What are you listening to in hip hop?

As of late whatever cranks in the shop. The new Marco Polo is good from what I've heard & so is the Evidence but as far as buying new music I have to go with the new Sean Price-Jesus Price SuperStar or Joel Ortiz- The Bodega Chronicles. Next purchase is the MM Food rerelease with DVD & new tracks, I already have the promo poster & sticker wich are kick ass. Aside from alll that I don't think anything else worth buying is coming out.

Basically, I'm catching up on the Native Tongues Posse. Del La Soul, Mos Def, Talib Kweli... as much "white suburbanite-friendly" alternative rap as I have time to find.

ScreamingSchool 07.19.2007 08:18 PM

I've been listening to Kool Keith's Nogatco Rd. album. That and some MF Doom. Hey check this one out by D'Mite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWqa7cbdOC8

atsonicpark 07.19.2007 09:36 PM

The only thing I've listened to in hip hop at all in the past few years is stuff like Busdriver and Anticon stuff... typical I guess, but it interests me..

I didn't know about this!! I need that DVD.

pretty much, all I've been listening to lately is MF Doom.

Operation: Doomsday, Doomilation and Vaudeville Villian (under Viktor Vaughn) are my favorites. I just got MM Food and MM Leftovers this week and they are starting to grow on me too.

although I'm pretty obsessed with MF Doom right now, I've also been listening to De La Soul's The Grind Date and Stakes is High.

please, Great Spirit, I beg of you....find a way to get me into Rock the Bells and I promise You that we will be best friends for life.

Bicorn Halfelven 07.19.2007 11:39 PM

The new Monche record was a little disppointing, but still better than most of what's been coming out lately.

I just discovered the Psycho Realm album the other day... a friend of mine and I were talking about our love of Muggs' beats... 'specially around the Black Sunday and Temples of Boom era. He sent me the record, and I'm digging it pretty hard. BReal is on at least half the tracks, and the Muggs production is dope as fuck.

Get that shit if you don't have it.

I love the new dizzie rascal, especially the track with UGK.

Disgruntled Youth 07.21.2007 01:02 PM

The new Pharohe is ok it's better than anything else that has come out. The MM Food is nicely sealed in silver cellophane & it smells like chocolate. Mr. Nogatco Octagon backwards for those who didn't know is awesome I love that album but da new Octo sucks in my opinion. I got to see Cunninliynguist perfom as a opening for Devin The Dude which was great. Devins latest is nothing to sneer @ either it's about blazing, hoe's & money that shit is awesome. Da new Common tracks are dope fuckin gritty & the new Talib is hot as well, it also has tracks with U.G.K. We get shit in advance @ the shop or somehow it leaks & we get it. Also the Dj. Premier James Brown mixtapes are bangin!!! to hot for squares. Zeph & Azeem's new effort is not all that & The KRS & Marley Marl Joint is tough old school KRS...

Green Magnesium 07.21.2007 01:22 PM

Infectious Organisms.

I only discovered this band a couple years back, and they remain my favorite Hip Hop artists. Damn them for only releasing two albums. :(

I have not heard the new Octagon album. I've still been collecting his work but I think it can be argued that Keith has fallen off since the original Octagon/Dooom/Black Elvis era. Still, there's some gems in the later works like Spankmaster and Lost Masters, stuff like that. I kind of feel that if it doesn't have Dan the Automator on it, it ain't Dr. Octagon. But I'm sure I'll get a copy of the new octagon album eventually.

Onani Nic 07.22.2007 10:14 AM

I bought Geto Boys- We Can't Be Stopped (Chopped and Screwed) for $3. Some great tunes on this one: Fuck A War, Mind Playing Tricks On Me, I Ain't a Gentlemen.

Inhuman 07.22.2007 10:29 AM

Nice, I never knew they had a chopped and screwed album

I agree to an extent Keith doesn't need Dan he just needs tight production. His Deisel Truckers album is dope & it's Kut Master on productions, Nogatco is Awesome & Iz Real is working the board. So really I leave shit up to Keith himself & what he feels. Ultra/Octo/Dooom is a dope live set pick that up it comes with a dvd of the concert.

Where where where did you get this??? Jealous. Geto Boyz are just the best, grim as hell but it manages to be funny.
If you havent heard it, get their major label self titled album on Asylum. Better production than most of thier stuff, but it was so obscene that the label buried it and kicked em off thier contract. It really is grotesquely filthy. Best tracks are 'Let a Ho be a Ho' and 'Fuck 'Em', which is a the best song to let rip to when you're having a shit life. 'Fuck 'Em, Fuck 'Em All, F-F-F-Fuck Fuck 'Em All'.
Also get hold of some Immortal Technique. Heard an album round at my mates, it was brill. Rapping about brocolli heads gets my vote.:D

Since Friday night I've revived my love for Wu-Tang Clan (well, to be honest, the first album only).

The Blue Scholars are so tight. The Long March EP is such a masterpiece. They played at my school this year - a friend of mine and I interviewed them beforehand.

It was amazing. They are amazing.

Anyway, I'm also digging the sultry sounds of Blackalicious and Black Star.

The first cd is all James Brown & the Second is in the same musical order as the first but all the hip hop artist who've sampled JB. It's quite the treat & it was broadcasted on Xm or Sirious radio which suprised me cause I didn't know he had a radio show.

The new Doom is dope it comes with a tour poster different than the promo & the sticker is different as well. I got doudle one for the sealed & one for the open & I'll tell yah about the dvd tomorrow.
