Your strangest medical problem
Inspired by Glice, because we all know the man needs an ego boost -
What's the strangest medical problem you've ever had? I personally can't think of any, because I'm the paradigm of human perfection, body and mind. But what's wrong with the rest of you weird bastards? |
I got the chicken pox when I was 27.
|
i had small scars all over my body.. i didn't know what to make of it.. went to the doctor, and he got confused and decided to consult an elder colleague..
the older doc just looked at me and said it was a minor infection that spread throughout the skin.. he commented that it was fairly common for babies with their weak immune systems.. he said, "well, you could be considered a baby too.." i was 25 at the time and showed my age... |
when was early teenager, once came needle out of elbow. no idea how it got into my body.
|
That is crazy.
|
i suffer from chronic priapism. :o

I figured. I wasn't making fun of your speech; I just enjoy any opportunity to make childish references to sex. |

I have a hammer toe as well. It's quite rare.

Maybe not strange but definitely unusual (and very painful):
I got out of bed in the middle of the night and fainted, hitting my head off the sharp bit of a doorhandle and the top of my right ear was hanging off. I got fifteen stitches to sow it back on and five stitches in my head. I got a piece of stake caught in my throat and it lodged into my chest for five days. I couldn't eat and I could barely keep a sip of water down for these five days. They eventually sent me to hospital, put me under anasthetic and shoved a tube down my throat to suck out the piece of meat. |
I thought you meant a piece of "STAKE," like a metal spike, not "steak," like meat!
|
Quote:
hah, be honest-- you thought he would eat your meat stake and got excited |
Oh yeah, I meant steak. Why do I only misspell simple words when I post on message boards with hundreds of people reading them???
|
I'm blind as shit.

You are quite obviously a dimwitted boob. |
My feet smell like hands. It really sucks.
|
one time I got hit in back and I pissed blood for like a week, good times.
|
Quote:
Does this mean your hands smell worse than feet? My boy, you have much more to worry about than you suspect. |
I'm colourblind...

I've got M.E. (myalgic encephalomyelitis, or chronic fatigue syndrome if you prefer). It means I feel dizzy and weak most of the time, get about three hours sleep a night, have incredible pains that appear and dissappear at random (my left wrist is quite bad at the moment). I got it eleven years ago, and had to give up working as a sports coach because for the first six months or so it was so bad that I couldn't even stand up half the time. I work part time at something else now - they are very understanding of it.
It also means that my body is generally very low on energy, which opens the door to other things, or means that it takes longer to clear them up. It's alao why I occaisionally disappear from the forum for a couple of days. And it's why my posts are sometimes mis-spelt - it's just hitting the wrong keys due to shakiness. I do try to edit them afterwards though! Sometimes in the morning I still can't stand up - it's quite literally impossible - and sometimes I get half way through a meal and lose the energy to lift the food to my mouth or eat it - again,it's impossible. It's surprising how much energy it takes to eat a meal. When I go out, sometimes I have to avoid places with steps, because I know that they'll be out of the question that day. You get the picture, anyway. It affects me in other ways too, and means I have to plan everything around it a bit. But everything else in life is great, so that's okay. |
wow that's kind of an extreme disease.
|
*Turns off sarcasm button* You poor bugger, that sounds awful. It's one of those weird things that not many people know about - I didn't know about the sleep thing. My sympathy sir.
|
I have pancreantitis and I have to take a pill everytime I eat. I've had it since I was 7. No big deal.
I can't play sports though... because if I get hit in the stomach my pancreas will flip out and start being a pussy. |
Thanks.
Like I say, it's been eleven years, so it's my version of normal to be ill. I've got used to it a lot, and learned to adapt or whatever. And, also like I said, everything else is good. Great wife, nice enoigh home in a decent area, great employers, enough money (just!) to follow my interests etc etc. Things are pretty nice in every other respect. And there's always the internet. The lack of sleep is one of the reasons I spend so much time online (that, and because I love you all). |
Wow Hip Priest, that sucks. You're one happy bastard though. Kudos to you.
|
Hip rules.
|
Well, the way I see it is that getting miserable would be letting it beat me. And I'm quite competitive when I can be bothered...
On a lighter note, the pupil in my right eye is almost always smaller than the pupil in my left, sometimes very noticeably so. edit: you're all being too kind. I'm touched (that's not sarcasm, by the way!). Thanks, and love. Sebastian. |
i used to get nose bleeds at the drop of a dime. like at least everyday for about 20 minutes at a time. i'd lose alot of blood sometimes.
|

No. My feet smell like hands, and my hands smell like hands. Actually, it depends on whose hands we're talking about here. I've smelled some pretty nasty hands. Don't ask. It's a serious issue. I need to address it ASAP, but you know... |

My mother used to get that a lot. F***ing scary when blood starts to run for no apparant reason. Glad it's cleared up. |
