Let's talk about how great the Art Ensemble of Chicago is!
|

|

You wont regret it when you do. |
i was supposed to get some of their stuff on a trade, but that fell through; time to download!
|
I've only heard 'certain blacks'. I don't remember much of it, but how does it compare to their other stuff?

Is 'Certain Blacks' one of the ones on the BYG label? I don't think I have that, but all those late 60's & early 70's recordings represent what the Art Ensemble is about pretty well. |
Someone recommend me some. I've heard bits and found it fairly astonishing, but I've not seen anything for less than £40-odd.

Jeezus! What kind of ass backwards country do you live in? The BYG/Get Back/4 Men with Beards reissue things are pretty easy to come by. Some of their early material was released in large quantities on Atlantic (Bap-tizum and Fanfare for the Warriors) and should be easily obtainable for not so much money. |

Mmm, it's an original edition in Mint in a market jazz stall, and I've seen nothing else. I could always trawl the internet, but I do intend eating this month, and online shopping always puts a stop to that. |

I've sent a link to their collaboration with Brigitte Fontaine to Everyneurotic that is wonderful. I will pm you some of their stuff from home, time permitting. They are everything that I like about a group of musicians, so effortlessly talented and in command of their instruments, most others pale in comparison. |

you got that right, i think it's great at least on first listen. |
theyre grrrrrrrreat! says tony the tiger.
and anyone who knows good avant garde jazz. |
Their record with Brigitte Fontaine, Comme a La Radio is absolutely brilliant. Highly reccomended.
|
As before stated a truly underrated and somewhat overlooked group.
|
I only have Comme a La Radio and Les Stances a Sophie, which are both wonderful. I should really get more.
|
|
Great Music!
|
i bring them up all the time, truly inspirational band. "baptizum"

(would be much obliged to get that link as well) thanks |

i saw them only once, before Lester died but he was too ill to perform unfortunately and they got another horn player as a stand-in. incredible show all the same. |
i saw them just after malachi favors died, they had a younger dude playing in his place
|
I hate when old threads of mine are bumped. I can't stand to read my own writing.
Enthusiasm expressed as bullshit. From now on I only communicate in pictures and youtube links. http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=perVFD...eature=related http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=7rBLfcj7sYs |

yes, i find it weird when people want to save old threads to reread them, or when they closed down the old board loads of people wanted to archive it. |
