Bands you listen to once a year.

stuff you hear every 12 months or so instead of once a week, month, etc.

for me it's the misfits and pixies.

Sonic Youth

Bicorn Halfelven 06.19.2007 07:14 PM

The Specials, Selector and all that 2tone stuff. I like it, but I can't stand ska if I hear it too much

Humans are not designed for obscene amounts of ska.

Danny Himself 06.19.2007 07:19 PM

I'll flirtate with the Smashing Pumpkins a couple of times a year when the mood strikes. Same for Nirvana, and I suppose all the other bands I was into around the 11/12 age. I listened to NOFX this year because of ripchord.

k-krack 06.19.2007 07:19 PM

Lots of the old punk-rock I used to be way into gets a spin every once in a while...
For example, listened to Combat Rock from the Clash the other day for the first time in years... and I was so disappointed... Luckily I listened to London Calling not TOO long ago, and that album is fucking great. BUt... yeh... Combat Rock... umm...
The Ramones, Sex Pistols... maybe even like ..the Raveonettes (unrelated, but even though I like them, I don't listen to them often).

Honestly, I've gotten pretty over the Punmpkins.
I guess they can be in this list too, 'cos I rarely listen to them... if I do, it's probably just Siamese Dream, because Mellon COllie is pretty much 3/4 crap.

Try listening to some decent ska and you'll probably feel differently.

You'll be saying Madness next!

Bicorn Halfelven 06.19.2007 07:36 PM

I've sold most of my ska/reggae/dancehall off years ago, and only kept the stuff that I really enjoyed. Used to have lots of first wave jamaican reissues, ska-punk, trad stuff, a lot of the releases on Moon Ska, and other labels.

I still find the Selecter to be one of my faves.

SynthethicalY 06.19.2007 08:20 PM

Nirvana, Velvet Underground, I think those are the only two, if not I can't think of many right now.

pbradley 06.19.2007 08:33 PM

Led Zeppelin, Tool, Bob Dylan, Pixies, Radiohead

But I usually listen to them a lot went it's their time of the year.

Everyneurotic 06.19.2007 08:56 PM

i usually listen to them for a solid week, then it's until next year.

because of this, i haven't gotten around to buying anything but death to the pixies, which is what i listen to, both cds.

i don't need to listen to the misfits or the pixies for about 2 or 3 years cuz i've heard that shit too many times :)

I still love the Clash. These days I'm even quite enjoying the latter day Clash.

I think the Clash have a whole different feel to them when you're older. When you're young you love them for the "fuck you" factor in their simplicity, but when you get older you appreciate them for the beauty in their simplicity. They're one of them bands that say alot with using very little. That's a gift indeed.

Same.

_slavo_ 06.20.2007 02:15 AM

Radiohead.
and all the electronica stuff as Autechre, Boards of Canada, Arovane, Lusine etc. (due to nostalgic reasons)

Norma J 06.20.2007 02:31 AM

Jeff Buckley is probably one of them artists that I love but only listen to in periods of the year, but alot within them periods. Mostly in winter.

Trasher02 06.20.2007 03:33 AM

Post rock stuff like Mono and explosions in the sky. It kinda gets boring real fast...

And Dinosaur Jr.

youthoftomorrow 06.20.2007 05:16 AM

the Misfits. typically only worth listening to in October, however, they have been getting some play this week for reasons i still don't understand.

Yeah, maybe because those two bands are on the "boring" side of post-rock highway.

Glice 06.21.2007 06:45 AM

I have about a week of noise every so often - gets on my wick otherwise - and I generally listen to the complete works of the Beatles one day a year to try and get what the fuss is. Still don't get it, probably due another bash soon. Otherwise, I generally try to get rid of records that I don't listen to very often, unless it's something that one simply shouldn't listen to too often (Arvo Part's Miserere, for instance).

auto-aim 06.21.2007 08:56 AM

What, like Slade?

I only listen to them at christmas and you know, it's not out of choice.

haha, glice, you don't get what the fuss with the beatles is?

I'm not a huge beatles fan or anything, but man.. they really did lots of crazy new experimental things.. surely you can recognize that.. heheh.

Everyneurotic 06.21.2007 05:36 PM

can you imagine going "it's april the 30th, it's that time of year i listen to the beatles' discography to see if they can make an impression on me"

*12 hours later*

"no, it's still boring wankers' toss"

Yeah, I can't see that at all in the slightest. If people liked them just for being a band it would make a bit more sense. It sounds, to me, like everything they stole but worse.

luxinterior 06.24.2007 10:30 AM

Sometimes I like Beatles songs when other people are singing them.

Pm me if you want a list of people who were more innovative than
The Beatles, but don't get the same amount of praise that they do.
