LIARS

I always stayed away from them because they were described as dance punk, but I am really digging their stuff now.

Rob Instigator 02.19.2008 01:22 PM

saw them live, opening up for boring ass Interpol, did not find them too interesting.
don;t know if they were sick of touring with boring ass interpol, or if they just suck ass live.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 02.19.2008 01:30 PM

I don't know. I bet touring with Interpol would bore the hell out of anyone.

Rob Instigator 02.19.2008 01:34 PM

very true.

"dance punk" just means that it is danceable music (has a beat) that is made by punk ass mo-fo's instead of yr usual club kids, and with instruments and not stupid ass synths.

uhler 02.19.2008 02:32 PM

i liked their one ep from year back. i haven't litened to them in awhile.

Trasher02 02.19.2008 03:00 PM

Saw them live once, it was quite enjoyable.

gmku 02.19.2008 07:38 PM

I love their recent LP, the self-titled one. I like Drum's Not Dead, too. Yeah, interesting group.

batreleaser 02.19.2008 09:07 PM

their self titled alblum was a total bitch move in my opinion, drums not dead and they were wrong so we drowned were both very cool, different, and weird fucking alblums for any band, especially a band that started as a gang of 4 rip off group. but the new one is just bullshit, not interesting in the slightest.

gmku 02.19.2008 10:56 PM

Really? I think it's pretty good.

Just my opinion, though.

no i know thats fine. i mean its not totally bad sounding, its just liars are known for fucking with their sound completley alblum to alblum, and the reason i hate the new one so much is because its just a straight up indie rock n roll record. i loved the last two for being so weird and fucked up, and this was just a safe move me thinks. i still got faith though, im waitin on the next one...

davenotdead 02.20.2008 12:26 AM

bat. tjats why it was weird for them. because it was an album that was more straight-forward. no shame in that. its nowhere near as good as DND, but it wasn't because of the direction they went with it

i knoe i knoe thats what all the journalists said, but still, theres nothing interesting or weird about making a boring record, or a weird band making a normal record, or a normal band making a normal dull record. i mean i just hate it, the minute i put it in my cd player (well the second song, the first one is pretty good), i was absolutlety bullshit i didnt listen to some of the track first.

Everyneurotic 02.20.2008 01:24 AM

ok band.

atsonicpark 02.20.2008 01:58 AM

Their first couple of EP's are awful. Especially the one that's just a bleeping effect and them yelling nonsense over a kraut rock beat every single song (I think that's the one recorded right after the talented members left). Their self-titled album was almost like.. nothing. Just.. nothing. "Drums Not Dead" is really, really cool, but it's not something you'd want to put on very often. "They Were Wrong so We Drowned" is about half a good album. Interesting production though! Reminds me of Kill Me Tomorrow in a way...

Honestly, when I first heard "trench" about 5 1/2-6 years ago, it blew my mind. Thinking about it now, that is probably their best album, "dance punk" or not. It's a shame that the core talent in that band left!!

To me, they are an interesting band but also very very inconsistent, especially in the art of song structure. To put it simply, they cannot write a song. Their songs have no flow. That's why I think "Drum's Not Dead" is good; it didn't NEED to have flow, because it was drum exercises and effects-heavy excursions into near-ambient sub-sonic dark tribal depths while still retaining the weird Liars-rant vocal style.. they weren't trying to write "songs" persé. Don't get me wrong, they're okay, but they seem like they're capable of something AMAZING and have yet to accomplish it.

Still a fan, though, and will check out anything they do. I'm curious about the album they never released (if anyone knows what I'm talking about).. they recorded a whole album sometime.. I think between the first 2 albums.. and it never came out. It's a shame, because one of their songs that was recorded for the Peel show was amazing. Track that down if you can. It's one of their best songs.. it goes "everyone's to blame but me, just past the creep salloon the drunken cowboy plays the basoon, no one's to blame but me, everyone's to blame but me" or something like that. Amazing song. I haven't heard it in 4 or 5 years but it's really good.

FUCKING A FUCKING A FUCKING A

JUST CAME BACK FROM THEIR SHOW

they were fucking amazing, better than what i saw almost 4 year ago when they opened for the youf.

got damn im spent

PAULYBEE2656 02.20.2008 08:43 AM

liars are one of the most intresting bands to come out in a while, why? because they have no definate structure or sound but its unmistakingly liars...
trench is a good album but it speaks volumes that the band never play it anymore live..
drowned is excellent, just dark and really clausterphobic....
drum is a work of aural art, their finest yet
liars is a brave move that has found a new fan base, its still edgy but yet nice to the ear, a kind of headbutt by strawberry shortcake..... whilst wearing earmuffs.....

live they are totally excellent, a noisy cabaret..............

the other interesting acts.... coughs and the unavoidable battles.....

jimbrim 02.20.2008 10:10 AM

Bought the self titled one last year, was'nt too impressed, a few good tracks though.

Everyneurotic 02.20.2008 11:32 AM

You pretty much echo my opinion of this bands career trajectory.

atsonicpark 02.20.2008 05:12 PM

Yeah, that's it. I do kinda enjoy that song that goes "DIE LIKE HER, PEE LIKE A GIRL" or whatever but it just seems so empty..
