No Logo
Have you read it? I'm starting it tonight. I already read a book on the opposing view of it (The Rebel Sell), so I'd like to see how the views contrast.

What is it about? I'm not up on "literature."
|
I'd like to read it. I have a few books like it I want to read, as well. The Corporation seems interesting.
I've just finished the Communist Manifesto, which I'm sure ties in in many ways... |
no logo isn't really a communist book, it points out certain short falls and bugbears in the capitalist system. the communist manifesto is an analysis of how captialism works, how it will end and what will replace it.
|
I read it, but found it quite boring after all.
|
I read No Logo but found nothing that a regular read of a newspaper and some common sense wouldn't have told me anyway.
Rebel Sell is much better but, again, anyone wandering into an Applestore or a Virgin Megastore will already know the score. And if anything, it's even more smug than No Logo. Not an easy feat to achieve. |

the communist manifesto is just a manifesto-- a pamphlet, propaganda, a paternalistic glorification of the middle ages during a time when industrialism was brutal. its not really an analysis. for that, read das kapital-- & good luck staying awake  |
I've seen people reading "No Logo" in Starbucks. Irony, anyone?
|
I read most of No Logo. Quite a good read.. unfortunately I suck at finishing books.

The real issue here is what YOU were doing in Starbucks? You iron-hearted child of Adam Smith, you! |
maybe he saw them through the window
|
People at Starbucks THINK they are on the other side, and they never realize they are just supporting the latest rising corporate conglomeration racing with the others to see who can gain greatest control over our minds first :)
|
The sentiments behind it are good, but the only problem is that it makes good points while confusing others.
|
demonrail666 - Me, I was demanding that an underpaid Polish employee serve me my latte double quick, whilst I looked out the window to sneer at some peasants and throw peanuts at some anti-capitalists. I truly am the bitch of Adam Smith and Morton Friedman.

haha had to laugh. |
i read it in high school. It was interesting.
|
Has anyone read the book she wrote after No Logo? I forget what it's called. Haven't read it myself, just wondering.

Ah, the one I was actually thinking of was the Fences and Windows one. Have you read that?

Repping you if I can. The Rebel Sell really does go into a lot of material that I have already noticed No Logo doesn't cover. Especially how they expose how hypocritical it is that she lives in a loft and is so against consumerism. Lots of very good points made in it, especially by mentioning that by boycotting consumerism as a whole, just leaves your money to be spent by someone else. I'm sort of having the backwards approach by reading No Logo AFTER Rebel Sell. Quote:
Haha, true. Although Starbucks DO purchase fair trade coffee now (you have to ask for it). Starbucks still remains a chain though, so it has a single CEO grabbing tonnes of undeserved cash. Bridgehead is where it's at. http://www.bridgehead.ca/ |
no I havent
