Recommend me some music to cook food to

I need some suggestions for music to listen to while I'm preparing and cooking food. Nothing that's going to get me dancing around the room, and nothing that's going to send me into a trance, or else the dinner will never get cooked.

atsonicpark 05.08.2007 09:07 AM

there is a cock esp side project, i think it's called "cullinators" or something ridiculous......... anyway, it's like an hour of them making food. that's it.

uhh, but if you want a real reccomendation.......... drive like jehu - yank crime. during rome plows, you can bash some eggs. during do you compute, you can grease the bacon. during new math, you're going to be putting pepper and salt on everything (in 5/4, 7/4, and back to 3/4). by sinews, your dinner better be amazing.

Bomb 20's 'Flip Burgers Or Die'.

atsonicpark 05.08.2007 09:15 AM

also

mr. bungle - disco volante

you won't trance or dance. it'll make you FOCUS!

Nick Cave is good for cooking or washing up I find.

I was playing Rapeman last night whilst cleaning the kitchen, that worked out well.

I usually listen to the radio in the kitchen though. During the day I flick between Radios 3 & 4. Night time it's Radcliffe & Maconie.

sarramkrop 05.08.2007 09:18 AM

Resonancefm is fine for most daily activities, particularly the hoovering and to clean up the bathroom.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.08.2007 09:19 AM

Here are some things I've listened to recently while cooking:

a Replacements mix I made
Pavement- Wowie Zowie
Happy Go Licky- Will Play
Velvet Underground- Velvet Underground

nicfit 05.08.2007 09:33 AM

Psapp

atsonicpark 05.08.2007 09:34 AM

yeah but if you listen to psapp, you might think someone is playing with toys in the next room.. might be distracting.

I forgot to mention, I'm vegetarian, so bear that in mind before making any suggestions. No Meat Puppets please, and no Caught With The Meat In Your Mouth by The Dead Boys.

nicfit 05.08.2007 09:40 AM

So, "Meatlof" is off the list...

atsonicpark 05.08.2007 09:43 AM

what about the sloppy meateaters?

...

okay, listen to the smiths - meat is murder. problem solved.

What about Cowboy Junkies? They're not far off from being the musical equivalent of being a vegetarian.

I started off listening to French African football songs, but they had me dancing around the kitchen, so I switched to Glenn Branca, which was far more productive. I cooked vegetarian chilli.

I must check out Kegma's 80s mix though, if I can find it.

Toxa 05.10.2007 08:32 AM

porno for pyros. both albums :)

pokkeherrie 05.10.2007 08:52 AM

I like to listen to happy uplifting stuff when in the kitchen/cooking.
The mafia songs of Il canto di Malavita were a kitchen favourite for me for a long time, not necessarily for pastas only... I don't understand Italian lyrics anyway, so it was all cheerful to me. The Ethiopiques series works well for the kitchen too. Also, any old soul music is nice.

PAULYBEE2656 05.10.2007 09:09 AM

i cooked a kick ass italian pasta tomoato concoction with freshly grilled sardines last nite and the soundtrack was radioheads hail to the theif.... the tomatoes were delicatly caressed by the dressing and the pasta was perfectly al dente and the sardines were slightly paranoid!

If you cooked wjilst listening to stereolab, your mind would probably wander off and it would start a kitchen fire!

Think of the wacked-out shizzy you'd cook to Acid Mothers Temple.
