When I was young I was impressed by that one:
The Cure - Close To Me If I discovered it now I don't know if I'd like it as much. |

Here's a great one that takes me back. Zeropumpkin may be familar with this one. |
Nah, don't like You Am I :)
Don't like many Australian bands, really. We suck at making music, with the exception of about 2 bands. |
Never an untruer word spoken.
Who would be the exceptions? |

sound as ever is an awesome album and produced by lee ranaldo. anything after hourly daily is pretty average. australians do not suck at making music. perhaps you should try some of the bands on here http://www.cousincreep.com/antipodeanunderground/. i do understand that if you are under 30 you missed a hell of alot of great stuff and great venues before the big pokie crush of the early 90s. and depending on which city you live. perhaps look into ash wednesday the slugfuckers primitive calculators essendon airport just for a start |
Convicts is a great album. All their albums are great though.

No, Australia has lots of good bands but very few of them are able to play music for a living. Australia has always had many great band that nobody gives a fuck about. My friend found a tape for 50c by this band called Pictish Blood that is absolutely killer but nobody has ever heard of them. LINK: http://www.myspace.com/pictishblood Also in response to terminal pharmacy and Norma J, only a few months ago did I realise how great You Am I were. I really need to search out those first few albums. |

I just don't dig the Aussie scene even though I'm part of it. |

I'm moving to Canada when I'm older! Hopefully.

I know some great bands in Sydney; Lions At Your Door are great and Pip Branson Corporation are also brilliant they have a fugazi meets joy division meets devo vibe to them

Perfect example of what Sydney/Australia is like. I've never heard either of these bands and I'd consider myself pretty clued onto whats happening. Sydney bands I think rule include: Dead Farmers (Comets on Fire meet psych garage punk, real young dudes) Castings (weirdo free music 6 piece, Olson of Wolf Eyes released one of their albums, Chocolate Monk in the UK released another) Happy Go Hate Fuck (no good recordings to date but must see free jazz/grindcore/destruction group live) Moonmilk (beautiful keyboard drone/ambient duo, cassette out on DNT), Circle Pit (ex-Kiosk, kinda like Royal Trux but some slow dual guitar jams as well) Wog (Ray from Hard-ons in bass and drum duo) Other current Australian bands I think rule: Man Killed (drone-rock type stuff, obvious SY influence but still highly original. From Canberra) Zond (Friggin amazing drone from Melbourne, condenses what most bands would do over 15 min into 4 min. Great guitar freak-outs and riffs) True Radical Miracle (Sludgy, birthday party-ish band but filtered through hardcore punk)) Popolice (like a one man MBV, kinda) Red Red Krovvy (boy/girl thrashy/arty/teenagery punk from Cairns, QLD. Like Harry Pussy but has no idea who that is as they are all 16) ZEROpumpkins, if any of those bands sound interesting I'm pretty sure they all have Myspace sites. Seriously there is some good shit right in your backyard, no matter what you like. |

This could also go in the rap video thread. But I remember loving this video and song when I was a young whippersnapper. |
