What are your guilty pleasures?
Let's see
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the Movie Crash Test Dummies - God Shuffled his feet Old 70's Sesame Street episodes Voltron And lots of old random radio songs of my preteen years, Live, Oasis, Spacehog, Nine inch Nails, Counting Blue Cars, that Green Day song from the movie Angus, lots lots more |
I love Teenage Mutant Hero turtles (I assume you mean the original film) and Sesame St. I dont think these pleasures have any connotations of guilt whatsoever.
|
Well Sesame Street maybe not, but there are always those people like Why the hell are you watching Sesame Street? They don't know the 70's episodes were beyond weird
TMNT yes I'm talking about the 1st movie, I have a bit of guilt in that I must admit. But it's actually a real movie. But it's largely nostalgia |
christmas music (not that i feel guilty, but for some reason i think i should).

seriously, a movie that pan-horrible should not have rewatchability. but it does. |
Iron Maiden :o
|
i'm gonna have to go with cigarettes. and beer. and whisky.
|
Murdering hobos.
But guilty only in the eyes of the law. |
none of my pleasures are guilty, at least not for me.
|
Yeah, you should feel no guilt for loving '70s Sesame Street (though you should for making the all too common mistake of putting the ' in the wrong place!) If you'd said '90s Sesame Street that would be a justfiable guilty pleasure.
I don't have broadcast t.v. and I haven't in decades, but put me in front of one with a remote, and I'll find whatever the current version of the Dating Game/Love Connection may be and thoroughly enjoy watching the train wrecks. That's guilt. I like listening to Art Bell a lot, though he's recently retired. I still listen to his replacements even though they aren't nearly as good in hopes of capturing the same UFO/Conspiracy theory geekdom rush. My wife is embarrased by this. I've kind of come full circle with The Carpenters too, because I got into them when Sonic Youth were dropping their name all of the time due to the hipness of the irony. Thing is, I fell in love with the music and now could give a damn about the irony, and go for songs like "I Won't Last a Day Without You" that have no hipness quotient I know of. |

what makes you think sy were being ironic liking the carpenters? |
Kylie Minogue. "Locomotion" and "I should be so lucky "

Who the fuck has "guilty" pleasures? If you like something, why would you feel "guilty" for it? Why would you be embarassed by your tastes? That's stupid. We've had about 65 threads like this, and it always starts out with a few serious answers, a few answers of "Why you feel guilty for dat?" and then my inevitable reply, which I'm replying with again. Why not say: "What are some things you like that perhaps other people on here may not like as much?"
That being said, I probably like a lot of shit not everyone here likes, but I'll freely admit it: KoRn's first two albums, Limp Bizkit's first album, Static-X's first album, System of a Down's first and third albums are all masterpieces. I really like a lot of Madonna's music, too! Actually, lots of pop stuff.. I really really fucking like a few of Tool's albums and almost all of Deftones's work. As far as films go, I watch everything -- literally everything -- and I'm not ashamed at all to watch fucking Murder-Set-Pieces one day, The Lion King the next, and then end with Uzumaki. I tend to side with the darker, low budget stuff, but I can appreciate big budget films (except overblown total bullshit films like the Matrix, which in direct contradiction of my paragraph above, I find nothing to like about -- I may not like Lord of the Rings, but those at least seem to have a little bit of heart to them unlike Keanu Reeves's overblown special effects bullshit). Sorry, I know that's a real "indie" answer, but I'm not ashamed nor feel guilty for anything I like. In fact, I get the reputation on here as someone who hates everything, but I honestly feel that I can tolerate ALMOST any book/film/song/etc, because I've found in life that you HAVE TO find at least one good in everything. You have to! Otherwise, you're going to be some dick that goes, "I never wanna hear the Fall, they is assholes lol." Seriously, people need to be a little more open minded in general. And if you feel guilty for liking something, fuck you. |
ps: Yo Gabba Gabba is the best show currently on television, for those wondering.

