The Whitehouse appreciation / loathing thread

Anyone else here a fan of Messrs Bennett and Best, or can't you stand them? As my friends wearily know, I can waffle on for ages about Whitehouse if prompted. Their current album ("Racket") is another work of excellence. So what say you?

sonicl 07.06.2007 03:54 AM

I've managed to live forty years without every having heard anything by Whitehouse. What I've heard about them has always ben enough to put me off trying.

pbradley 07.06.2007 03:59 AM

I'm a big fan of the White House. God save the union!

demonrail666 07.06.2007 04:31 AM

Melly wants to burn me some Whitehouse, I say 'nooo, nooo, nooo'

Toilet & Bowels 07.06.2007 06:50 AM

i've seen them twice and they were fantastic both times, i saw consumer electronics recently and they were damned good too. i've never heard their records though, i keep meaning too.

Onani Nic 07.06.2007 07:00 AM

I keep meaning to get Racket, it's damn expensive when converted to Australian $$$. Great band I think.

Everyneurotic 07.06.2007 10:14 AM

lately, i like sutcliff jügend better. whitehouse is too samey.

very important band and good, though.

tesla69 07.06.2007 10:28 AM

inrelentingly boring and dull and antilife.

Onani Nic 07.06.2007 09:24 PM

From the few tracks I've heard of Whitehouse related projects (ramleh, sutcliff jügend, consumer electronics) they sound as good, maybe better than whitehouse. Really need to track down some of their stuff.

HaydenAsche 07.06.2007 09:36 PM

Whitehouse is pretty fucking cool, man. Consumer Electronics is better, though.

demonrail666 07.06.2007 10:05 PM

in all seriousness, can you tell the difference between those bands?

HaydenAsche 07.06.2007 10:16 PM

Good point. Consumer Electronics are just more consistently interesting. Some Whitehouse stuff is pretty yawn-worthy.

Everyneurotic 07.06.2007 10:27 PM

ohh man, have you heard the new sutcliff album? they reinvent power electronics.

lowlife 07.07.2007 12:32 PM

Birth/Death Experience must have blown minds when it came out. I tend to lean towards their older material but haven't heard the new one yet.. The 'extreme' comps put out by Susan Lawly are amazing listens also.

Phlegmscope 07.07.2007 01:23 PM

I only have Twice is not enough, which I find good, but I'd imagine they've put out better stuff too.

I like the fact that these guys come across as ordinary looking middle aged blokes, but their musical output and imagery is horrifyingly offensive. adds a lot to the perversity level. yes!

Savage Clone 07.07.2007 01:27 PM

Bennett has worked with and given some nice exposure to my friend Dolores Dewberry. I like Whitehouse OK, but my fascination with them was relatively short-lived and ended about 13 years ago. I think a band like this needs to exist, but I'm not all that into listening to it anymore.

Glice 07.08.2007 12:13 PM

I have about 10 minutes every year and a half or so when Whitehouse are the single greatest thing ever. The rest of the time I just can't be arsed. Saw them in London a few years ago and I was bemused and bored.

Nope, it was one of their own shows... they played at Slimelight the night after, can't remember where the gig was, somewhere 'ackney ways.

stu666 11.26.2009 05:36 AM

need to check 'em out

atsonicpark 11.26.2009 05:38 AM

^^^ This picture came up when I typed in "kristin davis farting" into google image search.

Skuj 11.26.2009 11:34 AM

I love what WH does. Mummy And Daddy fucking blows me away every time I hear it. It IS "difficult" music, just as Night + Fog is difficult (yet essential) viewing. WH is neccessary.

The early stuff, Birthdeath, Erector etc....it's dark ambient. Not extreme noise. WH has gone through many different styles. I like the last couple of releases. Looks like Best is out now, and WB is doing something Whitehouse.....can't wait to see what he comes up with.

A Thousand Threads 11.26.2009 11:42 AM

I only have Birthdeath Experience but rarely listen to it.
Got a few other albums on MP3 I never listened to so far.

not that interesting of a band to me

Gulasch Noir 11.29.2009 05:49 PM

I listened to Bird Seed and Great White Death the other day. I'm Comin' up your ass!! Great

Skuj 11.29.2009 10:57 PM

I've often thought that WH had the balls to do songs that we dare not even imagine. Or maybe, we DO think about such songs, we conjure up some dark vile things in our dirty minds.....and WH says "fuck it, here it is then." They shine a light onto a very dark corner that is there! No pretending that the world isn't fucked or evil at times. No hiding or sweeping things under the carpet. No Celine Dion here. This is raw, pure and scary shit.....and it fucking blows me away. When WB screams "I'm coming up your ass", you know you've wanted to sing that song before. You know you like it.

So there.

Two very different albums from different eras. It took me a while to "appreciate" GWD. Seemed too literal or wankery at first. Then it hit me. Oh how it fucking hit me.

I had this ten minutes about half and hour ago. Consistency, yeah!

Toilet & Bowels 11.11.2010 12:59 PM

When did you see them and find them boring?

Glice 11.11.2010 01:33 PM

Fucking hell, I reckon that was 7 or 8 years ago now.

Toilet & Bowels 11.11.2010 03:54 PM

Which venue? I'm wondering if I was at the same show.

Glice 11.11.2010 04:30 PM

Uh... somewhere in the east end. They were headlining, Consumer Electronics played as well. Small place. I don't remember seeing anything else there. No use, sorry.

I do prefer sutcliff to whitehouse but i still love whitehouse.

the ikara cult 02.26.2011 09:46 PM

they dont do gigs anymore right?
anyway, i feel i should register my support, if you listen to their stuff with headphones on they make some pretty nice stereo sounds combined with the hateful ranting.

the ikara cult 06.30.2011 11:59 AM

MELHOUSE - DEDICTED TO M GIBSON

Gave me a chuckle

The Watcher 06.30.2011 01:28 PM

I have Birthdeath Experience and Great White Death, not bad, but when it coems to that early industrial stuff I much prefer TG, SPK, NWW's early stuff, Sutcliffe Jugend, MB..... I'm not put off by his works intent, I am just somewhat ambivalent - that being said I don't think it's bad......
