If any of you have actually read up or taken any interest, its no different to the filters that were previously on offer a few months ago from the government, with the difference its given to you when you sign up ( I presume)..

if you dont want it, you can still ask for it to be turned off ffs.

There's also some other stuff recently about porno on the internet, but that has more to do with people in the sex industry rather than the general public. Different regulations about how people in the industry can distribute their media. not 100% sure on the details as I didnt read it properly, but it was in KinKe mag a few months ago. probably some other stuff on the internet about it from around then.

For kevin07 to roll out his wholeshebang education revolution, I can definatley understand why this along with the new uncapped broadband is one of his first priorities. If hes getting every child to actually use the internet as a medium for their learning on a daily basis, without doing something like this, it would not have been long for someone to take a stab at whether or not he understands how DANGEROUS AND UNSAFE the internet can be for little kiddies. yaknow.

The Howard governments plan was voluntary 'opt-in', you don't think people who chose to 'opt-out' of this aren't going to be treated with suspicion? If this is to get Family Firsts senate vote, then what other Pentacostal fixations could banned? Or maybe Rio Tinto can put in a good word about websites critical of their mining operations in West Papua? The sky is the limit.
This will even further slow our internet, so his plans to increase speeds will likely be just bringing them up to pre-ban days! Schools already have their own filters (I sure remember mine did); as for home, well, you see there are these things called parents and they have these things called responsibilities...

filters in schools are for the dumb kids. I remember watching a chick being unfed by a dalmation in the school library.

and the difference a filter would make to a t2+ connection, if you didnt want to opt out of the providers manditory filter, is ridiculously negligable. The fact whether you're running a wifi connection, have very small amount of ram, or having to deal with Vistawanka and a firewall would have far more effect on yr internet speed.

No, we don't need some asshole who's in power to decide what we can and cannot do on the internet. IMO Rudd is an agent from China who is going to enforce communism on this land. But then there's Howard, who did absolutely everything for his own personal gain. I thought Rudd might have been a decent PM but now it's easy to see he's just as much of an asshole as howard. Labor party is meant to be left wing but that's hardly the case. Rudd opposes Gay marriage and adoption and is a massive Christian.

So whether you voted Howard or Rudd, you were fucked from the start.

Really? Only been in a couple days and I think The Great Barrier Reef is still being cooked alive, they are still going ahead with the woodchip mill in Tasmania, still logging in Tasmania, and Victorias catchments.

think about things in a rational manor, censorship needs to occur in some form or another. anarchy and kaos does not work, however, people with the abilty to censor their childrens use of media products should do so and not be so lazy.

Rudd has done some good things, you can only take small steps when you are a leader of a country, you can not be altruistic and you cannot fix everything in the space of a few short years in power, let alone weeks. Not to mention all the other political and business factions that a leader has to deal with. Also Labour donot receive full control of the senate for a few months yet, so they can only move so fast on a few things. The guy has already done more in a few weeks than Howard did in 11 and a bit years on the environment side of things, making the first step and signing australia up to the kyoto protocol, which is an initial step to a greater australian and world environmental policy....

just remember clydesdales are a much bigger horse if you need to get a bit higher.

Zero - Australia will not become communist just because Rudd can speak mandarin. Also Australia's democracy is far to complex to be able to make a change to such a political system, which is proven not to work as well as democracy through the historical political systems. The labour party is not meant to be left wing, it is just another party in a two party political system, because it was born from the labour movement does not make it left wing. As far as I am concerned Australia should have embraced the Asian connection for day one because geographically we are an asian country.
