Syd Barrett

Madcap's Last Laugh

10 May 2007 / 19:30
Barbican Hall

Tickets: £15 / 20 / 25

An evening in homage to the eccentric genius of Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett whose creative legacy and quintessential English vocal delivery has proven remarkably influential.

Barrett was an obscure figure whose life-long struggle with mental illness shortened his creative period in music to only 7 years, however during that short time such classics as Arnold Layne and See Emily Play and Floyds first album The Piper at The Gates of Dawn were all written and recorded.

Recently David Bowie, Bobby Gillespie, Brian Eno and Jimmy Page have all paid personal tribute to the 'Crazy Diamond'. This special event curated with Barrett's first producer Joe Boyd features many special guests performing Syd’s songs as well as rare film footage, lighting effects and spoken word.

sonicl 04.03.2007 04:48 PM

I thought Richard Youngs was pretty good at ATP. Totally different to what I expected, but nonetheless good.

But you're right, I'm not sure I'd want to see that performance again.

Toilet & Bowels 04.03.2007 05:04 PM

well for a guy who has such a reputation for his guitar playing (which i've never heard) it seems a waste, so i'd like to hear him play

Toilet & Bowels 05.01.2007 06:39 AM

anybody going to see diamanda then?

sarramkrop 05.01.2007 06:45 AM

I'm tempted but other commitments might get in the way. I am in London for a dirty East London techno night this weekend though. Which makes me a winner. Hooray!

Toilet & Bowels 05.01.2007 02:58 PM

I got bored of London. I'm so clearly better than you.

Porky, Porky, Porky - when will your jealousy cease? There's plenty of mine and Mr & Bowels' arse to go around.

Mr L - Well done! Woo!

Other people - Die.

I was kinda hoping for (positive) rep now. I want to be king of the board for my birthday, while I still have enough short-term memory to remember it. That would be the nicest present I could possibly receive.

SYRFox 05.01.2007 03:38 PM

When is sonicl's birthday already?

sarramkrop 05.08.2007 04:07 AM

I didn't go either. Is a rasclart something similar to a jam rag?
