I always think I like them, until I listen to them, and then I remember I don't really...

They mean a great deal to me, more than any other group. Huge, huge fan.

sonicl was kind enough to send me photos he took of the place, and all of the stuff the fans have left there since. And yes, they do make me happy. They're really one of the few rock bands who bring a genuine smile to my face. I owe them a lot. I basically got into music through them. I am sure I would have caught on eventually, but sometimes I wonder how long it would have taken before it happened, had I not heard their music when I did.

He has some good songs...but he's really repetitive.

John Peel didn't like him because he maintained that Marc changed after he gained notoriety. Said Bolan was a cunt, and Bowie wasn't much more decent.

The original is indeed a classic (as is the Electric Warrior album), but I still like The Power Station version too.

More groups should probably enlist a bongo player. It really shaped their overall sound. Separates them from other bands that were bunched under the glam rock banner. When Mickey Finn died a few years ago, my mom heard about it before I did, and I remember her calling to tell me that it had just been announced on the radio. I was very sad, because that band just hasn't had the best of luck in terms of its members staying alive.

Oh, and when I first started playing the guitar, their songs were always very easy to learn. I mean yes it was repetitive, but the songs are still very distinct to me, but then again I did spend an amazing amount of time listening to this group early on. I can't think of anything else since T. Rex that has really captured my interest in quite the same way. It was immediate and just overwhelming, it took over my whole life at the time.

I can't for the life of me remember how I first heard their music. That period of my life is a blur to me. I do have memories though of listening to Electric Warrior in my dad's apartment, almost immediately after he and my mom split up. I always connect their music (or that album, at least) to my dad moving out. This was some time in junior high, and I just remember feeling really odd because none of my friends had heard of T. Rex. So I started keeping to myself a lot, hahahaha.

And anyone who doesn't take Diesel up on his offer to form a band is delusional. Diesel has great things in store for himself.

As for Bowie, for the longest time the only records of his that really got to me were Hunky Dory, Ziggy, and Aladdin Sane. And then I took a liking to Station To Station, Low, and all of those albums. Hearing Scary Monsters was akin to hearing Ziggy for the first time. I've been stuck on Scary Monsters ever since.

& why I wrote really repetitive..as in too many songs sound too similar...

There is no argument that is valid that would find S-K higher in the rock pantheon than Bowie. Your own rather idiosyncratic leanings are a farce.

But nothing has ever been like hearing The Slider (specifically the song). No Bowie, no nothing. "The Slider" is one of those songs (and I really can't think of another song that has ever done this to me) that made me feel short of breath the first time I heard it.

You're not going to start asking me about every glam record ever made now are you?

that album from the sweet with "ballroom blitz" is quite nice, slade has some good sides too.

Not until Boy George anyway (I know he wasn't glam, but he sure sucked up the image and made it his own). Up to that point it was just pretty straight boys pretending to be gay, even to the point of sucking cock on occasion in Bowie's case.

Anyway, I love 90% of all T. Rex. Tyranosuarus Rex was some of the best psych-folk of it's day, and Electric Warrior is pure genius - all that guitar pop should be. I even like Dandy in the Underworld and think it blows Lets Dance out of the water for a reinvent oneself as a synth new romantic record. I honestly believe that if he hadn't died in that car wreck he could have resisted letting Trent Reznor produce him in the '90s too - Bolan had that rare quality called taste.

Oh, burn.

Though I do think that Bowie was beyond help long before the Trent Reznor fiasco.

I do wonder what would have become of Marc. I feel awful for his son, mostly because he was so small when his dad died, but also because his name is Rolan Bolan.

is that the double edition with the alternative version of the album? i need to get it, i think zinc alloy is wonderful. the slider is probably the best "glam" album ever. i also like all the early tyrannosaurus rex things.

it blows my mind that anyone could not love, and in fact would try and deny the genius of anyone that released a record entitled " a beard of stars" !!!

or an album called "my people were fair and had sky in their hair... but now they're content to wear stars on their brows"

I have Electric warrior but I didn't get into it (I think I prefer Bowie and Roxy Music), I'll give it another listen.

Actually, even worse than Bowie letting Trent try to recreate himself in an older more coke damaged body, is what happened when Reznor "produced" Gary Numan!
