Suishou no Fune: Tokyo rocks the Midwest
...and yours truly will be on the bill (with Thunderbolt Pagoda) as well in a couple of stops, namely St. Paul Minnesota and Chicago Illinois. I'm very excited to see them and to share the stage with them. For these two shows, Suishou no Fune will be joined on drums by Matt Zaun (of Salamander, Skye Klad, Blitzen, Di Dollari and more). Come and check it out if this kind of music is up your alley. All the other artists on these bills are worthy of your investigation as well. Hopefully a good time will be had by all.

Their sound contains subcutaneous elements of no-wave energy mixed with psychedelic rock a la early Fushitsusha or Kousokuya. Other songs approach balladry with oddly beautiful twinned vocals and distorted guitars. They have performed around Tokyo with a list of people who could succinctly be described as everybody and were even invited to play Scotland's Weekend festival in 2005. -- Holy Mountain The group's sound runs from massively distended nod-outs that recall parts of the first Fushitsusha album through weird duo tracks that orbit a parallel universe where late-period John Fahey was the prime influence on Charalambides, infernal Dead C/Gate style guitar abuse and achingly beautiful comedown ballads. The twin vocalists are massively different in their approach, with Pirako singing in a high wayward style that's all throat and no lungs while Kageo works from the other end of the pipes with a ripped Father Yod/Jim Morrison/Keiji Haino polyglot. Simply one of the greatest out-of-nowhere groups to come out of the Tokyo underground in years and the undisputed stars of PSF's recent Tokyo Flashback 5 compilation. --Volcanic Tongue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y74TJNwOXZ4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVmOHs0Isf0 http://www.thewire.co.uk/web/camera7.php |
omghai2u.
OKC. kthx. (I'll add you to mystupidspace later though) |
...and we thank you.

Occasionally I get these pangs of regret that I ever left Chicago, akin to when I found out Diamanda would be performing in that horrible city come October. I think this is one of those pangs. Oh well. Have fun.
|
I've seen Diamanda on a couple of occasions.
That's worth travelling for. |
seriously though.....if you ever find yrself near the nation's taint, I'm fairly certain I can arrange a venue.
|
Taint!
Thanks; I'll file that in the Rolodex. Much appreciated. |
Yes, fucking right it would be. Goddamnit. There's always Megabus again, I suppose.... Anyway, it's twice at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Perhaps there are still some tickets left. I should find a friend and use the buddy system.
|
i am going to try and make the one in chicago while in town this weekend ... we just got tix for an early cubbies game, so it all depends what time that gets out ... if i dont make that one i have a 2nd chance here in boston next week, sweet!

don't you want to take your japanese friends for a road trip to mexico?

Well, they'll be in St Louis on October the 4th...
Or NYC on the 23rd of September. With your luck, you'll probably miss them both. |
i'll most likely be back in NYC on oct. 4
|
Awesome.
During SXSW this last year I was fortunate enough to see Suishou on no less than three seperate occasions, each better than the last. . . not reallly. All equally wonderful. I'm listening to Thunderbolt Pagoda now for the first time. Killer stuff dude man bro. Y'all have any CDs available anywhere online? All I can find googling is the Angus Maclise record. |

Much thanks. The tracks on the MySpace and Virb sites are just live stuff and a one-off cover version of a Loop song, but we have just finished our first studio LP, which should be out (hopefully) by Christmas. Just vinyl. |
looks like yr japanese friends will be in OKC on 10/06, that's the same day as Sonic Youth in Dallas, so I guess I'll miss it.
I really like your stuff though! I added yr myspace, and I promise that I'll try not to spam it with bulletins, pictures of dog licking women or "lol do I know u? y do u kepe sendng me pikturs of nakids midgets?" |
For the sake of photographic continuity, thread continues on next page:

Last night was fucking amazing; can't wait for tonight (jamming/recording/funtime) and tomorrow (Chicago). If you are in the path of this tour, I highly recommend checking this out. Suishou no Fune surpassed all my expectations and completely blew my mind. I'll post pix of everyone from last night except my own band, who I could not photograph what with having to use my hands for guitar and such. There is another thread on the board with their complete tourdates here.

Knife World were pretty unhinged and fantastic. Definitely commanded attention and the crowd always loves them. |
Congratulations. And what a killer line up.

Glad to hear you had a great night, by "recording" in this sentence "can't wait for tonight (jamming/recording/funtime)" you mean you'll record something together? |
Yeah, we did a couple of hours of improvisation last night and recorded it. Naturally it's not all "pure gold," but there were some very cool parts that lasted a good long while. It was great to do something together that rendered the language barrier completely insignificant. They are very sweet people and they are both quite talented. I had a fantastic time.
|
remember whan i joked that you should get everyone to play here?
i'm not joking anymore, i want to see and listen to it all!! |
And how many times have I told you to come to England, eh? You can sleep in our greenhouse.
|
well, first i have to start earning at least minimum wage...
ohh, you were talking to thunderbolt pagoda's guitar wizard. excuses. |
unfortunately didnt make it to the chicago show as planned. but did end up going to permanent records the following day for some money dropping. great store, wish i made it the night before!
|
It is a really great record store.
You're in for a treat when they hit Boston! |
