Photoshop users
Is there a way to upload new effects on it? Many thanks.
|
Hi.
I never felt the urge to add effects, I just manage to get what I need messing with the built in ones and a bit of creativity... What photoshop version are you working on? And what is/are the effect/s you'd need? Just to get an idea. Regards. Nic. |
Some different type fonts and any other effects that are not already on it. I'm using the 6.0 version.Thanks.

Hmmm, first of all, consider a version upgrade :p !
For the fonts, you just need to download the font files (.ttf , .fon, .ttc) and put them in the Font directory in c:\windows (I'm on a pc with xp, but the same process should work with most win versions), on the next Photoshop startup all the new fonts added should be on the font list. For the effects, I really don't know, my first photoshop version was 7, now I use cs2 but I guess there's a way to add external effects/filters... I'll ask around a bit. Hope this helps. nic |
Which book? The manual? I haven't got one for this version because it's a copy.

Far as effects (filters,etc..) you should be able to just drag and drop whatever downloaded ones you accrue into the plug-ins folder which should be something like c:/windows/program files/adobe/photoshop6/plugins, it has been a while since I've used 6 and also a pc for this so if I'm incorrect, please forgive....

Or get the full (italian) manual here for free:

They're called plugins and if you look on google, you should find countless free ones. Here are a few links where you can start. http://thepluginsite.com/resources/freeps.htm <This one has a lot. http://www.freephotoshop.com/html/downloadables.html http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tools.html http://www.afh.com/web/pshop/free.html etc, etc. Once you download the plugins you want, unzip them (if required), and put them into your photoshop plugin map which is located in Program files/adobe/photoshop/plugins on your computer. Here is a good site with free fonts for pc/mac. http://www.1001freefonts.com/ Again, once you download the fonts you want, unzip them (if required), and put them in your pc's font map and when you open Photoshop, Word, etc, you'll be able to use them. Feel free to pm me for further info. |

i guess im going to just hammer on what you've been told but your fonts are part of your operating system, not photoshop. you simply move your (unzipped) font files into this folder: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts there are many free fonts floating around the web, but those you pay for are usually better quality. as for the plugins, you have thorough instuctions. have fun! |
bah paying for thit, this is the internet.
|
I need to use photoshop instead of the crappy and limited artrage where you can't shrink your brush down far enough...i suppose i should just draw on a huge plane and then reduce the size of the final picture, but then you're only working with sections of the image at a time instead of being able to see it all at once and get back from it...optimally, i'd love to be set up w/ photoshop and a drawing tablet.
i downloaded a copy of adobe photoshop. it was a huge file and I never learned how to use it. I guess I should have burned the data to disc before I trashed it. |
just master the mouse and non blinking
|
Thanks a trillion guys. Sorry, i did mean to call them plug ins put i was trying out some of effects on my synth and i got a little confused. On top of that , the primitive version of photoshop that i have managed to shut down my computer, again. ALIEN ANAL, i'm impressed by your mouse-drawing skills!
|
thanks pork, im not exactly a master of photoshop my self but it would be handy to learn.
|
I'm pretty sure there's many mainly-brush plugins to be found on those sites such as pixel2life.com, but it's been 2 years since I really cared about it.

internet or no internet, real people have to spend a lot of time creating a program or making a good font. the reason free fonts are shittier than paid fonts is because someone has to feed that person the education & trainining it takes to make a quality product. you can probably find a way to steal them, but there was still a cost attached to creating them. |
yeh....but..free stuff

yeah i use free fonts mostly, but if i have to do something commercial where free fonts can't provide what i need, i'm happy to pay for a good font. i would not pay if i only didi this to kill time obviously. but paying... well, pays. |
yes, sir
ill post some tutorials on it when i get back home |

True. No matter how much you try to adjust them, some free fonts can't be kerned very well, and sometimes the whole alphabet looks slick, except for certain letters (usually m's & w's). Designing a perfect font is difficult. It takes a lot of time to get the proportions, style and spacing right. |
I have CS3, and I find the filters are pretty much all I need.

It's not a stupid idea at all. I've done that before, when I wanted to get a certain look. You can make a layer of it, but another option is to select a specific area, in this case a letter, and create a stamp. It depends on what you're more comfortable with. Quote:
Agreed. There are about 100 standard filters that come with photoshop, and they can be combined to create endless new ones. That's one of the many reasons why PS is such a powerful program. On the other hand, if you want to create a chrome look (example), you'll have to take certain steps to get the right effect. That can be time consuming if you have a deadline, and it's easier to just download a second party filter that applies it with one click. |
Hmm yeah that's actually a good point.
