Las fucking Vegas

I was there over the weekend for the first time. This city is off the chain. I still have mixed feelings about it, I had a great time and all, but it was sort of over the top, and ridiculous and stupid. It seemed like an excuse for people to indulge in things they would never dare do at home, at outrageous prices.
And maybe thats the point, but if thats what they want to do, why not do it ALL the time? Obviously if you get off on anonymous sex, drinking all day, and wasting money you shouldn't let your location keep you from being happy right?

The global feel of the city was interesting I met people from a lot of different places, and they all seemed to wonder if this is what America is really about. I'm not even sure if this is what America is about...weird place.

Anyone else get this feeling in Las Vegas?

Anyone who is driving to Las Vegas from the East should take I-70 through Colorado, unreal!!!

i'm all about vegas, and the only one of those things i indulge in is the wasting of money. there is something electrifying about las vegas, a weird energy that somehow makes you want to eat dinner at 3 a.m. and not be tired even though it's really 6 a.m. in ny. no matter how many times you see the strip lit up at night on tv, nothing compares to the real thing. i love it. can't wait to go back.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.02.2006 07:36 PM

I would totally go back. And you're right there is an energy in Vegas that is sort of unmatched. But you must have impulses to eat at 3am, or stay up late no matter where you are at some time.

You're right though, there is no knowledge of time in Las Vegas which was very amusing

youthoftomorrow 05.02.2006 07:39 PM

where did you stay?

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.02.2006 07:41 PM

Harrahs.

All the time? Isn't the point of Las Vegas to spend those two or three days having your fun, and then return to your normal life? Plus most don't make the money to gamble ALL the time. They could blow a week's paycheck once or twice a year, but not something they can on a daily basis. For me Vegas is fun, but not when gambling is the main focus. Spend tickets on a show, or a concert at one of the hotels first, at least then you're going to get your money's worth.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.02.2006 07:56 PM

Right a vacation. Maybe you're missing my point, I'm talking about doing things you would otherwise consider deviant. Seeing a show or going to a concert is not deviant. Unless its a Poison reunion tour....

i must admit to indulging in deviant behavior!!! though not in vegas....

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.02.2006 08:02 PM

And you admit it. Thats sad.

LifeDistortion 05.02.2006 08:03 PM

Well isn't "The Bunny Ranch", the famous brothel, in Nevada?

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.02.2006 08:07 PM

I'm not familiar with that.

According to HBO.

EyeballGrowth 05.03.2006 12:52 AM

las vegas is the most uninteresting, boring, superficial, tedious waste of time on the planet. It is NOT fun, unless you enjoy gambling, being an idiot, paying lots of money to act like an idiot, and watching other sad individuals pay shitloads of money to booze their asses off and act like idiots and get arrested for it. Go someplace else to do something fun, anywhere is better than Vegas. Even LA is better than Vegas. I've been there and it is a boring, expensive shithole. Keyword BORRRRRING

I know, man. I love that drive.

Hmm. It appears from this thread that I don't have the money to be with my kindred spirits in Las Vegas baby. Someone load me a fiddy' (or whatever you curious Americans say). I want the booze and money and inadvisable sex. And a fucking big cigar as well. Down with indie kids! Up with wasters with too much money!

truncated 05.03.2006 11:29 AM

It is a prerequisite to have overly large sunglasses to legally walk the Vegas strip.

Rob Instigator 05.03.2006 11:37 AM

I went to Vegas about 3 years ago. I had been as a kid with my folks on a roadtrip befor ethat.

Vegas is expensive, unnecesarily expensive.
Vegas is BORING AS FUCK.
I do not drink (cheeba cheeba y'all) and therefore 90% of the activities in Vegas are moot. Gambling is boring. I can lose about $20.00 before I freak out and start to wonder why the fuck I am giving Mafia fucks-gone-"legit" my money.
I stayed at the Golden Nugget, which was very very nice. I toured all the big casinos, and saw the bastard fake opulence known as the Bellagio. Vegas during the daytime ....you can really see what it is. It is fucking Disneyworld. It is fucking six flags, with everything from the rirdiculously priced beverages (non-alcoholic. a 20 oz bottle of water from a machine costs $2.50, and there are NO machines, because they want you to buy your drinks in the casino itself, and thereby, get you to gamble some of your money away.) to stupid over-the top flash and pomp, to the stucco terribly done, near chuck R cheese quality of all the decorations.
I had fun when I went, but mainly because the nugget was anice place, and the buffett there was outstanding ($7.00)
I looked in the phone book for a record store and found one near UNLV and went to it and it sucked. I found one good record.
honestly, if you do not love to drink, then there is no reason to go to Vegas.

the restaurants are ridiculosuly overpriced. the shows are SICK overpriced. a floorshow at a casino with some weak-ass B-level star from yesteryear starts at $100 a TICKET!
the "good" shows (wayne newton, danny gans, sigfried and roy, celine dion) run from $150-$300 for a show, more if you include dinner with it.
it was interesting to see pimps in high end japanese imports pulling up to the Nugget and dropping off opr picking up barbie doll hookers.
I just felt so sad there, watching these people chase after a pot of gold and just emptying their money into these casinos.
I did find a place with cool naked lady playing cards, full action ones, pussy all in your face and puckered assholes and stuff. I bought a bunch for our friends and found it is near impossible to play cards with a naked lady deck.

in other words, FUCK VEGAS

Glice 05.03.2006 11:37 AM

Oh, I really hate those. Really hate them. They're fine if you're cool enough, but sooooo many people with those ridiculous aviator sunglasses on lately. It ruins all the mystique of being that freak with the absurd glasses.

truncated 05.03.2006 11:46 AM

Only when they are paired with a blazer of a nauseating green color do they truly realize their fashion potential.

EyeballGrowth 05.03.2006 02:40 PM

God all these stupid idiots who think they're Hunter S. Thompson in vegas.

I identify much with Rob the Investigator. I don't drink or gamble which is one of the reasons it's boring to me. For the record. I'm 22, I've been to vegas, and it IS boring as hell. Fuck Vegas, ANY place is better than vegas. Hell, drive north to Groom Lake and try to storm the gates and get tazered and arrested. Still more fun than vegas

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.03.2006 04:03 PM

You all are dead on with the prices, its totally uncalled for and quite annoying when its 90 out in the middle of a desert and you're thristy as all hell, when finally you find a place that has water and they want to charge you $5.75 for a bottle of water. WTF?

Rob Instigator 05.04.2006 09:28 AM

the last time I went it was 116 degrees fahrenheit during the day

and fuck people telling you it is a "dry" heat. heat is heat and quite unbearable.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.04.2006 03:30 PM

There IS a difference between dry heat and humid heat! It was in the 90s the entire time I was there, and I didn't break a sweat. If it has been that hot here (Bugaha) I would have been sweating my balls off. Humidity makes a big difference.

You should know what I mean, with you being in Houston.

Rob Instigator 05.04.2006 03:55 PM

I do! I meant 115 degree heat! That shit is evil deadly!

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.04.2006 03:57 PM

That is pretty hot. Can't say I've ever been in 115 degree heat. Least, not that I can think off. If heat index counts, probably. SCORCHER!

Get used to it, eh?

Angel Dust 05.05.2006 03:49 AM

Being that I turn 21 in couple weeks, I am thinking about going there soon. I live in L.A., which is somewhat close and I have never been. I like the idea of a sleazy city, so I definitely want to head there sometime this year.
