Spirograph

Did any of guys ever have this toy? I used to fucking love making those, even after it got tedious. I wonder if they still sell these kits?

You can make them online here: http://www.math.dartmouth.edu/~dlittle/java/SpiroGraph/

:D

krastian 05.07.2006 01:14 AM

Yeah I had one. Mine always came out shitty so I would usually just say fuck it and play Nintendo or something.

ploesj 05.07.2006 10:51 AM

i always wanted one but my parents never wanted to give me one :(

Glice 05.07.2006 11:07 AM

You can still get them. Last year, whilst in the world's dullest job, I entirely mastered the art of doing spirographs free-hand. I truly own.

lucyrulesok 05.07.2006 11:09 AM

i used to spend hours and hours playing with that thing. it was pretty lame really... but i used to love it. i dont know why, i always used to fuck them up but i still loved it.
kids are dumb, i guess.

I preferred Lite-Brite. They gave you pre-drawn pitchers in the box, and you got to look at pretty lights. I was a challenged child.

Danny Himself 05.07.2006 11:33 AM

I had a Spiropgraph when I was little. I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do with it, though. :[

Savage Clone 05.07.2006 11:33 AM

I had both Lite Brite and Spirograph. The spirograph thing would come out of the notches a lot and fuck up the design, but it may have been the start of my lifelong obsession with Op Art.

Spirograph was great. Free hand spirographs are great as well....my freehand ones are all over the place though but that's sort of the point. The type of pen you have makes all the difference with spirograph I think....a fine nib is best, biros are crap dare I say.

my god, that's addicting. (i'm a math major, so i actually understand the math behind it.) thanks a lot.

Bart: "Yo, Dr. S, have you seen Milhouse today?"
Dr. Spirograph: "No."
Bart: "Okay, thanks."
Dr. Spirograph: "Wait! Did you know that there's a direct correlation between the decline of spirograph and the rise in gang activity? Think about it."
Bart: "I will."
Dr. Spirograph: "No, you won't."

I figured someone would respond this way. I'm in awe of people who really understand math. I'm such a dolt when it comes to math.

YES!!! I remember my parents worrying about my little sister choking on the colored pieces of plastic.

I should note, however, that the clown on the front of the box gives me nightmares to this day. And I used to have fits of rage when the dots on the paper didn't line up with those on the light screen, and the beauty of your electric art was compromised. Bred feelings of inadequacy that lasted for years.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.07.2006 06:12 PM

This clown?

krastian 05.07.2006 06:20 PM

I used to throw those fuckers all around the house.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.07.2006 06:25 PM

I think my mom still finds them hidden in places.

qprogeny79 05.07.2006 07:09 PM

lite-brites -- i remember those. my mom got me one for xmas back when i believed in santa -- she asked me if i wanted one (presumably having already bought one) and she convinced me to send a letter to santa asking for one, even though i had never heard of the things before. was glad i got one though -- the thing was incredible.

if you can speak russian you can do math -- i maintain that grammatical rules and mathematical principles are close cousins. it's not that difficult (barring dyslexia or something of the sort) . . . you just have to get used to the fact that it looks so foreign and esoteric.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.07.2006 10:08 PM

I've been learning how to speak and read Russian since I was young, and have yet to completely master it. Unfortunately my grandparents who were showing me the way have passed, and I'm left with family members who have never used it and only know the basics. Plus its pretty rare I get to use it anyway.

But unlike math, I've always had interest in the Russian language for ancestral purposes. Math sucks, Russian is fun!

Интереснее всего! Нет мочь слушать.

qprogeny79 05.07.2006 11:02 PM

well, if you're in college or thinking of going, you could always take russian courses . . . or if not berlitz books are always good. languages in general fascinate me . . . i wish i knew more about linguistics so i could pick up on them more quickly.

Пятхъдесят Шест 05.08.2006 02:16 PM

Berlitz books are extremely expensive too, right?

One day I'd like to speak four or five languages. Most likely languages that use the cyrillic alphabet, or has the same dialect as Russian. Georgian would be awesome, written Georgian is beautiful!
