Philip Seymour Hoffman
so?
|
ambivalent
|
Shit yeah. If there was ever going to be a movie about my life, I'd want him to play me.
|
yeah, he's good. I used to hate him, but he's grown on me as an actor.
|
loved him as lester, loved him as brant.
he's a good actor. |
yissez
|
capote, bitches
|
I'd like to add that I'm still mad Capote lost best picture to Crash.
|
capote wasn't a best picture-- it had its flaws-- at times even was a bit dull
but the acting was FUCKING SUPERB. crash was a better movie, as a whole. BUT-- from that year, i liked "a history of violence" or "broken flowers" the best. sure, not the greatest film from either cronenberg or jim jarmusch, but both wonderful. then there was "the squid and the whale", and woody allen's return to form with "match point" (cool fucking movie really). i fell asleep with brokeback mountain. :( in general though 2005 was a sucky year for american movies. |
the squid and the whale is one of my favorites, my BF recomended it to me, and I loved it.
|
yeh the squid and the whale is great
such a simple story but so interesting philip seymour hoffman was great as Jacks lover in Titanic |
He sure is one creepy mother fucker, isn't he? He seriously scares the shit out of me. Didn't he play that perverted dude in Happiness? Wasn't that him? I know he's the dude in 25th Hour who's a pervert. He looks like a demented Drew Carey. Fuck it.
|
yeah he was in 25th hour and happiness
i really disliked crash. they even ripped the title from Cronenberg. AHOV shouldve won. |
Quote:
well not exactly. cronenberg took the title from a j.g. ballard book upon which he based his movie. |
i'm probably the only one who thought history of violence was quite underwhelming.
the wife in schoolgirl uniform and angry sex scenes notwithstanding. |
Quote:
well yeah movies can steal from books... but movies can't steal from other movies!! |
I just really, really didn't like Crash and thought Capote was better in just about every way. I haven't seen AHOV or Brokeback Mountain yet, but I intend to.
I hated crash because the dialogue was god-awful and the message was so dumbed down. They tried to make it seem like no one had ever said racism was bad before. Basically, I think it only one best picture because Brokeback Mountain was too controversial. |
yeh i thought crash was a load of shit as well
the msg in that film is so overdone |
The message in Crash was that Racism is not onlu in the south, like most people tend to believe. That also it is in city, where it is supposed to be more liberal.
|
A History of Violence was good but probably the worst Cronenberg film..
|
Quote:
yes, but below-par cronenberg still beats paul haggis at the top of his game |
yes=11
no=0 |
one of the finest character actors in the world today. a good friend of mine is being directed by him this year at the sydney theatre company....
|
i picked no, so he wouldn't get a hundred percent, but he's a good actor.

Agreed. Most of the characters seemed more like unrealistic charicatures. Not much subtlety or gray area. Still, I enjoyed the movie. And yes, Philip Seymour Hoffman is awesome! |

lapd? |

LAPD, they are funny men and women. |
that was the silence of the lambs prequel i believe
|
that did NOT occur to us, dude.
fucking great as brant and as lester bangs. |
Quote:
read my first post in this thread. brant: they called about 40 minutes ago, they gave us instructions on where to go, one person only -they were very clear on that- what happened to your jaw? dude: nothing uh... brant: here's the briefcase, the cellphone...her life is in your hands dude: no...don't say that. brant: he told me to specifically tell you --her life is in your hands, dude. |
hahaha brant
i'll suck your cock for $1000. brant can't watch though, or he has to pay $100. |
his forced laughter after that is priceless.
