Digital Mystikz
Skream (Skreamizm's 1 & 2)
Benga
Marlow
Pinch
Distance
Hatcha
Kode9 and the Spaceape
Burial (first album)

Check out the dubstep comp's on Planet Mu and Soul Jazz record's. Also, the Rinsefm mix cd's are pretty decent.

val-holla-ing 02.28.2008 07:02 PM

thanks jimbrim. i was gonna list all those folks and take charge as the american with the best knowledge of dubstep artists, but now i don't have anyone to list.

just thanks.

jimbrim 02.28.2008 08:18 PM

Sorry val! you could of mentioned Scuba, but now you've missed you're chance.

Are there any american dubstep artists?

ZEROpumpkins 02.29.2008 01:29 AM

Heard Skream on the radio this morning. Brilliant!

Toilet & Bowels 02.29.2008 05:15 AM

joker
chef
n-type

there were some sites that you could download old rinse fm sets from, not sure if they're still up though, will check when not at work. the radio sets are the best things in my opinion, n-type always has hilarious weird chat, and also you can get one off stuff, like when wiley was guest MC on kode9's show

i haven't heard of any, but i wouldn't be surprised if they started popping up.

then again, that'd be like an american grime artist. i don't know if that's possible outside the scope of the uk.

cellscape 02.29.2008 03:29 PM

I do like Pinch.

al shabbray 02.29.2008 03:44 PM

I agree...
skream
benga
distance
and of course buril are my favourites.

Beautiful Plateau 02.14.2009 02:19 AM

What's the best reviewed dubstep record, besides Burial's full lengths?

davenotdead 02.14.2009 02:55 AM

Quarta330 does 'gameboy dubstep'. its hot. 8-bit/chiptunes/whatever with dub inclinations.

uhler 02.14.2009 03:02 AM

what the hell is dubstep?

Derek 02.14.2009 06:13 AM

Personally I've always thought dubstep wasn't really worth the praise.

this is true for EVERY "genre" in music. Artists in each "genre" may be worth the praise, though.

demonrail666 02.14.2009 08:55 AM

Skream are about the only ones i tend to listen to consistently.

Skream's 'Skreamizm' series gained a lot of praise and popularity over the years, so they're probably a good introduction to the genre.

I've been listening to Goth-Trad a lot recently.

lol, some of the biggest tunes ever made are by american artists like matty g for example, not to mention how many killers have come from sweden and finland

as far as american grime, of course it can't really exist because grime is a ripoff of american genres hiphop and garage, and dubstep is a sub genre of garage...and garage started in new york and chicago, so what i'm getting at basically is that the ukcentric attitude is ridiculous and you clearly haven't been following the scene because there's been plenty of non uk artists making hits for years

nicfit 02.14.2009 05:28 PM

and the second full length by burial is lame. hah.
And even if it's not dubstep Robert Logan's Cognessence is great.

ZEROpumpkins 02.14.2009 10:27 PM

Oh man, this thread is oldddd

StevOK 02.22.2009 03:38 PM

Could somebody, like, upload a mix of their favorites? I don't believe I've ever actually listened to any dubstep.

Glice 06.06.2009 12:18 PM

Dubstep mixes from the radio. Big up my Bristolian bredrin.

Glice 06.06.2009 12:18 PM

Although I'm not actually from Bristol. But don't let that get in the way.

Don't even need the drugs. I don't drink / drug / whatever, but count on me being at the Magnet bar for dub step night dancing like an idiot with indian businessmen every Saturday night (except tonight because I have work to do).

jimbrim 06.06.2009 12:53 PM

Cheers Glice, that was great. I always had the impression Joker was from London...obviously not.

As were on the topic here's my mates tunes, I'm sure some you here will like them- http://www.myspace.com/pricedub 'Slut' is lush!

this spelling mistake still hurts my eyes

Better_Than_Deux 06.07.2009 01:43 PM

i didn't even notice that til now.

ZEROpumpkins 06.10.2009 08:07 AM

I'd also like to point out that without drugs, most of the artists you listen to wouldn't be making music, Danny.

I'm not advocating drug use in any way, nor do I see it as an essential part of the creative process, but it is undoubtable that it influences many artists.

EDIT: It also ruins some, of course :)

I don't think that without drugs they wouldn't be making music. Thats a bit of a stupid statement. You either have creativity in you, or you don't, drugs have nothing to do with it.

ZEROpumpkins 06.11.2009 01:48 AM

What would cypress be rapping about in their songs if it weren't for weed?

Bal 06.11.2009 04:41 AM

they'd be rapping about the fucking pope, man

btw, i just discovered Harmonic 313 and I'm quite enjoying it. Apparently it's dubstep, so I might go further in that style - I have quite ignored it so far. So thanks to all the posters in this thread for reccomendations.
