favorite guy picciotto/brendan canty band
i voted for one last wish because they're the underdog in this poll.
guy wasn't in deadline but all of them were good friends so it was almost like he was in the band. |
I find Happy Go Licky to be the most interesting, though I've never really listened to Deadline or Insurrection.
I can't think of any other band that sounds like Happy Go Licky. |
I didn't find Happy Go Licky that fantastic... and I mean... Fufuckinggazi... come on.
The only real contender against Fugazi, I'd say, is Rites of Spring, and even that is kind of a harsh battle. |

deadline were a great hardcore band. insurrection were nothing to write home about. happy go licky are amazing. i was listening to them before i put on one last wish. |
I love Fugazi, but the mysteriousness of Happy Go Licky and the moodiness and texture of their music makes them more interesting to me.

Some guy posted a videotaped HGL show on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDrWU0YCg_8 The sounds that they illicit out of their instruments baffles me. |

I'm really digging this song, anyway. |

they never had an actual album. will play was just a bunch of live shows and two practice tracks. i'm surprised hgl don't get more talk around here. they were a noise band. maybe it's cause they came from a hardcore background. |

people here don't like noise. anyhoo, rites of spring for me because, frankly, i haven't heard any of the brenguy bands besides rites, fugazi and deadline (which is a stretch, really). |
rites of spring. took hardcore and made something more meaningful of it. then fugazi just for sheer consistencey and longevity, not to mention they also took a hardcore background and infused it with dub soundscapes to create a sound never heard before. the others, while some underrated, just dont have a body of work big enough to compare.
|
Repeater is one of the best, if not the best, album of the 1990s.

i think that and red medicine are their best. |
Fugazi. Then Rites of Spring.
|

I'm not sure why. I bet a lot of people here don't have their album. I've been meaning to upload it. I think a lot of people here would dig it. |
you can order it from dischord for 10 bucks.
they just reissued the rites of spring 7 inch. i already have it but some people may be interested. |
Fugazi are easily in the top 5 bands I've ever seen live.....just the best.
|
fugazi are the best band i have seen live. no other band comes close to them.
|
You collect the Fugazi Live Series, uhler? I think I have them all but maybe 2 or 3.
|
i have them all on my other computer (now my brother's). maybe i should buy them, but i always find something else to buy instead.
|
Yeah, most of them have been Soulseeked by me too.....I pick them up when I find them used though.
|
are you going to see joe lally? his solo stuff is pretty good, but i don't know if i want to drive to orlando or gville to see him.
|
I haven't really thought about.....I still haven't heard "Nothing Is Underrated" yet.
|
i actually haven't heard it either. i have his first cd. my mom called it the worst thing she have ever heard, but i enjoy it.

True. That's how I got my copy. I love the art on the back :D |
Rites of Spring
|
Quote:
what does it look like? i have an old copy of the 7 inch and it just has a picture of them on the back. my next tattoo is going to be the cover of the rites of spring record. |
or are you talking about the hgl cd? if you are the artwork on the back is really awesome.
|
Yeah I'm talking about the HGL CD.
|
Quote:
yeah most people here seem like they don't like hardcore either. |
Quote:
Jealous!!! I never got the chance to see them live. |
Quote:
I hear Big Black. |
Quote:
Not that HGL aren't aggressive or anything, but there's a pretty big difference to my ears. |
No two things are identical.
|
Quote:
that's the first time i heard that. i find them similar only because the noise factor. |
I'd say Big Black is probably the closest sounding band to Happy Go Licky. But I wouldn't say they sound alike.
|
i like how their songs sound different everytime they played them live.
i'm not surprised most people picked fugazi. i would've picked them too if i didn't feel bad for one last wish. one last wish is a great band though. i recommend them to fans of any of those bands that are in the poll. |
Quote:
Exactly. |
Quote:
that's too bad. there's this guy on youtube that put up a lot of fugazi videos that he taped. check them out. he also put up the only one last wish video on youtube and the only rites of spring live videos. |
