My friend actually just send me Dry and Rid Of Me a few days ago and I quite enjoy them. I should check this out as well.

sarramkrop 11.25.2007 01:34 PM

It's far from amazing, but I enjoy it in a non-amazing way.

PAULYBEE2656 11.29.2007 07:56 AM

its agreat album but dont expect to hear rid of me on it. its not that amazing!

nicfit 11.29.2007 08:06 AM

ha ha I'm still amazed :D.

screamingskull 11.29.2007 08:13 AM

i need to listen to it a bit more, i've kind of gotten stuck into a Fleetwood Mac album recently.

Rob Instigator 11.29.2007 10:08 AM

I have listened to the white chalk since the vinyl came in about a month and a half ago. It will take me time to get into it. her high register on these songs puts me off a bit. It sounds great, the music and the album, but not yet hitting me where it hurts. I love PJ

batreleaser 11.30.2007 10:39 AM

i lost interest in her after the last two, ill listen to a friends copt prolly...

Everyneurotic 01.29.2008 02:49 PM

i have seen her live!

nicfit 01.29.2008 02:50 PM

KO.

great news from a few days ago:

Polly To Hit The Studio With John Parish
Polly is due to enter the studio with John Parish later this month to commence work on a collaborative album, a follow-up to their 1996 collaboration on Dance Hall At Louse Point.

They will be joined in studio by long-time cohort, Eric Drew Feldman, Carla Azar from Autolux and Giovanni Ferrario. The studio session will take place ahead of Polly’s forthcoming tour of New Zealand & Australia and confirmed show in Rome on March 9th which are in support of her current album White Chalk.

The, yet to be titled, album is expected out later this year.

p.s. she will play in Rome in march, but prices are in a 35-65 range. And I'm talkin' Euros.... aaaaand, that's the only italian date.

Everyneurotic 01.29.2008 02:55 PM

i really don't know what to expect from her anymore, that's pretty much the best way to approach her work.

i wasn't aware how popular she has become, 65 euros seats for pj harvey? wow!

nicfit 01.29.2008 03:01 PM

The "problem" is that she plays in this fancy-ultra-modern auditorium,

designed by Renzo Piano...
which is a GREAT thing for acoustic and sound quality, but prices are quite high in the main halls, and I don't want to see her from a football field-like distance.... Branca in february will play in the "little hall" for 12 euros... :D

afterthefact 01.29.2008 03:06 PM

You know, I've never really listened to PJ Harvey, minus some stuff with Nick Cave. I think I'll delve into it tonight.

holy fuck! when she came here, she played in a former cinema!

looks nice but i don't like watching "rock" shows in these kind of places; branca should be cool.

That's a freakin 2700+ seats hall, the biggest of the 4 halls in the complex... Actually for a record as White chalk I think a much more intimate venue would be waaaay better...but you know, sadly, only one gig = big venue for all the fans coming over...
The hall for branca is around 650 seats methinks.

I saw mono in a (modern) cinema and that was great. Hardly "rock", btw, just a side note :D

Savage Clone 01.29.2008 03:16 PM

I like this album OK, but it's never going to resonate with me like Dry, Rid Of Me or Uh Huh Her do. The whole piano-and-voice singer/songwriter thing has never really been my bag, but I will give it up to her for doing this, especially as she admits to being a little out of her comfort zone on piano.

Everyneurotic 01.29.2008 03:17 PM

that's why i said "rock" in quotations.

krastian 01.29.2008 04:12 PM

It's a really nice change of pace for her and I think it turned out pretty well.....I really like White Chalk. There are lots of classic "PJ misery moans" in there.....oh yes. All in all, she has never dissappointed me.

EMMAh 01.29.2008 06:17 PM

I love White Chalk. PJ is awesome.

phoenix 01.29.2008 06:23 PM

her show is sold out here, which makes me sad

havent heard this yet. I am a poor person atm.

dry is by far my fav album, then rid of me.

Everyneurotic 01.30.2008 12:11 AM

you know what? i don't understand all the love for rid of me; it's good but...i don't hear why it's so special.

flophousefloozie 01.30.2008 01:39 AM

I hate to say it, but this album was added to my store's playlist. Before I knew that, I heard it, and thought, "Good God, this is terrible".

Again, I'm sorry. It's just my opinion. I'm not a fan of her.

Protectmeyou 02.01.2008 06:33 AM

It won't be my favourite record of hers but it's still a very worthy addition to her amazing catalogue. A nice side-step. There's a few gems on there. "When under ether" really captures the harrowing experience of abortion. And "Grow" is delightful.
