RADIOHEAD - IN RAINBOWS: The Review Thread
listening right now...
so far, it's a-m-a-z-i-n-g |
Dammit, I have to wait a few days before I can hear it :'(
|
Sick of hearing about Radiohead. Fuckin' truth.
|
Nude is amazing
|
Listening to it right now. So far I'm diggin' it. It's been too long since we had new Radiohead music.
|
I'd say it's got a kid A feel but more rockers
|
actually I dunno..It's in its own category
|
Faust Arp is fucking beautiful.
And they weren't kidding when they called it lush. This is definitely a headphone album. |

i definately required a substancial radiohead cool-down period . though since i havent been around anyone flapping their beaks about them or seen any advertisements/television about them in years, ive found myself distantly curious about the album leading up to tonight's release . and i'm delighted to be hearing it now , cuz its pretty damn good . though admittedly hearing thom's voice again still does curl my upper lip just a bit :/ |
I don't want Mp3s! I want the cd!
|
ahhh i do not have it, and i never really cared much for radiohead but i will check it oput
|
So, the "digital download" is in mp3 format :( ?
|
Yes :(
I will hold out till December 3 |
10x 160kbps MP3 files...Album closer, Videotape, is creepily quiet and one of the better tracks... IMHO.
|
oh, 160 kbps... :( :( :( :)
will listen soon, anyways. |
I'm liking it! Nude is absolutely beautiful, they've really done it justice. "Weird fishes / Arpeggi" sounds fantastic. 4 years is far too long. There's some really beautiful singing on this album.
For anyone who's curious: In Rainbows |
I don't know what to think about it as of yet.
|
Dunno why, but I got a feeling the tracks on that second cd that comes with the discbox edition will be even better (still haven't listened to these tracks).
|
sendspace link! \nn/

Is it out on vinyl? |
double vinyl :D
|
What's with the cover?
|
There's a rawhide/At home/With your name on it!/There's a rabbi/Shalom/Bo-bo Ski-yotten-notten.
|
What do you think of it atsonicpark? I seem to agree with your musical taste the most.
|
Oh, I won't be able to get it for a few more days. I typically trust... well.. I think Kid A is great. And most of their albums are all pretty worthy, though extremely overrated (except, again, "Kid A"). I'd rather listen to "Chairs Missing" anyway. Though.. well.. I mean, I'd hate to rain on anyones parade but am I the only person who thinks "I Am The Fly" is a little um, lame? I mean, THE FLY?! It's one of my all time favorite songs, but come on -- THE FUCKING FLY?!
Reminds me of that scene in Deadfall where Nicolas Cage goes "SOMEONE'S TRYING TO KILL ME, MANNNNNNNNNN" and does an Elvis karate chop/kick. |
Alrighty

OHMIGAWD!!!!
it sounds like just another radiohead album. they should be embarrassed that they worked on this for so long, because i'm not really seeing much growth from them at this point. |
Sorry, my friend decided that I should mix some gin with some codeine and uh.. I'm feeling kind of fucked up and should probably go lay down. But yah.. can't wait to hear this new album.. if only for the fact that they name drop mah fuckin dawg Mephistopholis!

My first impressions: I think it's good, but it's not really exciting me much. It bothered me too that they seem to have toned down some of the rockier songs too. I'm also in the camp of being a little sick of radiohead by now also - I used to be a huge fan and they're the only band that ive felt that strongly about and now to find them a little boring. That said it's nice - some nice songs on there but i dont think i'll be listening to it for prolonged periods of time. I agree with val-halla-ing too.
On the subject what did everyone pay for it? I didn't as i'd rather use money to pay for a cd version - that deluxe box is a bit crafty too. |
I offered some ready salted crisps and a half-eaten piece of cake, but Thom Yorke told me to sod off.
|
when i first heard the album, on crappy Apple earphones, i couldn't really hear the bass all too well which was awful.
i should've just turned it off right then and there. but 15 Step sounded so great nevertheless. the bass near the end reminded me of Where I End and You Begin, and then Bodysnatchers came on and put a smile on my face. Nude is absolutely gorgeous, the "on again, off again" bit of Faust Arp reminded me "flan in the face" in The Wolf at the Door, All I Need is beautifully haunting, etc etc. but after i listened to the album through the first time, after Arpeggi or so, i was getting restless at the lack, in my first listen view, of instant 'catchiness', especially in the softer songs. i'm listening to it now with better earphones and it is immediately having a much better effect on the way i'm perceiving the album. i need to listen to it some more. overall, it's not a bad album, far from it, but not amazingly great either. |
Was I the only one expecting a Radiohead album when downloading a Radiohead album? My expectations were pretty low to were I was expecting another album of piano ballads and electronic blip drums. However, Videotape is the only song with piano.
But after listening to it, it does sound like a "mixed reviews" album. |

Where you being rude when you offered? |
Well, up till now I think the main limit of the album is Thom's voice. I liked better how he "used" it in his solo album, more variety and less "whiny" (<-- not to be read as an "insult") imo. I think it's a pretty bass-percussions rhythm based album actually, gotta listen deeper to make up my mind, but I think it will be killer live material.
|
its fucking great! listened to it 3 times through today. love it....
|
wow... yeah. opinion most definitely changed.
House Of Cards alone is so gorgeously simple. so melodic. good shit. |
I can see how someone may find it boring. But it has a unique vibe to it where I can't really compare it to one of their previous albums. I like it a lot.. I hear a lot of Boards of Canada type influence but I bet they were spinning some classical albums as well.
|
i was too quick to judge in my own head on first listen,
based on the shit sound coming out of my shit earphones, plus subway/train noise. huge mistake. but it's a much better listen now. i'm hearing it clearly for what it is. i knew it was going to be better when I heard Jigsaw Falling Into Place completely different on a quieter train than the morning one coming home. what a great song that one is. In Rainbows definitely requires multiple listens for complete appreciation. it hits me with the warmest feeling inside how great this album is. |
