finding nobody 05.15.2006 03:23 PM

origins of your username

i came up with this name while reading "portrait of a killer: jack the ripper"
and the book was talking about how he was a master of disguise. and one of the names he went by as an alias was mr. nemo. he went by this because nemo translates to nobody in latin.
so i was thinking about the movie "finding nemo" and how ironic it was that nemo means nobody. thus the name finding nobody was born

screamingskull 05.15.2006 03:28 PM

do you think the makers of finding nemo called it that for a reason?, or do you think they just liked the name nemo?

im screamingskull because when i first joined in april 2005 it was my favourite sonic youth song. i played it over and over and over again, i liked that the lemonheads are mentioned in it because they were one of my favourite bands too. i didn't really think through my name properly as it didn't seem that important. and i didn't want to change it on the old board because i would have to start all over again at 0 posts.
and i though if i changed it when the new board arrived it would be confusing for people who i talked to regulary.

there is a screaming skull registered on this board too. lucky for me he/she hardly ever posts.

Glice 05.15.2006 03:29 PM

I like ambiguous words without specific definitions that sound nice; phonic similarities to other words offer a evocation not present to pre-defined words.

Strangely enough, I was going to post this thread today, but thought better of it.

golden child 05.15.2006 03:32 PM

i was thurstonmoore for a time on the old board, and then like a year and a half ago when i was a stuck up, cocky 14 year old kid. atari was bitching and was like "who do you think you are, a golden child?"

so i changed my name to golden child

I think of parasites when I see Glice's name.

In that case, I would've chosen "Nil."

i wouldn't really be suprised if the makers named the movie that for the actual meaning. disney is fucked up. 'finding nobody' kind of funny and sad at the same time

!@#$%! 05.15.2006 03:44 PM

nomadicfollower 05.15.2006 03:46 PM

After reading Into the Wild, I wanted to be a nomad, but I wouldn't know how, so I would become a follower.

FruitLoop 05.15.2006 03:53 PM

Mine comes from my earlier days as a candy raver, making collars out of fruit loops and threads before going to raves. I miss being a kid sometimes....

I don't like it, but

The Nation of Ulysses - Plays Pretty for Baby

Hip Priest 05.15.2006 04:01 PM

Mine's a neo-masonic term derived from Prusso-Latvian rhyming slang, and refelects my interest in pineapples and medieval milk churns.

ZING! There, wasn't that a non-fun and short-lived game? Predictably, you must whore your ass around to other people before giving it to Truncated's (Prince-loving and therefore mighty fine) ass.

Everyneurotic 05.15.2006 04:09 PM

the every part of my username comes because i am not a person but a mass of energy and gas that's all present and all seeing, and i can be everywhere and with everyone. and neurotic is because you are all fucked up.

i can't believe no person here has ever read "20,000 leagues under the sea" nor heard of captain nemo.

but anyway...

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.15.2006 04:15 PM

My first username was Tapeworm Donor, because the first band I tried to make was going to be the tapewords.

Then my email I registered with expired and it wouldn't let me log in on the old board, and the change email wasn't working, stupid fullerene.

So then I was Julian is Dead, referring to the Bauhaus song Bela Lugosi's Dead.

When the new board started, the username I was going by on other chats and BBs was SpectralJulian, because The Spectral Presence is my band's name. So I added isnotdead as a self parody of my old board name. There are no spaces either because it would be too many characters.

Trace paper fly onward
Trace paper fly onward
Wake, city's too high
City's too high-up

Kill us your scumbag youths
Kill us your scumbag youths
Youths

Johnny winter
Johnny winter no-show
B.B. King just turns on

The New Hampshire boys
Steve and Joe
They're gonna lead on
They're doin' it for life
On my body got who has
Decimitated gone with that ?
With one hypertonic
We'll lead on
Lead on

no matter how little I pay attention to the lyrics in that song, I'd always notice the johnny winter no show bit , dunno why
