bumblebees

i like 'em, but there's a weird all black one in my room and it's huge and i'm scared to go in there :(

what shall i do?

sorry about the bumblebee rascism, it's just fear of the unknown

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 07:11 AM

I hate wasps and bees...they are my biggest fear.
I'm not usually one for irrational fears...

cuetzpalin 04.09.2007 07:13 AM

bumblebees can't hurt you, in fact. they don't have any stings:) i think they're cute. at least much more than wasps

it's very bee-shaped, and buzzing alot.... but i don't know.

Wikipedia says:

The European dark bee can be distinguished from other subspecies by their stocky body, abundant thoracal and sparse abdominal hair which is brown and overall dark coloration; in nigra, there is also heavy dark pigmentation of the wings. Overall, when viewed from a distance, they should appear blackish, or in mellifera, rich dark brown. The aggressive feral hybrids with other subspecies can be distinguished by the lighter, yellowish banding on the sides of the abdomen, but this is often difficult. For breeding pure dark bees according to the standard, details of the wing veins are nowadays considered to be the only reliable distinguishing character.

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 07:38 AM

Yeah I never kill insects. It seems so unfair

If I want to restrain a fly or a wasp I spray them with just a little amount of hairspray, it stops they flying around because their wings stick together. you can then pick them up with something and take them outside.

doesn't that render them motionless for life though? resulting in their imminent death anyway?

I wouldnt have thought so. I have observed them for sometime to check that they are okay and they seem to eventually come unglued. The real problem i would imagine is the chemicals. How would your body react to have a huge shower of hairspray sprayed at you? But I figured they would have died quicker if left buzzing round a window for hours on end. It gives them a bit more enjoyable life I suppose.

floatingslowly 04.09.2007 08:53 AM

I say smash it, then smash it again for good measure.

everyone knows that bees are the devil's minions.

ALIEN ANAL 04.09.2007 08:59 AM

do what swa(y) says but just becareful i had a friend that once did that and as he took it out side he was actually lifted up in the air by the bee..it was pretty amazing untill he kept getting higher and higher, we all started to panic and didnt know what to do, 12 days later there was a knock on our door..it was my friend, his clothes were torn and he was holding the blanket in his hands, we brought him inside for some coffee but he barely took a sip.

Just warning you thats all.

Savage Clone 04.09.2007 09:05 AM

Bees are having serious trouble right now with massive population losses.
Bumblebees provide valuable pollination services and these mysterious losses are troubling. I have a friend who is a bee scientist, so I have been hearing about this for quite a while, but even Martha Stewart has been talking about it of late.
My scientist friend will have a book out soon on raising bumblebees for the novice. I did some proofreading/editing for her, and it was interesting and easy to digest for the lay-person.
Bumblebees do have stingers and they don't die after using them like honeybees do.

Pookie 04.09.2007 09:35 AM

We have a bee nesting box in the garden, like this one.

Bees are glorious creatures and will rarely sting. Certainly won't if you leave them alone.

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 09:41 AM

Umm not true I have been stung while i was sat down doing my homework. This bee randomly came along and stung me. I absolutely dispise wasps/bees/bumblebees or even flies that look like bees.

tesla69 04.09.2007 09:41 AM

I started a thread about the vanishing bees recently and got yelled at by the board. What else is new.

Its genetic engineering that is killing the bees. You're children are next! But who cares when there are video games to be played!

I said rarely. Why would they sting for no reason?

sarramkrop 04.09.2007 09:48 AM

I got stung on my bum by one of them because:

1 - I always have the window open and i generally sleep naked.

2 - I was sleeping, and the movements of my body must have antagonized theirs.

Bees are horribly creepy creatures.

Pookie 04.09.2007 09:52 AM

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 09:52 AM

yes Sarramkrop

I leave people alone and I expect them to do the same. I have never once gone near a bee, they have always entered my personal space and stung me. To which case I then have to kill them (one got hit with a pan). See its a matter on action and reaction. If Bees stay the fuck away from me they get to live.

I bet you're a flapper around bees and that's why you get stung.

I've never been stung by a bee, but I don't panic when I see one.

sarramkrop 04.09.2007 09:56 AM

I never ever wanted to go neer a bee and i'll never wish to. To divert the subject (hijack it)a bit, i adore spiders. Who else does?

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 10:02 AM

yeah I have no problem with spiders. I dont flap around bees actually (hehe) I just slowly walk as far away in the opposite as I can. They just have always come into my space without any provocking, thats the annoying part. I never go near their nests (I would understand how that would piss them off) hell I dont even eat honey. There is no damn reason they cant leave me the fuck alone. LOL

I run like a lil' bitch.

then I make my wife kill it.

I AM MAN, HEAR ME WHIMPER.

Washing Machine 04.09.2007 10:16 AM

haha Yeah!

I cant think of another insect or animal I have a problem with. Just Bee type things....the way they move, the sound they make, how they look, just creeps me out. Plus the association with flowers. I hate flowers, they're always too bright, gardens for me are like motionless gay pride parades with flying black and yellow nazis.

I like desolate deserts with cactus...love cactus, my favourite plant.

jon boy 04.09.2007 10:18 AM

go into your room and open the window. it may fly out on its own (you do run the risk of its brethren coming in). if it stays still long enough put a glass on top of it and card over the top and take it outside. dont kill it, especially squash it as that releases scent into the air that attracts other bees. failing that sit in a room rocking backwards and forwards crying saying bee bee bee.

I haven't told you lately how much i love you, but i just did. The only flowers that deserve existence are the ones that aren't smug enough with their own pretitness.

i just coughed a little bit of sick into my mouth then.

sarramkrop 04.09.2007 10:45 AM

Good for you. Choke on it.

I love you too Sarramkrop *hugs* (am i really hugging something? If I was that would be majorly creepy, AM I LYING TO YOU???...sorry just excusing myself for putting actions in ** its a stupid thing to do).

But I too hate people who buy so many plants and make their gardens impossible to stay in without getting attacked by flying nazis. Jesus...I rather live in Death Valley in peace and near death. Fucking British suburbites. I swear the chelsea flower show should be censored due to its offensive nature and destructive influence over little Doris down the road!

lucyrulesok 04.10.2007 04:50 AM

its STILL THERE!

yesterday i just left my window open and went away, hoping he would fly out, and i thought he had. but then i go to get dressed this morning and he is hanging out in my pile of clothes. now i'm scared to get dressed because i can't see where he is anymore.

BEE FEAR!

jon boy 04.10.2007 04:56 AM

i can't go out to buy clothes because i'm not wearing any. the bee has them all. he is parading around my room in my best dress. bastard.

jon boy 04.10.2007 05:02 AM

i like my idea best.

become an eskimo as they dont have any problems with bee's. there is the deadly giant snow wasp which can sting upto 1000 a minute but if you sing to it then it calms down.

Pookie 04.10.2007 05:06 AM

I think you should try singing to it, and hope nobody comes into your room and catches you standing there, naked, singing to your clothes.

lucyrulesok 04.10.2007 05:08 AM

i'm going to try and catch him in a glass.....

if you don't hear from me soon, you'll be receiving a letter from my solicitor!
