kicks you've been on lately

musical or otherwise
i've gone off on a space rock binge lately.

Savage Clone 10.26.2007 01:22 AM

I think my whole life is a space rock binge.

Cantankerous 10.26.2007 01:25 AM

space rock is a constant in my life but i have periods where i'll go on week(s) long excursions through genres. last month it was glam rock. sometimes i'll just listen to dinosaur for 3 days straight.
non-musically i've been getting back into my photography.

ALIEN ANAL 10.26.2007 01:27 AM

wtf is space rock

Savage Clone 10.26.2007 01:27 AM

My wife and I both got new bikes this week, so I've been really into that the past few days. Transportation or recreation, it's quite a pleasure right now.
I have to say it's the most perfectly functional vehicle I've ever had.

Cantankerous 10.26.2007 01:29 AM

this may or may not help

Ozric Tentacles are the most objectionable band on that page if you ask me.

Alex's Trip 10.26.2007 01:33 AM

My latest kick? This gaming rocking chair that has a speakers in it, that you can plug your ipod into. It's awesome.

i know you said not to ask... but you see city of men? mini-series by the guy who did city of god?

Cantankerous 10.26.2007 01:35 AM

acid mothers temple, pink floyd (particularly with syd barrett), spiritualized, spacemen 3, and bowie when all his lyrics were rambling on about moon rocks and starmen are all excellent
is this turning into a thread about the definition/my opinions of space rock? apologies

hawkwind are fantastic as well.

Well it's a good thing I am not you: the person who is afraid to admit he owns nice things, even on the anonymous internet.

no... they have it there? i'm going to bust my hourly limit in the first week of the month. that or i'll have to upgrade my plan.

but anyway, the stuff i've seen... mostly crap. i did enjoy watching the whole 1st season of 30 rock during a night of insomnia (20+ episodes?). the rest... i better not say.

maybe it's the winter blues, or quitting smoking. anyway, i'm smoking again. i need my neurons.

Cantankerous 10.26.2007 01:41 AM

i myself am fine with having furniture that is devoid of things that can electrocute me.

But it was on some weird sale, or something. They are normally like $150, but it ended up costing like $30.

The chair is nice, because our xbox is now in a new room that contains no music playing equipment. If I wanted to listen to music from my computer while playing a video game (which is what I use the chair for), I'd have to turn it up really loud, and with 4 other people living in the house (who all bitch about the music I listen to), that isn't practical.

porn

Cantankerous 10.26.2007 01:46 AM

and i'm going to go recline leisurely in one of them pieces of furniture and maybe if i get lucky i'll drift off into dreamland and wake too early in a puddle of my own saliva.
see you, space cowboy.

good deal though.

Yeah, I see what you mean, but it is actually really nice. Like...good quality speakers, and the chair is comfy enough.

!@#$%! 10.26.2007 01:52 AM

thread hijack

space rock --> "gaming" (porn) chair

Norma J 10.26.2007 01:54 AM

I've been pretty chuffed about moving back to the country for a little bit. and the posibility of doing some solo shows soon.

m1rr0r dash 10.26.2007 01:55 AM

rocking chair... for porn... genius

Alex's Trip 10.26.2007 01:58 AM

Only bad thing, it's leather so getting naked on it is a bit uncomfortable.

<.<

Aww, I just throw a blanket on it.

Hum rules. cunt.

so basically, J just had a son and his name is Rory Mascis.
funny, eh?

gmku 10.26.2007 06:23 AM

Denis Johnson's Jesus' Son

I could read it again and again. Parts are spooky, parts are just funny, but the writing is stunning.

Plus I love carrying it around with me and watching the faces of people who see the title. Screw this fucking Bible Belt.

gmku 10.26.2007 06:36 AM

Music-wise, I've been on a quasi-Faces kick of late:

Faces - A Nod is as Good as a Wink...
Rod Stewart - Every Picture Tells a Story
Ron Wood - I've Got My Own Album to Do, and Now Look

& a Roxy Music kick with Country Life and Stranded. Must buy more Roxy Music!

Lamont Cranston 10.26.2007 09:12 AM

Still got the Slow Music Project album on repeat, man I wish they'd done more than a couple shows on the American West Coast in 2006:mad:.

mangajunky 10.26.2007 09:43 AM

Did I mention that I've been watching lots of Hard Gay?

Great to have you back Lilly :)

davenotdead 10.26.2007 01:21 PM

screamingskull 10.26.2007 01:50 PM

I wasn't under the assumption that he had ego issues.

or do you mean, he needs to man-up and tell Drozd to stop fucking with the dials because his music is better anyways??

nothing against Drozd, but I agree with the second sentence.

PS: my Sparklehorse phase has lasted about 8 years.

screamingskull 10.26.2007 01:57 PM

he thinks he sucks, basically. he is surprised when people come to his shows.
I wish he'd get out of his depression.

the there was the whole london incident.

floatingslowly 10.26.2007 02:07 PM

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, has he told you this or is this yr impression from things said on stage or things that you've read on the internet?

because, people say a lot of things on stage (and on the internet) and it's not always true....

anyways, I know he's a depressive (and has been for a long time). Good Morning Spider was written while he was hospitalized after passing out on drugs (and cutting off the blood to his legs), but I've never seen him act shocked that people came to his shows...

screamingskull 10.26.2007 02:11 PM

i read a lot of interviews a while back when 'Dreamt of Light years' came out, and he just came across as a really sad chap. Tired, depressed, and unable to make any decent money from what he was doing.
He made 'Its a wonderful life' thinking it would be his last album, as he would be dead soon enough. So we are very lucky to still have him around.

but, see, a lot of that is just image.

although it appears to be having the desired effect, you yrself can only put so much vested interest into statements like that (did you know that Disintegration was the Cure's last album too??).

I love Sparklehorse and I worship at the alter of Mark Linkous, and should something happen to him I would be destroyed (yeah, I'm totally fucking emo over Sparklehorse), but so much of the things that artists say are done in the name of their art.

as far as money goes, I'm not his accountant, but, I'm pretty sure the guy isn't working at McDonald's for a living.

and I'm sorry, the last thing I want to do here is mess with the picture you have in yr mind of the guy as being mysteriously dark and sad, but yeah, take it all "with a grain of salt".

FOR THE REST OF YOU: fuck off, this thread's now about Sparklehorse.
