums are a great idea if they keep the bees under control!!!

Even though the Cubs rotation seems pretty iffy after Zambrano, Lilly, and Hill, I still think they have a shot at the Wild Card. Pinella is a great manager/motivator and they are going to score a zillion runs. I think Zmabran will win the Cy Young and I pray that the O's will throw him an insane amount of jack at the end of the season and he will be an O for life.......he he.

I think the O's have a shot of being over .500 which is a nice step for them. Huff is going to really help protect Miggy, Nick rakes, Bedard is becoming one of the best pitchers in the AL, Cabrera and Lowen have a ton of potential, and we actually have a pretty good bullpen this year. We really need a first baseman......I'm looking at you, Mark Texiera.

I thought Patrick was just a Nat fan.

Well, at least you guys have Alex Gordon.

They need to strip that whole organization down from top to bottom. Since the market isn't that great and they don't want to spend any money, they really need to have people that know what they are doing with scouting players so that they can have the best/most efficient draft every year. Granted the draft in baseball is like finding a needle in a haystack after the first round or two.

They should just give control of the team to me and in ten years the Royals will be in the playoffs:D ;)

noumenal 03.29.2007 12:36 AM

I used to go see the Sounds in Nashville. Cheap beer and hot dogs.

Go Braves!

krastian 03.29.2007 12:47 AM

God damn I hope the Braves don't trade Andruw Jones to the Yankees......it's a very realistic rumour. He'll prob. end up there anyway......the Braves prob. aren't going to be able to pay him after this year. A shame really.

Ha ha ha.....for real. Free the birds!!!!

I think I'll be more interested in follwing/watching Nats games next year when the stadium is ready......RFK is a snooze fest (personality wise). Both the O's and Nats will have some more money to spend with the revenue coming in from the new MASN channel and all. Right now the Nats just don't seem like they will be a lot of fun (for me) to watch. Their lack of starting pitching might spell disaster this year.....but they are still basically an expansion team who are still settling in, so it's all good.

Norma J 03.29.2007 02:34 AM

I'm moving out to where we won't have cable. I was really going to make a concious decision to watch some games with a beer and vegan hot dogs. Maybe if it's started I can do it before I move out.

Yeah, Nebraska's own Alex Gordon, you should add.

Folks in Kansas City, and the surrouding area would support the team better if they weren't so awful, and poorly managed. Just look at the Chiefs, never an empty seat, and this is even during their sub par seasons. It used to be the other way around, people would pack into Kauffman Stadium, and Arrowhead would be near empty.

No way. They'll finish 4th or maybe even 3rd in the central this year. Out of the 5. Wait and see.

krastian 04.05.2007 11:42 PM

First and foremost, I'd like to say that the Orioles suck ass.

Ok, here are my picks, so just humor me.

AL East-Yankees
AL Central-Tigers
AL West-Angels
AL Wild Card-Red Sox

NL East-Mets
NL Central-Cubs
NL West-Dodgers
NL Wild Card-Phillies

ALCS-Angels and Yankees
NLCS-Mets and Dodgers

World Series-Yankees and Mets......Yankees win in 6.

AL MVP-Vlad Guerrero
NL MVP-Jose Reyes

AL Cy Young-Johan Santana
NL Cy Young-Jake Peavy

AL Rookie of the Year-Daisuke Matsuzaka
NL Rookie of the Year-Chris Young

pantophobia 04.06.2007 05:59 PM

*sigh* i hope it's not yankees and mets in the series, it's one thing to look back in the past and see the old yanks, the old giants, and the old dodgers of NYC, but the modern era really reeks of a no-salary cap league excess

for a while i didn't mind having the mets there to counter the yanks, but now they are division rivals to the nats, and rather bothersome

it's the one thing about baseball and basketball i hate, even more then steroids, and the media, i mean espn is just rimming yanks, mets, bosox, chisox, and fuck a cubbie, the fuck why do they care, fuck a cubbie

jennthebenn 04.06.2007 07:21 PM

fuck a cubbie, son! tell 'em why you aggrieved!

i think it's going to end up mets vs. angels in the series, with the angels
winning. that's my early gutshot.

Danny Himself 04.06.2007 07:27 PM

Go team!

Пятхъдесят Шест 04.06.2007 07:47 PM

Which team Danny? Specify!

