pbradley 02.24.2008 07:23 PM

Well at least they're getting out of their basements and getting some sun.

But as for this:

Catholicism: $0? Think again.

don't forget their headquarters in sunny downtown clearwater. i used to live in the clearwater area (i still live about 30 minutes away) and every time i would go to the beach i would see bus loads of people dressed the same go into their headquarters.

Something like that, although it'll be the many parts voltron rather than the 5 cat voltron.

I was criticizing the idea that Catholicism never profited off the congregation. I didn't mean for it to be a criticism of contemporary Catholicism.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 08:25 PM

Catholicism is historically one of the most corrupt religions ever.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 09:37 PM

i grew up catholic and we never gave a dirty cent though, except for the mass on sundays when they pass the basket and you throw in a couple of small bills.

and all things considered my catholic school tuition was a good bang for the buck.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 09:44 PM

if i wouldve been raised by my dad i wouldve been raised catholic

I want to go to the Headquarters in here in L.A. and join. But I am not rich enough so nevermind.

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2008 10:56 PM

Scientology is the scammiest of all scams. Bout time it dissapeared off the face of the earth, eh?

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 10:57 PM

it's amazing that they could actually create a religion (a cult more like) from SCIENCE FICTION.

✌➬ 02.24.2008 10:58 PM

We should do one based on Sonic Youth.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 10:59 PM

lord no. please.

Everyneurotic 02.24.2008 10:59 PM

it's interesting to me that, having so many slaughters and genocides going on around the world by so many creeds, scientology is the only pseudoreligion that people are trying to take down, when all it is is rich famous people talking about aliens and shit.

Because people hate celebrities. And the others are too strong already. They want to nip this one in the bud. However, I think it is late for that.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 11:02 PM

honestly yeah you're right. i don't really give a fuck. i think they're crazy. they probably think i'm crazy. it's all good.

...whose author once claimed that religion would be a good way to make money

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 11:04 PM

well he's right. i mean that's not what it's supposed to be for. but if you can make a buck off something...you know my feelings on that.

Everyneurotic 02.24.2008 11:05 PM

funny we're discussing this on oscar night.

✌➬ 02.24.2008 11:06 PM

Are there any Oscar Scientologist?

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2008 11:07 PM

I don't really think that people like Tom Cruise ACTUALLY believe any of that stuff...

I think they're just getting payed to promote it, so that mindless drones can join up and pay cash to the heads of the cult.

Everyneurotic 02.24.2008 11:11 PM

part of the whole dianetics spiel is that a person can gain power over people by their body language and speech. it's appealing to rich and famous people because they make them think they can gain power. of course, most of what it promotes are half truths and obviously doesn't work, seeing how many people in the world think tom cruise is a douchebag.

✌➬ 02.24.2008 11:12 PM

Tom Cruise is hurting Scientology.

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2008 11:13 PM

I'm wondering then if it's the fame that makes them like that, or is it that exact personality that makes them famous?

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2008 11:15 PM

I'm also curious as to wheather there are Scientology members on this here message board? C'mon, don't be shy.

Cantankerous 02.24.2008 11:15 PM

as i have stated before, i do not subscribe to any religious beliefs.

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2008 11:17 PM

Neither. Would it matter if I went to hell anyway? There'd be loads of my fellow atheists (though I spose they wouldn't be atheists once they got to hell as it would be rather obvious that religion was right)
