Album addiction affliction
Ever get so hung up on an album that's all you can stand to listen to? I've been listening to Exile on Main St for weeks now, even though I've had the album for more than 30 years. This happens every once in a while with this thing, about every five years or so I plunk it on the table and it gets under my skin so bad I can't get enough.
I am like that with Camera Obscura-Let's Get Out of This Country. It is amazing.
acrobatic tenement. i can play it over and over.. all day.
I think Exile is one of those albums that turned me into a record junky. I think every record purchase I make is a desperate attempt to find something that hits the pleasure center just as hard.
I pretty much do that with all my favorite albums. Zen Arcade, You're Living All Over Me, Evol and those are just the ones that spring immediately to my attention. Just last month Is It...Man Or Astro-Man? was on the menu.
Last month it was Ryan Adams- Heartbreaker.
In June I was hooked on Mirrored by the Battles. July, it was Racc-oo-oon's new one, and some Gram Parsons stuff. I've reallly fallen hard for Exile this time around, don't know if I'll make it out alive, intervention could be necessary.
It's happened with countless albums, most recently being Death Cab For Cutie's We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes.
It barred me from even having the time to listen to Rain Dogs any more than once (bought on the same day). Notable albums from the past that have experienced this: Xiu Xiu - A Promise, Knife Play and The Air Force Silver Mt Zion - Horses in the Sky, Pretty Little Lightning Paw EP GY!BE - Yanqui U.X.O., Skinny Fists Fugazi - The Argument, Red Medicine Sonic Youth - (almost every album, save Washing Machine, has done it) Pavement - Slanted + Enchanted etc. |
Oh, Skinny Fists hooked me bad, too. So did several Fugazi albums, but Repeater got me the worst.
Sonic Nurse was the last record by anyone that did that to me.
yeah, pbradley, i pretty much always have at least man or astroman disc on my "can't stop playing" list, especially in the summertime. one of my all time favorite bands. so consistent! and definitely an influence on my guitar playing...
Why don't you just marry the Stones, and, like, be done with it?
No kidding, man!

Because, he wants something younger. |
This month it's been "Lifted" by Bright Eyes. It would have been "Where Humans Eat" by Willy Mason but I lost my CD! :[
Today it was horses by Patti Smith.

That has happened to me with that album like a dozen times. I'll listen to it every day for like weeks on end, and when I'm not listening to it, I'm thinking about listening to it. Other albums: VU and Nico, for a week or so after I first bought it, I thought it was the greatest thing ever Doolittle BMR You'd Prefer an Astronaut-Hum Turn on The Bright Lights-Interpol |
