Agreed. Although I did see the MYT tour, and have all of their pre-MYT singles, and if you were in front of me and they'd all died prior to making Rock Action, I'd stab you to little bitty pieces. |
I don't think they did more harm than good. They made some great records and then lost it, that's all. And this one record in particular is still blindingly ace to this day.
|
Young team is brilliant, but i wonder what it would mean when they say "remastered". Alot of albums i bought having been "remastered" sound precisely the same, i tend to think that most of the time people cant be arsed. However Young Team has a particularly muddy sound on its more Rock-y songs so maybe theyll actually do something to make it sound different.
|
young team is their best record by a mile. a real good band, not a great one, a real good one
|
I still love Mogwai. The problem with their latest output I've simply solved by just not listening to it. First 3 albums + EP6 still fucking rule though.
|
the only mogwai alblum i love.
|
the only difference i can tell in remastered albums is that the volume is alot louder. i'm feel kinda dumb cuz i love mogwai... and i mean all their stuff!
|
well, they've done more harm since they have inspired every no talent emo band with the slightest artistic aspirations (or arrogance) to play generic instrumental music.
i like rock action, young team is cool, but i much rather listen to mono. |
If this is reasonably priced, I might invest.
I have really mixed feelings towards mogwai; they're predictable and overly dramatic elevator music, at least on mr. beast, but they're pretty good at that kind of stuff. I'm not too familiar with the early stuff. the mail should bring me CODY within a few days. |
I was nattering about MYT today. My conclusion was that if MYT was released today, when the Wire is talking about Sunn and doom and stoner stuff, it'd get a much more favourable review. Not that the Wire means anything, but still - this record is much closer to stoner than the post-rock it was compared to at the time.
What an ineffective and superfluous post. Well done Glice. |
As usual, ha?
|
My friend thinks CODY is their best album by far, so I had expectations regarding it. Well, Now I heard it and I must say I've heard boring albums that are less boring than this one, but it's not as boring as rock action, which is the definition of boring.
Mogwhy's that? |
back in the day i used to love mogwai, then rock action came out and then i saw them live (for the second time) during the happy songs for happy people tour, and i never listened to them again. i think the early singles and 4 satin EP are the best stuff.

i forgot all about this one, "stereo dee" is an amazing song. |

In my opinion Ten rapid and Young team are far better than CODY. |
The first time that I saw Mogwai was on the most recent tour, and I was distinctly underwhelmed. I was waiting to be knocked off my feet by the sheer intensity of what was coming off the stage, but it never happened. I thought at the time that maybe the venue had imposed some kind of a decibel limit on them, but in retrospect, I think that maybe they just aren't all that they're cracked up to be.
|
did anyone get this?
I've my usual "uh, how will the remastered tracks sound" dilemma, coz I kinda love the original "not perfect" sound of them. And bonus tracks?kewl?awful? thanks. |
Yeah, the 4LP box landed on my doorstep on the day of release :)
The remastering is pretty sweet - you can hear the difference straight away in the spoken intro to "Yes I Am A Long Way...", the quiet parts are a touch cleaner and the loud parts still kick your head in. The bonus studio tracks aren't exactly essential, but the one otherwise-unreleased one is nice, even if it doesn't really go anywhere. The live recordings are all fantastic though, even if the one for Katrien is taken from a audience tape rather than a soundboard. |
thanks for the infos! sounds like a money-worth reissue...might snatch a double cd version (boooh me!) next week...
