Which is actually good wisdom if you interpret it correctly. Now, with the whole Revelations End of the World deal that John of Patmos crafted an adolescent revenge fantasy & it is fast becoming a very real self-fulfilling prophecy. But let's get past that. John of Patmos let his ego run away with him & he brewed up Revelations & jumped the shark, but at its core, the very kernel of the whole book, is a fine nugget of wisdom.

Evil is real & the reason why evil exists pervasively is ultimately because of the fear of death. Now this is the metaphorical meaning of Satan symbolism. As we each continue to err & have bad wills that engender bad consequences we impel the world towards destruction because unconsciously we want to suffer & be awakened out of our fear.

Thus, like Teddy Roosevelt reminds (somewhat different context, but) "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." In other words, unless one really deals with their own fear of death, they will unconsciously bring suffering upon themselves. Although suffering does foster wisdom through its disruption of the ego, it's actually in everyone's own best interest not to be a total selfish asshole; contrary to popular belief & the general way of the world. I'll tell everyone one thing, I didn't pull all this out of my ass. I learned over time because I humbled myself enough to know how important knowledge & self-knowledge are.

Atari thought I was a troll when I first arrived. I don't blame him, because for some unknown reason, he is not the only one who suspected that I was someone else. That seemed to be an opinion held by many.

This is going to sound like more cock-stroking, but atari is one of the few posters on here that I truly respect. Even moreso for his occasional rant - seeing atari lose it is one of the most entertaining events on this board.

He does know how to make a point, back it up, expand on it, turn you against yourself and do it with seeming ease and finese. Not that I know him or anything, but it is premium entertainment.

i made the million polls to make a point on how stupid it was to make polls pitting one sy album against the other. i even told thurston hunger that it was very simplistic, it's not like he made a thread for every album so we could discuss them he put this threads that were like "ssd's get it away vs captain beefheart's trout mask replica; which one do you like the most?". plus i think the board has been really slow on good threads, so why not just have fun.

like truncated has said, the sy gossip section is all "i love sonic youth, wow yeah!!! you guys rock!!!"; we haven't had a descent conversation about them in this new board since it started.

don't you think the daily million "rather ripped" and "gilmore girls" threads aren't troll-like? i find most real sy-related threads to be a bad joke and are offensive to me.

if people are being dumb, why not have fun period? if you can't see the humor in what i did, then i'm really sorry for you.

by the way, the "annoying vocals" thread wasn't a joke one, i was thinking about doing for a long time.

it's true, it gets kinda annoying because, like you said, we had some great conversations on the old board, really great threads that were smart, humurous, biting and yet understandable, you know the people here and know they like good music and have great points of views and shit. but the thing is, there hasn't been any good threads here; i especially find it annoying that everytime i or anyone else for that matter, try to start a good conversation, it all goes down in flames because a) no one replies or b) someone tries to pick a fight. it's like those "underrated/overrated" threads at the very beginning of the board or the political threads where all they do is call each other retards in oh so many words. and most threads a day are pretty insipid. there's not much people want to talk about, most of the time it's "these guys rule!!!" or these"these guys suck!!!" not anything else to it,a nd it really gets on my nerves.

i went back to the thurston hunger threads and posted my points of view on each album, it really annoys me that most people just left click on the option and post "i voted for XXXXX", why not talk about it?!
