Exciting news are coming from the Smells Like Records / Sonic Youth Records camp. Sonic Youth are putting the finishing touches on SYR 7. This Vinyl only release will feature their 2000 mythological performance of "J'Accuse Ted Hughes" at the All Tomorrow's Parties Festival. This preformance that was described as "a twenty-minute dronefuck piece that pissed off every Guinness-swilling journalist awake at the time" will be paired with a previously unreleased studio session.
Other stuff coming soon on Smells Like Records include new albums from Shelby Bryant and Tony Scher.

I'm confused. SYR 7 is not coming out on SYR? And vinyl only? Or only vinyl on Smells Like and cd on SRY, perhaps?

oh well, someone will transfer into a format and upload it somewhere thatll make it possible for me to listen to it in my vehic-ular cd player if i choose.

is it possible they are trying to force their vinyl-respecting ideals onto fans (and potential fans alike) by doing a vinyl only release. fuck, some people serioussly dont like vinyl, and even more dont have time for it.

The fact that SYR6 was CD only struck me personally as more of a "fuck-head" thing to do...
still, it's up to them what format they want to go with and I'd rather have vinyl only rather than CD only...

what's the problem? limited format releases are pretty common these days.

it would be sort of cool if they limited the edition to 50 copies or something. each one signed by the band, or label written by hand.

ive just wet myself but vinyl only? ok, punk rock en all but the next sy album to be relesed on cassette only, 8 tk cartridge. what about keeping the collections going? do not like that angle and dont believe it will happen

so, yeah, shitty streaming (17 mb for 60mins of video :eek:) , somebody out there must have the full quality file but I guess it's hard to find. First 20+ mins are j'accuse etc.

A turntable doesn't cost that much. If all the money that is spent on useless stuff like booze, fags, drugs etc was spent on something that at least is going to stay and not ruin your health, think about how many turntables everyone would be able to have.

I'm totally disapointed. SYR7 was probably the thing I was waiting the most, and I was hoping it to be J'accuse Ted Hughes... and now what, it's gonna be released and I can't even hear it... I'm sad

this is great, great news Moshe. UNRELEASED STUDIO SESSION? that's great! it's hard to believe it'll be vinyl only release. they wouldn't sell as many as on cds no? anyway, if it will be viny only so let it be, but not limited edition please.

Since Steve called that news item "National Inquirer reporting" I've been checking my sources. :) The SYR news is definitely from a reliable source.
