Television - Marque Moon

I'm not going to start by saying this is a highly under-rated album, mostly because it gets the praise it deserves. Not over-hyped, just respected. But Trasher02's sig jumpstarted me to pull it out and give it it's first listen in a long time, and I had forgotten how much I do like it. It's simple rock not so far beyond everything else music was doing at it's time, but just with it's own twist to make it stand out after all these years.

GrungeMonkey 07.31.2007 03:55 PM

Just an amazing album. The song Marque Moon itself is just about as good as it gets. That bit near the end when you think its finished but the drum beat comes back in and the bass and guitar join in... I love it.

Pookie 07.31.2007 04:52 PM

The song Marquee Moon is certainly one of the greatest moments in rock music.

afterthefact 07.31.2007 05:13 PM

I have to say, I think Elevation is the best song on the album, in my opinion anyway.

demonrail666 07.31.2007 05:20 PM

My favourite albums tend to change depending on my mood, but this is always there. An evergreen classic.

Norma J 07.31.2007 05:31 PM

An album that's on my list to purchase. I'll hang out for a vinyl copy though, unless I find it cheap on cd.

SonicSam 07.31.2007 05:37 PM

I paid £6 for it on vinyl, so it can't be too hard to come by.

Magic Wheel Memory 07.31.2007 11:37 PM

Great, great record! "Venus" and "Elevation" are underrated gems. And Tom Verlaine's solo on "Prove It" makes me want to cry.

In my opinion they have better songs, but it's true that Little Johnny Jewel kicks ass (especially the version on the Blow-up).

I wouldn't say their best song, but maybe their best solo. Verlaine has an amazing lead style. Part Neil Young and part outer space.

Torn curtain is an amazing song on the album, it's really a hidden treasure.

Trasher02 08.06.2007 05:28 PM

Fuck it I just like the entire album, it's one of my favorite albums ever. rightfully so.

I won't disagree :D

jon boy 08.07.2007 05:02 AM

like this album for sure but sometimes it drives me mad, cant explain this it just drives me mad sometimes.

GrungeMonkey 08.07.2007 05:14 AM

Angry mad? Crazy mad?

atsonicpark 08.07.2007 08:23 AM

mad at 1) the guy's voice, 2) the tone of the guitars, 3) LITTLE JOHNNIE JEWELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

GrungeMonkey 08.07.2007 04:13 PM

I actually quite like Tom Verlaines voice on this album... He sounds at times a little like Patti Smith I think... Youre all gonna tell me I'm mad now...

And the guitars sound great.

PAULYBEE2656 08.07.2007 04:35 PM

marquee moon is a great album by an otherwise respectibly good band. nothing else they released comes even close to marquee moon. im still not getting the urge to reach for it tho!

lungfish 08.08.2007 09:50 PM

Venus is beauty

atsonicpark 08.08.2007 11:06 PM

yeah, i agree with pauly, it's a good album though strangely i never have an urge to listen to it.

demonrail666 08.09.2007 10:03 AM

The third album, 'Television', is spectacularly underrated.

Yes it is! Much better than Adventure in my opinion.

Washing Machine 08.09.2007 12:30 PM

Television is one of the few bands thats actually scares the shit out of me. I mean that cover *shivers* can give a kid nightmares.

GrungeMonkey 08.09.2007 03:48 PM

Yeah Tom Verlaine needs to get some moisturiser or something...

Torn Curtain 08.17.2007 05:40 PM

Has anyone heard the Kronos Quartet cover of Marquee Moon (available on Rubaiyat: Elektra's 40th Anniversary) ? Is it good ?

afterthefact 08.17.2007 06:13 PM

I haven't actually heard it, but I would like to. When it comes to Kronos, I either really love it, or really can't stand it.

the live version of Marquee Moon on Blow Up is my all time favorite recording. the most stimulating version of this song i think(there's more). nothing better encapsulates guitar playing and riding every note better than this song live. at least in solo terms and i'm not even much of a guitar solo guy anymore. total chill bumps, energy, bliss.

Little Johnny Jewel from the same record is just as good.

Keeping It Simple 05.20.2014 06:44 AM

Siouxsie and the Banshees did an awesome cover of "Little Johnny Jewel" on their "Through the Looking Glass" album.
