What's your favourite Neil Young album ?

No poll as there are many more than 10 records.

Mine is Tonight's the night. What's yours ?

Rob Instigator 07.23.2007 03:03 PM

LIVE RUST

not a proper album per se, but my all time neil young fave

gmku 07.23.2007 03:08 PM

Best album cover ever an all (what the hell is that font??):

gmku 07.23.2007 03:38 PM

It's superlative, cover, lettering, music, everything.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.23.2007 03:41 PM

I really like mirror ball.

sonicl 07.23.2007 03:43 PM

Not very original, I know, but it contains a lot of songs that I love.

gmku 07.23.2007 03:43 PM

Re On the Beach, the font is Stoned Outtamagord Serif.

k-krack 07.23.2007 03:49 PM

Live Rust rules, I'm with you Rob.
Ragged Glory also kicks ass, as far as I remember.

gmku 07.23.2007 03:51 PM

Oh yeah. Forgot about Ragged Glory. It's great, too, a close second to OTB.

hotbutterknives 07.23.2007 04:07 PM

harvest....without...a..doubt

gmku 07.23.2007 04:11 PM

why...do...you...do...that...?

I have to say OnThe Beach then Harvest & then Tonight's the Night

_tunic_ 07.23.2007 04:29 PM

It's all one song!

it totally depends on my mood what album I like best, but it's often After The Gold Rush or Weld. It used to be Live Rust for years, but sadly I've listened to it so much that I don't enjoy it as much anymore. I just bought the Massy Hall CD, it's amazing, and the DVD as well!

reppppp'd couldn't have puit it better myself

Moshe 07.24.2007 03:46 AM

Live rust for me with ragged glory coming second. On the beach make me too depressed.

pbradley 07.24.2007 04:29 AM

I grew up listening to After the Goldrush and Harvest. So those.

NWRA 07.24.2007 01:04 PM

On The Beach for me too. I love every song, although Ambulance Blues is my favourite. I don't find the album as depressing as Tonight's The Night. It begins with Walk On which sounds like a song about coming out of depression to me. Perhaps its more bitter than anything...

Followed by all of the obvious ones from the 70s and from the late '80s to early '90s mini revival (Freedom to Sleeps With Angels).

gmku 07.24.2007 01:05 PM

On the Beach is nicely understated but has an edge.

SuperCreep 07.25.2007 05:55 AM

On the Beach, though I could easily pick about seven or eight more.

Norma J 07.25.2007 06:16 AM

After the Goldrush. Grew up one that fantastic tape.

zedius 08.01.2007 10:34 AM

Harvest, but I've only heard that and Rust Never Sleeps so far.

I'm worried that Neil Young is very very good sometimes, and very very mediocre other times. Is this true? What are his more consistant albums?

I also really really really like "Shots" off Re-ac-tor, but the album sounds crazy. Does anyone have it and love it?

terminal pharmacy 08.01.2007 06:56 PM

deadman soundtrack is awesome, then harvest but i havent heard a huge amount of neil young

Bollocks_to_Pop 08.01.2007 08:39 PM

After The Goldrush as that was my first one. Harvest and Everybody Knows coming in a tie for second.

krastian 08.01.2007 11:43 PM

I usually just listen to Neil Young bootlegs nowadays, but if I had to pick my gavorite album I'd go with Harvest.

Mirror Ball should def. get some love too......it's a really rockin' album that sometimes gets overlooked since it came out in the 90's.

Concrete Abutments 08.01.2007 11:53 PM

Time Fades Away simply because it's so raw and real.

Rob Instigator 08.02.2007 09:42 AM

Like a Hurricane on LIVE RUST has the most insane chunky skronk riffs, I mean, it actually sounds like someone dropped a piano made of chainsaws from a third story balcony.

Agreed. The Ocean is incredible...

Dead-Air 08.02.2007 07:58 PM

On the Beach hands down. I'd love to be a non-conformist and say something else, but that record had a huge effect on me. I like a lot of his songs, but that's the album that really connects.

scott v 08.03.2007 10:49 AM

definitley Zuma because Cortez the Killer is his BEST rock track he recorded.

followed by Live Rust one of the best live albums ever made.

PAULYBEE2656 08.03.2007 10:58 AM

no parlez......

oh NEIL young, sorry!

Silent Dan Speaks 08.30.2007 01:42 AM

I've listened to After the Gold Rush three times this week. I need a life.

I think I need to go out and get On the Beach sometime soon.

Green Magnesium 08.30.2007 03:08 PM

I'm sure I am the only person in the world who would answer:

Harvest Moon

I know he has "better" albums, but this one is just my favorite.

EyeballGrowth 08.30.2007 03:19 PM

Wow, no one has said Trans

His masterpiece in my opinion. Yes even more than live rust