Oh, I don't think they entirely were. Sonic Youth were into the Beatles and the Carpenters were definitely directly descended, particularly in terms of song arrangement and production. Still, I think the SY cover of "Superstar" reeks of irony, and the lyrics to "Tunic" even moreso. I don't think there is anything wrong with that though - you can still get into something in part out of irony and really enjoy it. |

i like cigarettes, but they're slowly killing me and sets a bad example for my child (even though he bitches and hates it NOW). therefore i feel guilty? cool? beer and whisky are delish, and i enjoy having a few drinks... but sometimes it makes me not want to work out the next day or some shit and i feel guilty. cool? :) yes, i realize i am being literal, but i actually find the fact i smoke embarrassing. |
Quote:
No! You must open your mind and feel guilty for feeling guilty! ;) |

sometimes i do! i'm the guiltiest non-religious person ever! i feel guilty for everything! |
I'm not sure if cigarettes could be considered a "guilty" pleasure, more so a "stupid" pleasure, since you know they're killing you. But that's your business. They'll probably eventually be completely illegal either way.
|
masturbating in the bathroom at work (gotta have something to look forward to when working at a shitty sandwich place to pay ur way through college, actually i dont even feel guilty about it)
|
i smoke too, dont feel guilty about it tho, just stupid that i was an insecure 17 year old who needed somethin to with his hands, im a runner too, i prolly could still compete if i didnt smoke, but i wouldnt want to anyways so puff away, i figure if i keep working out and running itll keep me somewhat healthy till i get the balls to quit, i mean i used to be an alkie and have a coke/heroin problem, ive been clean off all those awful things for 4 months now so ill wait a lil while to get off the ciggies.

i hope i'm dead by then ;) |
oh dude i jack off at work every night.
oh and girlgun: I know plenty of intelligent people who smoke, so I'm not suggesting you're "stupid", just that cigarettes are dumb... I mean, I've smoked some cigarettes, I can see the appeal, but it's always been easy for me to quit, especially when I consider the risks involved. |

i don't think so, i think they were being honest, from interviews and stuff. it's not like SONIC YOUTH needed to score indie points by being ironic; to me, it seems like the press couldn't handle the "coolest band in the world" being into something so square like the carpenters and their only reasoning for printing their interviews like that was by saying "maybe they're being ironic". same deal with pavement, never seen how they are ironic, they were mostly joking around when trying to explain themselves. |
I highly doubt the song/video "Superstar" was done as a huge act of irony, not to mention their tribute song to Karen Carpenter and mentions in interviews. That seems really genuine to me... otherwise, Sonic Youth really really like to take ironic jokes no one cares about far beyond the stretches of our minds.

A guilty pleasure is any indulgence you're a wee bit embarassed about, right? I have them aplenty. Gilmore Girls, My So-Called Life, and The Waltons rank among the top 10 of mine. Also the Man from UNCLE Ace paperback series I collected when I was 10-13--I still re-read them! (I also have two Girl from UNCLE paperbacks, but have only ever read one).
Certain shopping indulgences. I'm like a girl for a cool pair of jeans. Or shoes. Shirts. Jackets. Yeah, like I said, embarassing. Why am I even admitting to all this? |
Don't know why you all feel secure enough admitting all this shit because I'm smugly laughing my ass off. Screen captures, showing my friends, writing down blackmail material, etc.
|
Please don't tell my wife!
|
These here negatives won't be cheap.

- snoopy (everyone seems to make fun of me for this but my mom seems to understand. she bought me a little plushy snoopy.) - i don't feel guilty for doing anything, i just feel a little childish and/or awkward because i still like a variety of children's things. i have sesame st. bedsheets for christ's sake. i don't know where they came from but they appear to be pretty old because they're not made of polyester, they're that nice old cotton that gets cold if you don't have the heat up high enough. |
I must be plenty dorky/uncool because I have nothing against most of the things mentioned so far in this thread. Except I don't masturbate at work. Wow. If I did I'd feel weird, man.

10,000 Days blows.
Cantankerous.. Regarding cigarettes being illegal: I don't know what town you live in, but in my STATE, you pretty much can't smoke anywhere except IN YOUR HOUSE or IN YOUR CAR WITH THE WINDOW ROLLED UP. If you flick a fucking cigarette butt out your window, you'll get a ticket. You can't smoke in any public places or within miles of certain businesses. This has just been over the past few years. As stupid and dangerous as cigarettes are and with the risks of smoking more and more apparent every week, you honestly can't see a future wherein they'd be illegal? The government may end up losing money if cigarettes are COMPLETELY illegal (I mean, they're already being taxed, what, 10% more in California or some bullshit... ), but they'll certainly do something to prevent them from being smoked by just about anybody.. or they'll replace it with something. |
Tool are a good band, just most of their fans seem to suck. Most are also into shit like Korn and the likes. Which is fine, I guess, just not my thing.

Shame on you! |
Guilty pleasures...? Well I can't say I feel too guilty about it, but I do read a lot of comics and have been accused of being kinda nerdy... but whatever, I'm okay with it.
Oh and I've been listening to Tears For Fears lately. I'm okay with that one too. |