You love Seattle! Be a Mariners fan. If you want to be miserable.

davenotdead 04.07.2007 12:40 AM

my picks

Yanks
Indians
Angels
WC-Twins

Mets
Reds
DBacks
WC-Phillies

Mets over the Angels in 7

AL MVP- Vladimir Guerrero (or Grady Sizemore, but I doubt 2 lead-off hitters will win)
NL MVP-Jose Reyes (or Brian McCann...he's such a stud for a Catcher)

AL Cy Young-Johan Santana
NL Cy Young-Aaron Harang

AL Rookie of the Year-Delmon Young
NL Rookie of the Year-Chris Iannetta
_____________

krastian 04.11.2007 12:06 AM

You hanging in there, Jenn??

jennthebenn 04.11.2007 12:30 AM

yes...i am. it's a hallmark of my insanity.

1-7. shutout last night in a game where we made tim hudson look like
steve carlton.

i am taking comfort in the fact that we have one win already. SIGH.

krastian 04.11.2007 12:41 AM

It looks pretty bleak, I have to say. Even Patterson has looked bad. I'm trying to trade away Cordero for another closer in 2 of my fantasy leagues because I'm afraid with that pitching they won't be able to get him the ball much with a lead. Hopefully they won't be the worst team in baseball, but it doesn't look to promising. Either way, they'll have some money to throw around with revenue from the new ballpark and MASN (which rules I must say.)

I thought the O's should have swept the Yankees. When Giambi came up in the second game I said to myself, "It's all good, we'll bring in Walker." Of course, Cumberland's finest, Sammy "what the hell were you thinking" Perlozzo, decided to leave Baez in and boom!! I can see how he wanted to show his confidence in Baez as his main guy in the 8th regardless of who was hitting, but as Herm Edwards said, "You play......to win.....the game!!"

cryptowonderdruginvogue 04.11.2007 01:05 AM

i dont care much for baseball but i grew up/am friends with both of the older clemens kids (koby and kory). i live a street over from their place. debbie, is a hottie, by the way.

davenotdead 04.11.2007 08:56 AM

is the whole family a pack of gym freaks?

cryptowonderdruginvogue 04.11.2007 02:47 PM

no, kory is kinda lazy

davenotdead 04.12.2007 12:50 AM

ah the black sheep huh....cuz I know Koby is a minor league player right now...and it is well-known that Roger is just a freak...in a good way I suppose as he still has the stuff to play in MLB...

krastian 04.21.2007 12:21 AM

Thank you for bumping my thread.....it means oh so much:p

Fucking Cordero man.....get it together!!! He's killing me in a couple fantasy leagues.

The Birds continue to play solid ball and Payton is back with Ramon to follow....gotta keep the ball rolling. Miggy hasn't even hit for power yet.

A-Rod.....damn, G. Two more blasts tonight.....have him in quite a few leagues that I am slaughtering in as well.

Yankees vs. Red Sox....I hate them both, but their series are always the most fun to watch (switching from the O's game in between innings of course;)). Game was intense as hell tonight as usual.

pantophobia 04.21.2007 12:47 AM

great games tonight, missed the nats win cause i was switching between the end of the sharks and predators game which the sharks won and move to the second round, they can certainly take it late twice into 14th inning this week

but the nats are not gonna overcome the Mets this year, it's too much with em and the Braves, now the Orioles on the other hand, they could make a run, i think they can hang in there, and that is saying a lot in a division with the Yanks , the Sox and the Blue Jays, i think Melvin Mora has turned into the best player on the team and will be the star soon enough once Tejada steps back

i can't hate on the red sox though, as they say "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", love Ortiz, he is the living dominican re-incarnation of Babe Ruth ( i mean it, look at their build and their faces, you'll see it)

it's a nice night when all three teams i like win, that red sox game was awesome, coco crisp over the wall was hi-larious, and el duque falling apart was beautiful, 5 runs in the eighth, that game was won and then it wasn't

krastian 05.12.2007 12:38 AM

Real nice win for the O's tonight in Boston since they always kill us!! Nick had a pretty sick catch AND went 4 for 5. It would be great if we could pull off winning 2 of 3 from the Red Sox.

krastian 07.08.2007 11:54 PM

The Home Run Derby is tomorrow night.....I'm taking Vladimir Guerrero to beat last years winner, Ryan Howard.

Pujols has a shot to win too since he'll actually have some pitches to hit unlike when he's hitting in the pitiful Cardinal lineup.

davenotdead 07.09.2007 03:24 AM

'outfieldsman'...hehe, i had a chuckle, thanks mama...that was cute...they are commonly called 'outfielders'...the guys who play around the bases get the 'man' added, ie-thirdbaseman, etc...
