Bands with 'Noise Guitarists?'

Think Kim's guitar part on Dripping Dream or Rats...

Any bands out there who utilize 'noise' guitarists?

Ie guys or girls who improv over songs and create wailing screeching guitar feedback fuzz to overlay over an otherwise quite melodic piece?

If so...

Recommend?

pretty much anyone who uses an electric guitar and creates feedback or static noise!

atsonicpark 06.24.2007 06:41 AM

i was the noise guitarist in RUINHORSE
oddly, on the mindless self indulgence song "Faggot", there is someone credited as playing "Noise guitar"...

Varge! http://www.myspace.com/varge (they have one song, it's got an acoustic baritone part, and on top of it is this fucking beautiful, soaring, screaming, shapeless, catastrophic guitar part... one of their best.)

oh that mindless self indulgence. giving mall goths a reason to live.

Norma J 06.24.2007 10:53 PM

"Faggot" is the worst idea for a song name possible.

atsonicpark 06.25.2007 10:08 AM

besides korn - faget?

msi - tight is a great disc. nothing else sounds like it.

val-holla-ing 06.25.2007 10:09 AM

it was interesting to me back in 2000ish, but now, it sounds dated and convoluted...but still really shiny.

atsonicpark 06.25.2007 10:30 AM

it's a good disc.

i don't like anything they did after that (frankenstein girls is just annoying and everything after that is just progressively godawful). but damn.. tight was dirty and had some really insane processed guitar tones.. jesus. saw them live a long time ago with tub ring and sump pumps (who are great! you know the man or astroman songs on experiment zero with the vocals? they sound like that! but with video game synths!). was great.

edit: The dudes from Arab On Radar lay it down with the non-improv noise guitar; I think we could all learn something from the way they play.

kaito had a great noise guitarist called Dave. You could never hear hin too well on their records, but live he was something else!

Everyneurotic 06.25.2007 08:28 PM

oh i love frankenstein girls..., most of it anyway, it's kinda long; but it's really cool and funny, good songs in there.

of their latter stuff, alienating our audience is fairly decent and their cover of tom sawyer is fantastic.

atsonicpark 06.25.2007 10:28 PM

actually, alienating our audience has the best guitar sound i've ever heard, especially for a live album.

frankenstein girls had a few jams, i liked it back in the day, but.. now it just annoys me.

tight's my shit! (i own an actual copy)

(i also have a bunch of msi stickers and frankenstein girls masks -- little cardboard masks with frankenstein girls faces that were used for msi promos -- and i have bitches/molly single and alienating our audience, actual copies yeah)

but yeah, i heard the last ep they did, the hot topic exclusive one and it was just terrible.. ugh.:)

i hate their ironic use of the "n-word", but damn if their cover of 'bring the pain' wasn't great. AOA was good, but after that, it all went downhill for them.

kudos for actually having a copy of tight.

Everyneurotic 06.25.2007 11:22 PM

yeah, i had a friend who was the biggest msi fan ever and i once told her i saw a copy of tight but i wasn't so into them then so i passed on it, and she nearly strangled me for telling her that.

i saw little jimmy urine at ozzfest '04, he hung a bit on the soundboard and then left somewhere.

they are amazing doing covers actually.

PAULYBEE2656 06.26.2007 06:47 AM

three words.....

THE,
FLYING,
LUTTENBACHERS....

recent stuff anyway

atsonicpark 06.26.2007 09:58 AM

haha. yeah. i've wanted to sell it for years, but the disc is kinda scratched. the packaging alone would net me.. a few bucks.

i know a dude who actually owns the panty shot/bring the pain tape, and i used to chat with a girl on irc who sent me pics of her holding the self-titled cd.. crazy. that thing goes for like $300-400.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 06.26.2007 10:03 AM

unwound, any one?

ArthurDoyleHandCream 02.10.2008 02:46 AM

Every now and then Ira Kaplin of Yo La Tengo can rip out some pretty great noise guitar.

Glice 02.10.2008 05:18 AM

One of the things I really like about Les Rallizes Denudes is that the songs, save for the guitar parts, are pretty standard and there's these 'solos' which just tear open your face.

Death & the Maiden 02.10.2008 07:34 PM

The guitar on Pavement's Summer Babe (Winter Version). I don't know if it's done by Spiral Stairs or Stephen Malkmus.
