Well it's fairly obvious who is your favourite artist from the Blast First roster, but who is your second favourite?

What are you supposed to choose? Your favorite or second favorite?

Well I'm assuming that everyone's favourite will be Sonic Youth, so I'm asking who everyone's next favourite after SY is.

Mine is Head of David. There's just something about their particular brand of heaviness.

But let's face it, and this is the main reason I've started this thread, didn't Blast First have a fucking brilliant roster in the mid to late 80's?

Butthole Surfers. But then i have a soft spot for Rapeman, Big Black and Pansonic too. It's a difficult poll to vote in, but Butthole Surfers i have played more often than any other band on there.

I voted Rapeman. Simply because it was them or Big Black, and the Rapeman album was the best thing Albini did in the 80s.

I only had Dustbowl by HoD, and if their other stuff was as good, they'd be definite contenders.

I voted for the Buttholes as well. Big Black would be a close second. Is this the right place to say that Paul Smith was a bit of a dodgy geezer, eh?

One example: He re-pressed the "Sound Of Impact" LP without Big Black's permission, and then tried to weasel out of what he did when Albini went ballistic.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I'd exactly call that dodgy, more the act of an overenthusiastic music-fan-turned-record-label-boss who thinks he's doing what's best for the band. It's not really in the Stevo (Some Bizarre) league.

Made one really great 12" then signed to a major (EMI I think) and made some incredibly BAD records.

Oh God, no that fucking waste of space, Stevo! You'll have to excuse me, but I've dealt with him in a professional capacity, and...I'll say no more.

Oh go on, say more. I'm aware of Neubauten's and Coil's troubles with him, but I'd love to hear more of what a little shit he is. PM me if it's libellous. Go on....

Didnt blast first press up the walls have ears without SY's permission? In Paul smiths defence he did it as a 'present' to SY, but they didn't like it and got pissed off with him.

He did, yes.

He also tried to open an office in the US, and financed it by using royalties that were due to BF acts.

Regarding Stevo, whilst his tales would amuse many people, they just end up angrying up my blood. And, uh, work reasons.
