I Hate Fugazi!!!
![]() |
I checked this band out because they're always being mentioned, but they sound awful. and what a bad name for an album: Marillion.
|
Yeah, Marillion is awful. There's a few knuckleheads at dime that like them.
"Fugazi" is a Yinglish (Yiddish/English) word for out of whack, crazy or otherwise off-kilter, just in case anyone (you know you were haha) was mistakenly wondering why Marillion would name their album after another band. I don't know, it might be Germanic in origin, or something else entirely. I've heard it used by Jewish people. It's pronounced fu-gay-zee. I just wonder if the pronunciation of the band Fu-gah-zee is the original way they intended it or not. And it's definitely "Fu" (as in kung fu) and not "foo" because the first sound of both pronunctiations is a short sound. Do you play guitar at all? |
yeah, marillion is very boring.
i'm not particularly fond of fugazi the band. |

Yep. Other military slang: SNAFU: Situation Normal, All Fucked Up AWOL: Absent Without Leave Charlie Foxtrot: CF: Cluster fuck FUBAR: Fucked up beyond all recognition BOHICA: Bend Over, here it comes again |
I would recommend the Repeater LP instead.
|
I hardly take anything you write seriously,
yet another tosser most likely, but in case you are on the level, it's cool you play banjo. A friend plays banjo, here a couple of pictures of one of his paintings: ![]() ![]() |

It's Absent Without Official Leave. Look it up. |
HAHA. Funny thread. It'd be even funnier if you were serious.
|
Regarding the real fugazi: "The Argument" is a GREAT album. Double drums and all. The rest of their shit is pretty hit or miss. I think "13 Songs", for example, is terrible. But I really love the "Furniture" single.
|
i duno, i love all of fugazis records, i thought they were pretty fucking consistent
|
Read first post.

I thought this was a serious thread at first...
scary thought. Fugazi are one of my favourite bands of all-time. So fucking solid, and thye just got better with every album. |

Fucking great album. |
Those posts about Instrument got me thinking and remembering. At the risk of pissing someone off for bragging or whatever or provoking thoughts that I think I'm better than someone else, I was at the world premiere of Instrument. Ian was incredibly nice and did a Q&A thing afterwards for as long if not longer than the movie. I'm not bragging, just something cool that happened. Some people may remember me writing about it before and think I'm pathetic.
|
fugazi was probably the greatest punk band of my era (sadly, black flag was before my time).

I am hyper-jealous. |

That's awesome. I saw the Evens last year in this old hall with lampshades as the only lighting and couches on stage etc. It was great. I spoke to Ian after the show, as did many other people, and he was extremely nice and was joking around the whole time. He was a super nice guy. |
It says a lot when performers are that nice and absolutely open and relatable. People say Steve is like that. And Lee and, to an extent Thurston, and to maybe a slightly lesser extent, Kim, are all really nice, or so it's been related to me. During that Q&A I kept thinking he was going to wrap it up, but it went on around an hour and a half. He literally stayed until no one had any more questions. I didn't ask any. Was about to, but then didn't. I've asked questions before at film Q&As though.

At The Risk Of Getting Shot Down By Mackayes Militia, I Think Fugazi Are Hit And Miss. I Like Half Of In On The Killtaker, Some Of Repeater And Half Of The Arguement. I Dont Get The Deal, And I Never Will.....
The Evens Are A Far Better Act! |
lavenders green, diddle diddle!
classic. |

Why do you capitalise the first letter of every word? |
i think he wrote it all in capitals at first.
|
I was at an Evens show a few years ago. Ian's a cool guy.
I like FUGAZI way way way more. Although I only heard the Evens first album. What I find really odd is that there is this big post-hardcore movement in Western PA and everyone sounds like FUGAZI but nobody listens to FUGAZI. They all seem to think At the Drive In invented this shit. |
I'm not sure if I'd consider Fugazi and ATD-I to have a similar sound though.

WAIT SO IF WE WRITE EVERYTHING IN CAPITOLS IT CHANGES IT? FUCKIN OATH! EDIT: No, it does not. EDIT2: Yes it does. |
Yes It Does.
|
^^^ I wrote all that in caps.
I think you can't make a whole post in caps... like... I'm going to try to write in all caps now.. let's see if it works.. FUCK FUCK FUCK SHIT. |
^^^ I think since you quoted me, it counted as "lower case letters in the post".
|
Oh Yeah I Thought Of That But Didnt Think It'd Matter. Spose It Did.

The Evens are alright, but there is not even a comparison between the two. |

yeah the evens are good, but they are no fugazi. i'm listening to red medicine right now. |
Sweet Devo sig.
|
im probably the only person on this board who ACTUALLY hates fugazi and all that they stand for and thinks ian mackaye is a douchebag
|

thanks. i actually have that devo action figure. |

Let me explain myself: Portishead and Massive Attack - Every song is the same boring beat with some good singing but ultimately is sleep enducing. Lemonheads - Annoying echoey vocals and stupid songs JAMC - The band I consider the most overrated ever. Songs full of white noise and drums that sound like they were recorded in some steel grand canyon. Let's see how this goes down. |
well i like all of those bands so whatever. i don't think fugazi are boring, i just feel a seething hatred toward them and ian mackaye and their politics and their followers.
|

i like some portishead. never been a fan of massive attack. lemonheads just suck. i have to disagree on the jesus and mary chain. fugazi are better than all those four bands combined though. |
