SUNBURNED CIRCLE – The Blaze Game
09.08.2007

SUNBURNED HAND OF THE MAN is a band in the loose sense of the word; it's better described as a banner under which a collective of musical freaks have gathered. So when they toured Europe in September 2006, and ended up in the same room as Psych/Kraut/Hard-rockers CIRCLE in Tampere-Finland, they decide to jam together and record all of it. This session was edited down to a total of 40-minutes which wanders ongoing through free folk, psych, improv, spaced out- hippy jamming & noisy-rock bizareness . The collaboration of both America's & Finland's weirdest, is nothing less than sensational.

SUNBURNED CIRCLE's The Blaze Game – out in September on Conspiracy Records, as a CD and a limited LP.

– The LP comes with a full colour poster and is limited to 750 copies!
– The CD version features one 45 seconds short extra track called ‘Last Song’.

Thanks for the info on the Sunburned Circle release. It's a shame they don't seem to like tour the west coast.

sonicl 09.28.2007 12:57 AM

I've read quite a good review of the sunburned circle. I'm cutting back on impulse buys, but I may let than one slip through.

Yeah, I actually witnessed about 20 mins of this when they were doing it last fall. A friend of mine saw it completely and thought it was better than the circle or sunburned gigs that followed it.

I want the vinyl.

I'm most likely going to the tampere gig.

A Thousand Threads 09.28.2007 03:24 AM

Sometimes it's really depressing to read tour dates.

WHAT ABOUT US ??????

sonicl 09.28.2007 03:35 AM

But at least they're not playing Switzerland...

A Thousand Threads 09.28.2007 03:37 AM

haha
yeah, that's true.
Fucking Switzerland

Gulasch Noir 09.29.2007 04:39 AM

Last year they played Vienna, the gig was free, not many people came and the ones that came weren't really visibly "moved". I felt a bit a ashamed on that evening, because they did all right to get the crowd moved.

Of course they need to come, though!

Iain 10.01.2007 06:09 AM

I'm going to get the Sunburned/Circle one pretty soon I think. The new one on Smalltown Supersound (or is it Superjazz?) is damn fine.

It looks like that tour schedule is a bit out of date. They've confirmed most of the UK stuff I think. The Cardiff date is at Clwb Ifor Bach with The Voices and S>A>A>B as the support.

sonicl 10.01.2007 06:16 AM

The Sunburned Circle one arrived with me this morning. If the rest of the department all go to lunch at the same time I may give it a quick spin while they're out.

Glice 10.01.2007 06:19 AM

May potentially go to the Cardiff one. Still unconvinced by this band, but the legion of people who generally have alright taste liking them makes me think I'm missing something.

rappard 10.01.2007 06:36 AM

Addition and correction on sonicl's post:

- The 10/19 show is at Vera (http://www.vera-groningen.nl/agenda/)
- The 10/26 show is at Bazart (http://www.bazart.nl/); Pokkeherrie and I will probably go and tape.

sonicl 10.01.2007 06:44 AM

Sorry, Mr Rappard, sir. Should I go and sit on the naughty stair?

First impression: Not the all-out psych jam that I was expecting. Has a mildly jazzy feeling to it. It hasn't slipped into a groove in the way that I usually like Sunburned stuff to. Bloody good though.

I think they are probably at their most focussed at the moment with the new record and they are essential live. I am a big fan I would say but I am the first to admit that they have released a vast amount of stuff, not all of it essential. Their discography is a pretty daunting thing to wade through. So come and see them live you massive tit.

Glice 10.01.2007 10:26 AM

If more gigs were advertised by personally calling me a massive tit, I'm entirely certain I'd see a lot more bands than I do.

sonicl 10.04.2007 10:07 AM

^
I'm speechless.

Phlegmscope 10.16.2007 01:42 AM

I didn't go sunday, but I'm indeed going today to the helsinki gig.
Hush Arbors cancelled (which is weird as he's one of the members of sunburned), but there's still Steel Mammoth supporthing.

yeah, see you tonight. i'm wearing my sunburned t-shirt now btw.

i have to say their last gig here was so good i'm already expecting they'll suck this time. i hope i'm wrong...

Phlegmscope 10.17.2007 08:19 AM

t'was good! Not really on the same level with the last years gig when they were tighter and more fucked up, but nevertheless, really fun time. There was even a mosh pit, which I didn't expect.
Terribly superb live band.

yeah, that's true.

there was a funny review on finland's biggest newspaper this morning, the reviewer really didn't have a clue what was going on.

sonicl 10.29.2007 05:36 PM

I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to go and see them after all :(

jon boy 10.30.2007 06:39 AM

go go go go go go go go go go go go go go, please.

sonicl 10.30.2007 07:05 AM

I'm already out and about quite a bit in November, and if I add any more goings-out to my diary I'm going to have a very unhappy girlfriend to deal with. Which isn't a good thing.
